The 18th edition of Nigeria Polytechnic Games Association, has been
scheduled to commence at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State
with about 10,000 contingents and participants.
The event is scheduled to take place between November 5 and 15, 2014.
It will be recalled that Lagos State Polytechnic, emerged as overall
winner of the 17th edition hosted by Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun
State with just 3,000 athletes.
The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Bida who is also President of
"NIPOGA 2014", Abdullahi Sule, told journalists during the N500m fund
raising and unveiling of the mascot of the game that the institution
was ready to break records with not less than 10,000 athletes.
According to him, no effort would be spared in making sure that all
athletes from the various Polytechnic compete on brand new
ultra-modern facilities in Bida.
Sule said, "NIPOGA is a bi-annual sporting fiesta that involves
participants and contingents drawn from all Polytechnics and Colleges
of Technology in Nigeria to converge at a host institution to compete
and win laurels in a various games and athletics events.
"The essence of this game among very numerous gains is to give teeming
youths in our tertiary institutions avenue to cool off from lecture
room activities and participate in sporting events. It is obvious that
this event is a catching avenue for promising sports men and women for
national teams.
"Also, NIPOGA is poised to capitalize on sports to take off the minds
of our youths from activities detrimental to national development as
well avenue for fostering unity among nations and nationalities. It is
expected that Bida Polytechnic will host over 10,000 contingents at
this year's edition tagged: NIPOGA BIDA- 2014 come November 5 to 15
2014."
He therefore called on the federal Government, Niger State government,
corporate organisations and other well-meaning Nigerians to come to
the aid of the institution to host the most successful games ever.
