Imo Police Command Remembers Families Of Late Police Officers

Reprieve has come for families of police men and officers who died in
the line of duty, as the Imo State Police Command has remembered
widows by setting up small scale businesses as well as given
scholarships to their children who couldn't further their education
since the demise of their father.

During an empowerment programme at the Police headquarters in Owerri,
Imo State capital, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abdulmajid
Ali, said the gesture was part of the programme lined up to assist
families of late police officers in the command, especially the ones
that died in the line of duty.

He further disclosed that the initiative was made possible with the
partnership of the Police Officers' Wives' Association (POWA) in the
State.

The widows received sewing machines, grinding machine, food stuffs,
generating sets, all running into millions of naira to help them start
up small scale businesses.

While addressing the gathering on the aim of the programme, the State
Commissioner of Police, Mr Abdulmajid Ali said the programme was aimed
at remembering families of late police officers and appreciating the
families by giving them a sense of belonging.

He also disclosed that the command would give scholarship to one of
the siblings of a late police officer who couldn't further his
education after gaining admission into the university on merit.

Some beneficiaries commended the Imo State Police Command for the kind
gesture, noting that it will remain a remarkable day in their lives
and hoped it goes a long way to alleviate sufferings by the families
of late police officers.
