The police in Asaba, Delta State, say they have arrested a 21-year-old
lady during an initiation rite of a cult group.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu,
said on Tuesday that the lady, Chioma Akuchi, and one Francis Vincent
with nine other people, were arrested at Umuadike Quarter, off
Asaba-Ibusa Road, by a police patrol team.
Kalu said, "Weapons recovered from the suspects include one
cut-to-size locally-made pistol, one live cartridge and one battle
axe.
The PPRO said the suspects were being investigated and would be
charged to court if indicted.
In a related development, the police spokesman said three people had
been arrested for robbery.
She said, "On Sunday, one Achaja Stanley, a student of Niger Delta Oil
and Gas Technical Skills Acquisition Centre, reported at Otu-Jeremi
Police Station that one Samuel Agoko, Samuel Peter and Lawrence Adjoma
shot him on his chest and robbed him of N20, 000.
"The police arrested the three suspects and they confessed to the crime.
"The victim is responding to treatment."
