Owerri Ex-Chairmen Oppose NBA Conference

As members of the Nigerian Bar Association began the conduct of this
year's Annual General Conference on Sunday, the past chairmen of the
zone, under the aegis of the Committee of Past Chairmen, Nigerian Bar
Association, Owerri Branch, have said it may be ill-advised for the
zone to continue with the meeting, in view of the danger Ebola
presents.

In its writing,"NBA Annual General Conference in Owerri, Aug. 24 to
29, 2014 And the Ravaging Ebola Epidemics in Nigeria", the committee
said events of the few days before the conference showed that what
matters most in life is life, and that the committee would support
such.

In a letter signed by the Chairman, Chief N.B.E. Nwigwu, and
Secretary, Ama Akalonu, the group said while the whole world is
searching for remedies to end the malaise, the most reasonable thing
for the people to do is to call off any meeting that may not add to
the solution protégé.

The statement said, "We are all witnesses to the scourge of Ebola
disease in our country, Nigeria, and the Government's efforts to
combat it and prevent its spread... The schools are to remain shut, mass
public gatherings are discouraged and movement of sick people and
corpses are discouraged.

"In view of this grave situation, we the chairmen of this branch, in
our meeting on August 20, 2014, join the call for the postponement of
the said conference in line with the government efforts to spread the
virus."
