"Dog Owners Will See Their Dogs Again In 'Paradise' --Pope Francis

Pope Francis has been quoted saying all dogs go to heaven. His words
of comfort to a young boy grieving for his dead dog have given hope to
animal lovers seeking a spot in heaven for their dogs. UPIreport:

The pontiff spoke to the boy during a recent appearance on St. Peter's
Square in Vatican City and the Roman Catholic leader's words have been
cited by some as a confirmation of a 1989 animated movie's title:All
Dogs Go to Heaven.

"One day, we will see our animals again in the eternity of Christ.
Paradise is open to all of God's creatures," the pope was quoted as
telling the boy.

The statement seems to contradict a 2008 sermon by Francis'
predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, in which he said the death of an
animal means nothing more than "the end of existence on earth."

Pope John Paul II said in 1990 that animals have souls and are "as
near to God as men are."

Christine Gutleben, senior director of faith outreach at the Humane
Society of the United States, said Pope Francis' statements have
stirred excitement among animal lovers.

Explosion Hits Akure

The citizens of Akure last night experienced one of the worst
explosion to ever hit the ancient city.

The explosion was initially thought to have been the work of insurgent
group Boko Haram but sources have revealed that it was an explosion at
a gas station located along the Arakale Road area of the city.

Many are feared dead after the fire spread to cars and other part of
the station.

According to witnesses scores of people are said to have been injured
in the Ondo state capital.

Fire Service men were said to have been too slow to stop the fire and
then protesting residents were seen pelting them with stones and other
objects.

Soldiers from a nearby brigade had however come to the rescue of the
Fire men and allowed them to do their jobs.

As of the time of the report, the exact number of dead is yet to be ascertained.

Though Witnesses say the number is on the high scale.

One Wemino Akinkunmi said that the gas explosion started in his
presence and lamented the late arrival of the Fire Servicemen, which
according to him led to the fire engulfing the whole area.

Man United 3-0 Liverpool: De Gea Frustrates Reds As Rooney, Mata, RVP Score

Clinical Manchester United increased the pressure on Liverpool manager
Brendan Rodgers as they capitalised on some poor defending to run out
comfortable victors at Old Trafford.

Rodgers - who dropped struggling goalkeeper Simon Mignolet for Brad
Jones - can point to a succession of brilliant saves from United's
David De Gea and a controversial second goal from Juan Mata as
significant factors in defeat.

This, however, will do little to ease the growing concerns for Rodgers
and Liverpool, with the memory of their thrilling 3-0 win here in
March - in a sequence that almost took them to their first title in 24
years - seeming an age away.

United captain Wayne Rooney gave them an early lead and Liverpool had
every right to feel aggrieved when Mata headed in from a clearly
offside position to take the game away from them just before
half-time.

Even before United took the lead, De Gea made an important save from
Raheem Sterling, denying the England youngster on four occasions as
well as producing three vital contributions to stop Liverpool
substitute Mario Balotelli getting his first Premier League goal for
the club.

Robin van Persie's third for United at the end of a lightning
counter-attack only added to Liverpool's pain and gave the scoreline a
lopsided look given the amount of work done by De Gea.

United's sixth successive league win continued United's resurgence
under manager Louis van Gaal and put Liverpool's decline since they
came so close to winning the Premier League into even sharper relief.
Liverpool now trail third-placed United by 10 points.

Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group, intend to give Rodgers until
the end of the season at least to turn matters around given the credit
he still has after last season, but after a miserable Champions League
campaign was confirmed by their exit at the group stage following the
midweek draw with Basel, these are crucial days for the northern
Irishman.

He now faces a huge seven days with a Capital One Cup quarter-final at
Championship leaders Bournemouth on Wednesday before Arsenal visit
Anfield next weekend.

The reshuffled team sent out at Old Trafford by Rodgers gave Liverpool

It was a demoralising blow for Liverpool who, having had to replace
Glen Johnson with Kolo Toure in the first half after he suffered a
groin injury, replaced Adam Lallana with Balotelli at the restart.

early in the second half.

Michael Carrick, who had been immaculate, inexplicably allowed Jonny

Nigerian Tissue Seller In Spain Returns EURO 16,000 He Found In Briefcase

A Nigerian tissue seller is being praised in Spain as a good Samaritan
after he returned 16 thousand Euros he found in a briefcase that fell
from a car.

35 year old Peter Angelina, who makes a living selling tissue paper at
a traffic light junction at the corner of Calle Juan Diaz de Solis and
Ruben Dario in Seville, Spain, was selling his wares on Dec. 3rd when
he noticed a small briefcase left on the roof of a car. The briefcase
fell to the ground when the driver of the car pulled away. Peter
picked up the briefcase and ran after the vehicle, trying to flag the
driver down to return the case to him but couldn't get the attention
of the driver. He then took the briefcase to a police station near the
junction.

When police opened the briefcase, they found EURO 3,150 in cash and six
cheques with a combined value of EURO 13,000 as well as some documents and
a mobile telephone. More money than the man who left Lagos Nigeria for
London, then Spain over 10 years had ever seen in his life.

According to Euronews, Spanish Police tracked down the owner of the
briefcase, a 42-year-old businessman from Seville, and returned his
belongings. The man later found Peter and rewarded him with EURO 100.

"People say I could have kept the money and then thrown the briefcase
away but I am not like that, and God wouldn't have liked that. I am
not crazy, I am a good man." Peter later told local media
Turns out Peter Angelina is a doctor, but cannot practice medicine in
Spain because his diploma from Lagos University is be recognized
there. He started studying medicine in Seville five years ago and
sells tissues to afford his studies. He also gets a little financial
help from his father who reportedly works in the police force in
Nigeria.

Popular OAP, Matse Admits Using Food To Trap Her Husband

Matse Uwatse-Nnoli who got married to her Nigerian/German husband in a
recent interview revealed how she met him and how the handsome dude
fell for her recipe.

"It wasn't my food that initially drew my husband to me but it was
what made him appreciate me more. He initially liked me as a woman and
enjoyed our intellectual banters before partaking in my culinary
delights. My cooking sealed the deal though.

Before radio, cooking was and is my first love. I started cooking as a
teenager. Baking all sorts of things in my mum's kitchen and trying

"Life away from radio has been peaceful. I guess I needed being off
radio to revaluate my life. It made me closer to my husband and

the fast paced life I was used to, I slowed down a bit and this has
been great.

It showed me other hidden talents that I had not explored. Now, apart
from being a media personality, I am now an entrepreneur, a food

Female Saudi Fan Red-Carded For Entering Men-Only Stadium

A female fan who disguised herself to infiltrate the male-only domain
of a football stadium in Saudi Arabia has been red-carded, a police
statement obtained on Sunday says.

Men and women are strictly segregated in the kingdom, and football
stadiums are out of bounds to women.

But one female supporter managed to sneak into a Friday fixture of the
Abdul Latif Jameel Saudi professional league at Al-Jawhara stadium in
the Red Sea city of Jeddah.

She wore men's clothes "and deliberately covered her head so as not to
be detected by security and not to draw attention," police spokesman
Atti al-Qurashi said in the statement.

A video posted on YouTube purported to show her sitting by herself
among some empty seats in a section reserved for fans of the visiting
Al-Shabab club from the capital Riyadh.

A man nearby appears to be looking intently at the woman who sported
glasses and black attire. She seemed to be wearing a large hat with a
scarf in Al-Shabab's black and white colours for the match against
Jeddah's Al-Ittihad.

Qurashi said the presence of the woman, who bought her ticket online,
was "against the regulations".

He did not elaborate on whether she would face any charges but said
her case "has been forwarded to the specialised authorities."

He also "confirmed the need to comply with the instructions and
regulations issued by the official authorities with regard to this
matter."

Yaba Tech Wins 2014 NIPOGA

The Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, has emerged the overall winners
of the 18th Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA), tagged BIDA 2014, held
at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida.

The college won 34 medals, made up of 17 gold, eight silver and nine bronze.

The second position went to The Polytechnic Ibadan, with 14 gold, five
silver and 11 bronze.

Abia State polytechnic Aba, took the 3rd position with 11 gold, four
silver and seven bronze.

Out of the 42 polytechnics that took part, 29 got medals while 13 did
not secure any medal.

Gov Okorocha Is Destroying The Traditional institution --Eze Ilomuanya

EzeIkechukwu Ilomuanya, the Obi of Obingwa Owerri, Imo State, and a
delegate to thedefunct National Conference, here speaks on Igbo
presidency, governance in Imo and some other issues in the polity.
Excerpts:

What is your position on the statement by Ohanaeze Ndigbo that lack of
unity among Igbo leaders is anathema to the quest for Igbo presidency.

Ohanaeze's view is justified due to lack of unity among the leadership
in Igbo land. If, for instance, we say we want to lobby for an Igbo
president, you will find millions of Ndigbo vying for the position.
Moreover, we have not found a serious presidential contender including
the so-called Rochas Okorocha.

But this is not the first time Okorocha is showing interest.
Eze Ilomuanya

What record has he got to contest for the office of the president? He
has no record to vie for such a high office. This is one person who
cannot rule a state successfully! Have you not heard about his
activities in Imo State? He does not obey the rule of law and has no
respect for anybody. Is such an individual fit to be the president of
a big country like Nigeria? Let us be serious about the ideal person
for president, not a person who cannot obey the constitution of the
country he swore to uphold. We, Igbo, are not serious about the
contest for the presidency. If we find a formidable Igbo aspirant, we
will surely support the person.

What are the royal fathers doing about this?

We are not politicians, all we do is give fatherly advice and
blessings to our people on the subject. We are part of Ohanaeze. In
due course, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo will take a position and royalty will
support them by giving our blessing to it. The blessing will guide
them. Ohanaeze, being the umbrella body of our people and traditions,
is the highest body in Igbo land that takes a position on such
matters.

What is your stand on Muslim/Muslim, Christian/Christian presidential
ticket, a speculation many believe will put our democracy in jeopardy?

To me, religion means nothing when it comes to governance. What
Nigerians are interested in is effective leadership that will take us
to the promised land, not political deceit employed by selfish
politicians.

Do you see President Jonathan displaying effective leadership if re-elected?

Goodluck Jonathan is in the league of great Nigerian leaders that ever
emerged in this generation. The policies and projects he embarked on,
like roads, seaports, even airports, are comparable to any in the
Western world. Electricity has improved when compared to how it used
to be. I remember during the former President Olusegun Obasanjo's
tenure, electricity supply was very poor. Some areas stayed for more
than five months without electricity. People ran on generators
everyday. President Jonathan has performed creditably well. All we
need is to give him is another chance come 2015 rather than
antagonising him for nothing. People should stop witch-hunting him and
start discussing issues. Being partisan and insulting the position of
the president, being a symbol of authority of this country, is an
insult to Nigeria. If you had observed President Jonathan, he has not
commented on anybody's attack on him. This to me is a trait of a good
leader. He has the power at his disposal to hunt his critics but he
chooses not to. That is a president that is going somewhere.

How do you react to former President Olusegun Obasanjo's comments,
condemning Jonathan's administration as condoning corruption and his
handling of the lingering insurgency?

President Obasanjo, being an elder statesman, we have respect for him.
During his tenure, for eight years, we gave him our support. He has
done his own bit to the best of his ability. While in office, why
didn't he wipe out insurgency? If he has any issue, it would have been
honourable for him to sit with Jonathan as a member of the National
Council of State, than casting aspersions on the president on the
pages of newspapers. After all, he handed over jointly to Umaru
Yar'Adua and Jonathan.

Some economists have predicted the fall in crude oil price as the
beginning of the fall of Nigeria's economy. How do you react?

The fall in oil price is not peculiar to Nigeria. It is a global
phenomenon, and, recently, President Jonathan, under the Ministry of
Trade and Commerce, addressed top 100 companies in Nigeria, both in
manufacturing and agriculture, encouraging them on the efforts by the
Federal Government to support their productivity by discouraging
importation to a large extent. Nigerians should give President
Jonathan a chance. The Finance Minister said recently that there was
no cause for alarm, that our economy is doing well....
