Arsenal and Barcelona agree Vermaelen deal

Arsenal and Barcelona have agreed a fee for Thomas Vermaelen.

The Belgium has seen his playing time limited last season due to the
formidable Per Mertesacker and Laurient Koscienly axis, coupled with
unfortunate injuries.

Arsene Wenger while speaking to the press ahead of the community
shield clash against Manchester City revealed that the club would only
sell the 26-year old to a team abroad.

Manchester United decision not to part ways with Chris Smailling
further affected their chance to lure Vermaelen to Old Trafford.

Arsenal wanted cash plus Smalling for their defender, but it appears
Louis van Gaal is not interested in such a move.

Vermaelen is expected to undergo a medical on Saturday.
