product management for the overall privacy team, died this morning of
a head injury after a 7.9 magnitude earthquaketriggered an avalanche
on Mount Everest.

An experienced climber, Fredinburg co-founded in his spare time Google
Adventure, a company team that "translate[d] the Google Street View

Ondo Govt. Bans Production, Consumption Of `Ogogoro`

>Photo: GOVERNOR Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state

The Ondo Government has banned the production and consumption of
locally-made gin, commonly called `ogogoro` in the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Akinyanju, announced this
at a news conference in Akure on Saturday.

The commissioner attributed the ban to the outbreak of an unknown
disease two weeks ago in Irele Local Government Area of the state.

"Our clinical analysis reveals the fact that there were no known
viruses, while toxicology reports have confirmed our prime suspicion
of methanol poisoning.

"We have reviewed our strategies and embarked on sensitisation to let
people know that locally-made gin is prohibited.

"We will also embark on searches because this batch of
methanol-containing gin must have gone round because 4 cases: 2 alive
and 2 dead have been found in Odigbo Local Government Area," he said.

Akinyanju said that stakeholders such as religious leaders,
transporters, youths, market women, and the relevant association would
be informed of the development.

He said, "We will start with the entire South Senatorial District,
then move to the Central Senatorial District.

According to the commissioner, the unknown disease has so far claimed
23 lives with ten other people receiving treatment.

"Two of them have regained their sights and are back home.

"We appeal to the general public to desist from drinking the gin until
we are able to identify the source of contamination or find out how
the methanol got into the drinks," he said.

The commissioner said that the state government was working closely
with the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control and
the National Orientation Agency to sensitise members of the public to
the dangers of consuming such drinks.

while counting commenced immediately while it ended in most other
places around 5 p.m.

The election has been characterised by violence and other electoral
malpractice, especially in Oru East local government.

The election is holding in some polling units in 23 local government
areas which were cancelled or inconclusive in the April 11 election.

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Marshall
Anyanwu, complained that there were too many unaccredited observers at
the election, especially in Omuma, Oru East local government.

observers, were all over the place in contravention of the electoral
law.

Five ad hoc officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission
in Imo State were on Saturday arrested for thumb-printing ballot
papers in the governorship rerun in the state.

The officials were arrested at Omuma Primary School in Oru East local
government area following an order by Mr Mike Igini, one of the
Resident Electoral commissioners deployed in Imo for the election.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo, Dr Gabriel Ada, who
confirmed the arrest, said the officials were already in police

to thumb-print ballot papers leading to their arrest.

In the same vein, the election has been cancelled in Ozuh Primary
School, Omuma following the arrest of 25 persons claiming to be INEC
officials by military men.

The arrested persons and the election materials in their possession

Abia State Concludes Re-run Election Except In Umunneochi LGA

Voting in several Local Government Areas in the governorship re-run
election in Abia State has been concluded except in Umunneochi Local
Government Area.

Accreditation and voting did not take place at Umunneochi Local
Government Area because the Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC) erroneously scheduled election there, which was not supposed to
take place in the first instance because the Form, EC40G, was not
filled which indicated that there was no problem in the area.

At some of the places visited, which include: Umuola at Aba, the
commercial city, the turnout was massive and the voters expressed
enthusiasm to cast their votes while the party agents commended the
peaceful conduct of the election. In some areas, however, the turnout
was low.

Channels Television correspondent in Abia State reports that the
supplementary governorship election in Abia State took place under
peaceful and calm atmosphere.

There was a huge presence of security officials to checkmate any
lapses while vehicular movement were partially restricted at places
that election was scheduled to take place.

At Ubakala, voting ended by 3:00pm. The electorates and party agents
were hanging around for the votes to be counted while the unused
ballots were cancelled by the INEC ad-hoc staff to avoid being
tampered with.

Meanwhile, voters and residents also waited at the polling units to
ensure that the votes are counted in their presence.

The electoral officials in the state are already sorting and counting
votes cast in Ugwunagbo, Osisioma, Aba North and Aba South polling
units.

Army Detains 10 Policemen Over Refusal To Join B'Haram War

>Photo: Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase

Ten policemen who were trained in counter-insurgency and
counter-terrorism in Belarus, are being detained in a military
facility at Gwagwalada, Abuja.

A detainee, who spoke with one of our correspondents on the condition
of anonymity on Thursday, said that the 10 policemen were detained on
April 20, 2015 for demanding explanation from the Army authorities on
the procedure for their conscription into the Army.

The policemen were expected to be drafted to Borno State for the
ongoing campaign against Boko Haram.

Investigations revealed that the affected policemen were among 96
policemen, who were taken for training in counter-terrorism,
counter-insurgency, handling of rocket propelled grenades, and machine
guns among others in the eastern European country.

In all, the 96 policemen, who were mostly rank and file, were trained
in three batches in Belarus in response to a memo from the office of
the National Security Adviser for the selection of policemen for the
three-month special security training.

It was learnt that the last batch of 32 police trainees, who departed
the country for Belarus in September arrived Nigeria in December and
were kept at the Nigerian Army Forward Operational Base for four
months.

The source said that the police delegation became worried because the
Force headquarters did not send any officer to debrief them while the
SSS contingent who were trained alongside the cops, were dispatched to
their various offices across the country.

It was gathered that the fears of the policemen were confirmed on
April 20, when soldiers drove six luxury buses and a military truck
loaded with Army kits to the base and ordered the policemen to enter
the buses for a journey to Jaji for further training.

An Army colonel, who briefed the policemen, reportedly told them that
they were going to be converted into the Army and then trained for
additional three week in Jaji for onward movement to Borno State to
participate in the ongoing onslaught against the Boko Haram.

It was further gathered that some of the policemen demanded to be
briefed by senior police officers on the seeming conversion as they
had not been briefed since they arrived the country from the foreign
training exercise.

The source said that the policemen were also not hinted on the plan
while they were in Belarus.

Investigation further revealed that the Army Officer, who was assigned
the duty to move the policemen to Jaji then asked those unwilling to
go to Jaji to step aside and ten of the policemen did.

The colonel, it was learnt, directed that the ten policemen be taken
to the Force headquarters Abuja in a military bus but were diverted by
a Captain to Kuje. They were later taken to Gwagwalada where they are
being detained.

The source said, "Sometimes around September, last year, the NSA
released a signal to the Force Headquarters to release policemen for
training in Belarus. The training involved the Army, the Air Force,
the Navy, the SSS and the Police.

"We went for training on counter training, body guards, snipers, RPG,
Machine gun operations and others.

"Immediately we returned from the course, the SSS were asked to go but
the three batches of policemen totalling 96 were asked to remain at
the Forward Operation Base. We completed the programme in December. We
as policemen were given passes to meet our family for a week or two
weeks and to return to the base.

"When we returned, nobody from the police came to address us; the NSA
did not come to address us. Instead, two colonels from the Army came
to tell us that they were still waiting for instructions and that they
did not know what they wanted to use us for.

"We were there till April 20, when six Marcopolo luxury came into the
premises with an Army truck loaded with Army kits. A colonel said that
we were to go to jaji for three weeks training for movement to
Maiduguri. All the 96 policemen are affected. The highest ranking
policemen among us are inspectors.

"When he requested for questions, some of the policemen now called his
attention to the fact that they are not soldiers but policemen and
they insisted that the police authorities must know where they are
taking them to."

"We were kitted in Belarus military uniform. The officer then asked us
to dress with the Army uniform and some of us said no, we are not
soldiers, we are policemen.

"We did that because we needed to be sure and thoroughly briefed by
our superiors from Force headquarters of the new development which
nobody did. We also did not want the police authorities to deny us and
deprive our families in case anything goes wrong.

Suleiman Hashimu, Lagos To Abuja Trekker Meets Buhari

More excitement filled the air around the presidential campaign
headquarters of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Abuja late
Friday evening as Mr. Suleiman Hashimu, the Lagos to Abuja trekker
finally met with the president-elect, General Mohammadu Buhari.

Suleiman Hashimu, Lagos to Abuja trekker meets President-Elect in Abuja

Hashimu had made a personal promise in 2013 that should Buhari contest
and win the 2015 presidential elections, he would trek from Lagos to
Abuja.

Having won the March 28 elections, Hashimu was forced to fulfill his
promise and on Monday, April 20, 2015, he arrived Abuja from Lagos
amid a cacophony of excitements and surprises.

Giving details of his journey to the President- Elect, the trekker
said he passed through Kwara to Niger and then to Abuja.

Though his story may sound incredible, Hashimu said he didn't care
about what people would say of him, stressing that what mattered to
him was the fulfillment of his promise to God and himself.

He said: "I made a promise because of the love I have for Mr.
President that if Buhari should win the 2015 elections, I will trek
from Lagos to Abuja which I have done. I thank God that I made a
promise and I fulfilled the promise.

"I passed through Kwara and Niger states to Abuja. I was trekking from
6.00am to 6.00pm and anywhere I find myself when it is 6.00pm, I pass
the night there.I spent 18 days from Lagos to Abuja.

"Once I found myself inside the bush by 6.00pm and I managed to
continue the trek till 9.00pm to a nearby village.

"I made this promise two years ago. I am based in Ibadan and I started
my journey from Lagos because Lagos is the most popular city in
Nigeria and I started from Berger junction in Lagos.

"I am not bothered about what people think. It is a promise between me
and my God. I don't want anybody to believe me. I left Lagos because I
made a promise. Right from Kwara state, I never walked alone for five
kilometres. People always walk with me to the next village. I work
with a construction company based in Ibadan."

Speaking at the event, Buhari congratulated Hashimu and thanked God
that his health did not fail him.

"I want to congratulate you for making it. He is a young man and he
was lucky that his health did not fail him. I also heard so many
stories that you wore almost half a dozen pair of shoes. I also
understand that there are people who have been quite generous to help
you to pay for pair of shoes", Buhari said.

Police Recover Guns, Ammunition Inside Secondary School Ceiling In Kogi

Kogi State Police Command said it has recovered some arms and
ammunition from a secondary school, in Adavi Local Government area of
the State.

The State Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi who disclosed
this to newsmen yesterday while briefing on the effort of the command
in the past months said the guns and other weapons were hidden inside
the ceiling of one of the classrooms of the secondary school.

He said the police were able to recover the weapons after a tip-off
from an informant who revealed that some hoodlums have been visiting
the school for a while and planing to foment trouble during the last
election in the State.

Ogunjemilusi revealed that the police were stunned to find out that
two AK47 rifles, 4000 rou0nds of live ammunition, cutlasses, charms
and other dangerous weapon were hidden inside classroom ceiling.

The command also paraded 30 suspects who were arrested for different
offences of kidnapping, armed-robbery, culpable homicide amidst other
crimes.

He stated that the command also recovered three stolen vehicles, three
AK 47 rifles, six locally made pistols, cartridges, IED explosives and
detonators, cutlasses, ammunition, charms from the suspects as well as
the rescue of seven kidnapped victims.

The Die Is Cast In Imo

"Inconclusive result", is not a new phrase in Imo political
phraseology having first reared it's head in 2011, when the incumbent
governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, wrestled the governorship seat away
from Chief Ikedi Ohakim. Not minding that Ohakim had some comfortable
lead, Okorocha eventually was returned as governor after that round of
supplementary election.

History is now repeating itself as Okorocha now flying the ticket of
the All Progressives Congress, APC is pitched in battle against the
challenge of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Chief Emeka
Ihedioha.

INEC GIVES REASONS

The supplementary election according to the State Returning Officer,
SRO, Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, stemmed from the cancellation of
144,715 votes in various polling booths in about 23 local government
areas.

Professor Ibidapo-Obe also cited various complaints of irregularities
that emanated from several polling booths across the 305 wards of the
state as part of the reasons for declaring the election inconclusive.

According to the SRO, it was only in four out of the 27 local council
areas of the state, where there would be no elections again.

The four are Owerri Municipal, Ideato South, Ideato North and Ahiazu Mbaise.

After announcing results submitted to him, the SRO, however, said: "I
shall not do any declaration. We have various cancellations in various
units and wards. The affected polling units in the local governments
totaled 144,715. The margin of lead that we calculated from the two
leading parties is 79,529, and because of this figure, this election
is inconclusive".

The APC candidate, Okorocha was in the lead with Ihedioha trailing him
with the 79,529 votes.

ALL PARTIES RIGGED

The elections according to multiple sources were rigged by all the
major parties in the election.

There was an allegation that one of the contenders surreptitiously got
the list of the INEC ad-hoc staff, invited them to a particular spot
and gave those who responded to the candidate's invitation, varying
sums of money.

Another intriguing malpractice was that the total votes cast in some
polling units remained the same, but the name of the winner changed
dramatically. It took the eagle-eyed party agent of the "losing"
candidate to spot the anomaly who eventually caused a reversal.

There were also reported cases of ballot box snatching, intimidation,
violence, failed card reader machines, exchange of varying sums of
cash and food at the polling units - electoral offences, whose
perpetrators were neither arrested nor sanctioned by the security
agents drafted to the areas.

APGA DENOUNCE RESULTS

In its reaction, the leadership of the All Progressives Grand
Alliance, APGA, not only rejected the results already released by INEC
but also demanded a fresh election.

According to the State APGA Chairman, Barrister Peter Ezeobi, the
elections were characterized by ballot box snatching, intimidation and
other electoral crimes.

"This election is the worst that has been held in the country. It was
marred by arrest of our party agents," Ezeobi said.

OKOROCHA WILL FIGHT

The incumbency factor may again stand in favour of Okorocha. He is
most likely going to use his appointees and supporters to do one of
two things. He will either get them to work on the electorate or
carefully cause serious confusion that would make INEC cancel votes
from such disturbed areas. Where this happens, he will still coast
home with his over 70,000 votes in his favour and INEC will have no
other option than to declare him the winner.

Already, Okorocha and the APC leadership are accusing the Resident
Electoral Commissioner, REC, Dr. Gabriel Adah, of not only being a
card carrying member of the PDP, sent to do Ihedioha's hatchet job in
Imo, but have consistently called on the INEC Chairman, Professor
Attahiru Jega to remove him.

Whichever way the contest is looked at, and not minding that it may be
a herculean task for the PDP to erase the huge poll deficit, it will
definitely be battle royale between Okorocha, Ihedioha and their
respective parties. The truth, however, is that this is going to be
last segment of the contest for the plum seat, and somebody must
emerge at the end of the day.

Sunshine Stars Woos Fans To Stadium With Drinks, Umbrellas

Attendance at the Akure Township Stadium for the Match Day 4 fixture
between Sunshine Stars and Dolphins reached a new high of 5,125 and
officials of the club have attributed the improved turn-out to a new
drive by the Club's management which embarked on awareness campaign
and introduction of incentives to reward fans.

Ondo State Football Agency's Deputy Director Marketing & Corporate
Affairs, Ayodeji Adegbenro explained in a chat with www.npfl.ng that
the agency embarked on a public awareness drive to get the spectators
to the stadium.

He also disclosed that the chairman of the agency, Hon. Akin
Akinbobola had earlier set up a task force to design and implement
strategies on engaging the community to grow spectatorship on match
days.

On the strategy eventually adopted to achieve the increased turn out
of fans last Sunday, Adegbenro said, "In the week leading to the game,
we had a road show in Akure and neighbouring towns, radio and TV
jingles and also sent out bulk SMS to inform people about the game.

On Match Day itself, we provided some side attractions that kept the
fans entertained before, during and after the game.

The match itself was just a part of the entire event." He said the
incentives introduced by the League Management Company (LMC) to reward
clubs that record attendance of upwards of 5,000 fans in a match
motivated the club to design and implement the plans that led to the
increased attendance.

Adegbenro also explained that "attracting huge crowds to games
increases the brand appeal of the club to existing and potential
sponsors and inspires the players to improved performances on the
pitch. Generally, it creates the right atmosphere for television
broadcast and makes the league attractive to watch by those at home."

On the side attractions, the Sunshine Stars marketing director added,
"the match day experience was fun-filled as we had a Disc Jockey (DJ)
and a dance crew that entertained the crowd. We also held a
promotional raffle draw that saw some of the spectators winning items
such as footballs, club jerseys, Vuvuzelas, free drinks, etc we plan
for this to be a regular feature all through the season.

The idea is to provide an enriching experience for the fans to have a
reason to not only return for subsequent games but also bring along
their friends, relations and business and work colleagues."

He assured fans of "adequate measures to ensure your comfort and
safety during games. We have also made our stadium gender and family
friendly. We intend to do more by creating this carnival-like
atmosphere in all our home games all through the season."

Indonesia Executes Four Nigerians, Six Others For Drug Trafficking

The Indonesian Governmenton Fridaysaid it has concluded plans to
execute four Nigerians and several other drug convictson Saturday.

A foreign embassy official who spoke on condition of anonymity, said
that authorities have ordered preparations for the execution of 10
death-row inmates, including two Australians that have been the
subject of a high-profile campaign for clemency.

The official said some diplomats of the countries of the affected
convicts have been requested to travel to Nusakambangan, the prison
island off Java where the inmates are to be executed.

Meanwhile, spokesman for the Attorney General's office, Tony Spontana,
confirmed that a letter, issuedon Thursdayby a deputy attorney
general, told prosecutors to "prepare for and carry out the
executions.

He noted that the letter is not a notification to the convicts. He
said convicts are typically notified of their executions three days in
advance.

He added that the 10 inmates would all be executed at the same time.

He said the ten (10) drug inmates facing execution are four from
Nigeria, and one each from Australia, France, Brazil, The Phillipines,
Ghana and Indonesia.

Spontana said one convict, Martin Aderson, first identified by
officials as Ghanaian, was actually from Nigeria.

He also said the Attorney General's office was awaiting a verdict,
dueFriday, on a case review request filed by the Indonesian convict,
Zainal Abidin.

It will be recalled that the Australian government had repeatedly
asked for clemency on behalf of its nationals Andrew Chan and Myuran
Sukumaran.

However, Indonesia's Attorney General, Mr. H.M Prasetyo, had also
insisted the executions will be carried out in accordance with the law
and were "not something pleasing or fun.

Meanwhile, the European Union has criticised Indonesia's plans to
execute the convicts, saying the death penalty was not a solution to
the country's growing drug problem.

A French citizen, Serge Atlaoui, was among the inmates facing the firing squad.

Federica Mogherini, EU Foreign Policy Chief, said the rejections in
Indonesia of retrials, including in the case of a French citizen,
bring closer the regrettable prospect of further executions.

The governments of the Philippines, France and Brazil have also
appealed to Indonesian President Joko Widodo, to show mercy and spare
their respective citizens.

In this wise, relatives, families and diplomats have continued to
scramble to visit several foreign drug convicts on death row in
Indonesia as authorities have made final preparations to execute them
despite appeals from international communities.

Consular officials have been advised to go to Nusakambangan, the high
security prison island where executions are to be carried out.

Ten convicts from Australia, France, Brazil, The Phillipines, Nigeria,
Ghana and Indonesia are being held on the Island awaiting execution as
they all lost their appeals for Presidential pardon.

NigeriaDecides2015: Anxiety In Abia, Imo, Taraba As Supplementary Election Holds Today

Tension mounts in Abia, Imo and Taraba states as the fate of
Governorship candidate are determined in the supplementary elections
today.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had declared the
April 11 elections in the three states inconclusive due to
irregularities observed during the election which led to cancellation
of votes in some constituencies.

In Abia, the contest is between Okezie Ikpeazu of the PDP and Alex
Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA; In Imo state, the
re-run is between Governor Rochas Okorocha of the APC, and Emeka
Ihedioha of the PDP; Taraba state also has Aisha Jummai Alhassan of
the APC and Darius Ishaku of the PDP as contestants.

In Abia State, INEC said elections would be conducted in some polling
stations in nine local government areas with combined registered
voters of 179,224.

It will hold in selected polling units in Aba North and South,
Osisioma, Ugwunagbo, Umuahia North, Isiala Ngwa North, Obingwa, Ohafia
and Ikwuano.

In Imo state, the governorship poll was declared inconclusive,
following the cancellation of results in more than 250 polling units
in 23 of the 27 local government areas.

The state constituencies affected in the re-run include Ikeduru,
Isiala Mbano, Isu, Oguta, Owerri West, and Oru East.

INEC ordered the re-run election because of the 79,000 difference
between the votes scored by the leading and the second candidates.

In Taraba State, the cancelled votes were higher than the margin of winning.

INEC declared the governorship election inconclusive, saying the
number of cancelled votes totaling 127,125 were more than the 54,812
margin between the PDP candidate who polled 317,198 and the APC
candidate with 262,386 votes.

INEC Returning Officer in Taraba. Nigerian constitution and the
Electoral Act states that if the difference between the cancelled
votes was higher than the margin between the first and the second
person, elections should be declared inconclusive and a run off held.

The runoff election will be held in the whole of 165 polling units in
Donga Local Government Area and some polling units in Bali, Karim
Lamido, Takum, Ussa, Wukari, Yorro and Zing.

For the elections, INEC has insisted on the strict use of card readers
for accreditation and the permanent voter cards for the election.

Much of the focus is on Imo state, where APC candidate Rochas Okorocha
is being pushed hard by the PDP's Emeka Ihedioha.

Results of the supplementary elections are expected to come in after
collation, thereafter, winners will be announced.

Nigerian Troops Flee Sambisa After Boko Haram's Hidden Landmines Kill JTF

The Cable reports that Nigerian soldiers are retreating from Sambisa
after three civilian JTF members were killed by a landmine set by the
Boko Haram members.

This is just a day after the offensive against the terrorists began.

"The soldiers have retreated to Bama because of mines," a soldier told
Reuters. "They had been on the road but that made them vulnerable, so
they moved to the bush but there are mines planted there (too)."

Mike Omeri had said: "right now, all Boko Haram camps, except Sambisa
Forest, have been destroyed.

"Every movement of the terrorists is being monitored and every
necessary detail is being taken care of to rid the country of the last
bastion of terrorists' infestation."

BIZARRE LAW: Men In Saudi Arabia Can Eat Their Wives If Suffering Severe Hunger

Men in Saudi Arabia are allowed to eat their wives but only if they
are extremely hungry.
Saudi Arabian grand *mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah allegedly
issued the guidelines to allow a husband to eat his wife's body parts
in extreme circumstances. The cleric is reported to have said the
ruling represents the "sacrifice of women and obedience to her
husband" causing outrage of human rights campaigners.

A statement reportedly from the cleric's office said: "A fatwa
attributed to the Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah,
which allows a man to eat his wife or parts of her body if the husband
was afflicted with a severe hunger, raised concern and debate over
social media since yesterday evening. The fatwa is interpreted as
evidence of the sacrifice of women and obedience to her husband and
her desire for the two to become one."

The controversial Muslim leader has previously called on all churches
to be destroyed under Islamic law. But his latest declaration is yet
to appear on his official website and no confirmation of its
legitimacy has been made. Religious authorities denied he made such
claims adding that this statement was fabricated.

"These ill thoughts cannot come from any Muslim, regardless of a great
scholar who Muslims refer to from around the world," Khalid ben
Abdel-Rahman El-Shaye, assistant secretary general of the Global
Commission for Introducing the Messenger, affiliating to the Muslim
World League, said.

*A Mufti is a Muslim legal expert who is empowered to give rulings on
religious matters.

3 New REC And National Commissioners Deployed To Imo

Three new resident electoral commissioners and equal number of
national commissioners have been deployed to Imo State for the re-run
election scheduled to hold on Saturday, April 25, 2015.

The Imo State resident electoral commissioner, Dr. Gabriel Adah,
disclosed this to newsmen, yesterday, in Owerri.

He said that the commission has distributed 113,803 permanent voters
cards to voters in the affected areas slated for the supplementary
election.

He insisted that the election would be conducted with the strict use
of card readers in the affected areas. He said that on the day of the
election there would be no movement of people in all parts of the
state.

My Life Is In Danger --Abia REC

Aba city has been in coarse since the election result was announced
inconclusive. Coffins almost in every corner of the city with threat
to the mass to vote for a particular candidate or lose your life. The
gubernatorial race is between All Progressive Grand Alliance ,Dr.
Allex Otti and Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu..

In an interview with Punch, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in
charge of Abia State, Professor Selina Oko, has alleged her life is
being threatened...

Are you under any threat from any quarters?

Yes, I have been getting calls threatening my life. I have been
getting text messages about how they will shoot me through the window
of my car.

Have you reported the threats to the security agencies?

Yes, I have. I told them that my life is being threatened.

The governorship candidate of the PDP,Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, alleged that
his All Progressive Grand Alliance counterpart, Dr. Allex Otti,
induced you with a whopping N300 million?

Tell him to produce evidence. Since he even knows the amount, it means
he has evidence. So, let him produce it. And he should know that when
you know of a crime and you don't report it you are also committing a
crime. He is committing a crime for not reporting it to the police. He
is supposed to report to the police and not to level wild allegation
in the media. He is supposed to report it to law enforcement officers
and he has not done so. So he is committing a crime.

He also alleged that you are Otti's aunt. Is that true?

He is a liar. He does not know me. I did not know Otti until I came to
Abia. I think Otti is from Abia. I am from Afikpo in Ebonyi State. He
should go to Afikpo and trace my linage and see whether there is any
link at all between me and Otti. I have never known Otti until this
time. They are cooking up stories just to whip up sentiments. Besides
if I am Otti's aunt why should I then collect N300 million from him?
One of such people whose allegation I read in black and white is the
so-called National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh. He said I
am related to Otti. How can somebody at his level get information and
not bother to verify it? All he did was to rush to the media and put
it in black and white. There is something wrong with him. He is not
fit to be a leader.

They said you are compromised.

Let them produce evidence. You don't just say one is compromised. You
produce evidence to support the allegation.

But has any politician or political party at all attempted to bribe you?

How can you ask me that type of question? You know politicians and
when I answer, they will say tell us the person. Please, don't ask me
that type of question.

How do you feel about all these especially when you are trying to do
your best and nobody seems to be appreciating your efforts?

It is irritating because you bring out your mind to do the work the
way it should be done and people are unnecessarily trying to poison
the minds of the populace. But I will not be deterred. I will still do
what I know is the right thing. The Returning Officer announced that
the election was inconclusive. And it was based on facts. The law says
when the margin of lead between the highest scorer and the runner-up
is smaller than the total number of registered voters in the polling
units where election was not done or results were cancelled, there
should be a rerun.

Recall that out of the 439,454 total votes cast, PDP scored 248,459
while APGA got 165,406 votes. The 83,053 margin of lead is less than
the 175,532 total number of registered voters in the polling units
where election did not hold or results were cancelled. That was why
the exercise was declared inconclusive by the Returning Officer and
the position of the Electoral Act on this is very clear. But PDP has
been claiming that its candidate is leading and we failed to declare
him winner. That is not the truth.

Imo INEC Ad Hoc Workers On The Run

Twelve ad hoc workers of the Independent National Electoral Commission
in Imo State are on the run after disappearing with electoral
materials.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Gabriel Ada, made this
known while briefing newsmen about the rerun election in 23 local
government areas of the state, which is coming up on Saturday on April
25, 2015.

The workers disappeared with electoral materials during the last
elections in the state, according to Ada.

However, he failed to mention the number of INEC ad hoc workers who
were involved in election malpractices but added that the police in
the state were investigating the case.

At the end of police investigation, he explained that those found
guilty would be charge to court.

He warned both INEC staff and ad hoc workers to be very careful and
diligent in the Saturday's supplementary elections in 250 polling
units.

Ada pointed out that the number of votes expected in the 250 polling
units is 148,407 while 113,803 voters collected their Permanent Voters
Cards in the 250 polling units.

He disclosed that each of the polling units would be manned by 10
policemen to check malpractices.

Our Plans For Ndigbo, Others In Lagos APC -- Segun Idris

Hon. Olusegun Abubakar Idris is a chieftain of the All Progressives
Congress, APC and the administrative secretary of the party in the
Lagos West Senatorial District.

In an interview with Vanguard, he spoke on issues arising from the
recent elections in the state and the party's plans to sustain its
dominance.

Read his answers to some of the interview questions in the following excerpts:

In your local government, Amuwo-Odofin LGA, your party APC lost both
the House of Representatives and the state House of Assembly seat.
Also this is the first time a non indigine will be representing the
area. What will you say was responsible for the party's loss in the
area?

There were too many factors responsible for that loss. One of the
factors responsible was the concentration of the people from
South-East and South-South, these people voted for PDP due to their
staunch support for President Goodluck Jonathan which automatically
made them to vote for PDP from beginning till the end. Therefore, they
did not really think of voting elsewhere or another party, they went
on to vote for the PDP because they felt 'our brother is the one going
for the Presidency.'

You have enumerated several factors that made your party APC lose
touch in Amuwo-Odofin. What is your party doing to ensure some of
those problems are addressed before the Local Government elections
will take place?

I know we are going to have local government elections very soon and
before then, we will be having town hall meetings with everybody
including our people from the South-south and South-East to let them
know the reason why they should vote for us. We are also going to also
look into a situation whereby we can bring about a popular candidate
that will represent the party. I know that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu
in his wisdom has always been there to ensure that electoral process
within the party and in the general elections are done without any
form of bias. The internal mechanism of the party must be able to
produce a candidate that will be readily available and that will be
acceptable to the electorate of Amuwo-Odofin.

We are planning to have one on one discussions with everybody in this
local government including the Igbos, they have always been here with
us and they are doing very well with us. We are actually going to talk
to them and am sure they will further tell us what their grievances,
their mind and interest are. The Igbo's have always been here and they
do have positions at the local government level here, even the Hausas
and the South-South people, they have always been here with us in
Amuwo-Odofin.

Abia Re-run: Caskets Litter Aba To Threaten Voters

ABA residents woke up yesterday to meet caskets on some major streets
in the commercial city, with warnings inscribed on them that if the
people failed to vote for an Ngwa governor they would be killed.

This is coming 48 hours to the supplementary elections scheduled by
INEC to decide the inconclusive governorship elections in the state.

The two councils of Aba North and Aba South are part of the areas
where the election will hold tomorrow.

The sight of the coffins and the warning sent fears into the people,
prompting some voters to vow not to come out tomorrow to vote in the
re-run election for fear of their lives.

However, the two major political parties involved in tomorrow's
election, the ruling PDP and APGA, have condemned the act and accused
each other of being behind the evil act.

While PDP candidate in the election, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, dissociated
himself from the dastardly act, his APGA counterpart, Dr. Alex Otti,
described it as "despicable, shameful and barbaric act by desperate
and frustrated politicians."

APGA also blamed it on the PDP which it accused of using the coffins
to discourage its supporters in Aba from coming out to vote in
tomorrow's election.

"The attention of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, the Peoples Democratic Party,
PDP, governorship candidate for Abia State has been drawn to the ugly
incident witnessed in Aba this morning, where caskets are being
dropped at various places in Aba, with a threat that those who will
not vote for Dr.. Ikpeazu and the PDP in the Saturday's supplementary
election will die.

"Dr. Okezie is by this means dissociating himself from such dastardly
act, and also inform Abians and the general public that such is the
handiwork of the opposition who have shown their desperations in
various ways since the beginning of the governorship contest.

Crisis Rocks APC Meeting Over Zoning Of N-Assembly Offices

A meeting of senior members of the All Progressives Congress, APC,
called to resolve issues concerning the zoning of top offices in the
incoming majority party in the National Assembly ended in a deadlock,
Wednesday night.

The meeting came to a deadlock on account of the tussle between
leaders of the North-East and South-West for the office of Speaker of
the House of Representatives.

The leaders at the meeting, nevertheless, agreed on the zoning of the
office of Senate President to the North-Central and the Secretary to
the Government of the Federation, SGF, to the South-East.

Meanwhile, returning members of the House of Representatives were,
yesterday, understood to have forged a consensus on breaking the
deadlock by throwing up two of the returning members as their choice
for speaker and deputy speaker. Sources in the House confided in
Vanguard last night that the returning members have thrown up outgoing
minority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila and Yakubu Dogara for either
speaker or deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.

Among those that attended the meeting on Wednesday night at the Rivers
State Governor's Lodge on Hassan Usman Katsina Street, Asokoro, Abuja
were President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd);
Vice-President-elect, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo; party leader, Asiwaju Bola
Tinubu; governors-elect, senators-elect as well as some executive
officers of the party.

Deadlock over zoning of speakership position

Vanguard gathered that besides reaching a consensus on the Senate
Presidency which it zoned to North-Central, the meeting reached a
deadlock on the issue of the Speaker as both supporters of the zoning
of the office to the North-East and the South-West maintained their
grounds.

A source, who was in the meeting, said the meeting at one stage
degenerated to a hot verbal exchange between the supporters of the two
zones. The development, it was gathered, forced the meeting to mandate
the president-elect and the vice-president-elect to resolve the issue
on a later date.

A senior member of the National Executive Committee, NEC, who was
present at the meeting, however, played down developments at the
meeting as he said what took place was not a formal meeting.

He said: "We have not held our NEC and our NEC is going to resolve all
these issues, so there is no need for anxiety."

Returning Reps members root for Gbajabiamila, Dogara

Meanwhile, returning members elected on the platform of the APC and
the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are said to be urging the APC to
produce either the outgoing minority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila and
Yakubu Dogara for either speaker or deputy speaker of the House of
Representatives.

The members were said to have passed on the message that they would be
comfortable with either of them as speaker and the other as deputy.
Gbajabiamila is from Lagos State while Dogara is from Bauchi State,
the two zones that are in contention for the speaker.

However, speaking to journalists, Senator Ali Ndume, APC, Borno South,
pleaded that the party should consider the North-East in zoning the
position of speaker of the House of Representatives.

He said: "You see, the North-East produced the second largest vote for
APC during the last election and if you are looking for people that
will be consistent for being in opposition all this while, Borno and
Yobe in particular have been consistent in opposition. Now that the
power has shifted from the former majority party, PDP, to the
opposition and we happened to be there, that is one reason.

"Secondly, we are the most devastated in terms of the level of
insurgency and marginalization during this political dispensation.
Thirdly, North-East is among the poorest regions on earth according to
the United Nations Human Development Indices. Because of her natural
position, we will need to be placed in the power kitchen whereby we
will not be lacking.

"Because we were marginalized, we are in a desperate need to ensure
that he who is in the kitchen will never stay hungry. But I told you
that all these are statistics. And lastly in the last election,
North-East produced the second largest votes and then we took over two
states from the PDP -- Bauchi and Adamawa -- and we are hopeful that we
will take over Taraba.

"So, looking at these credentials now, they qualify us to get the
highest possible office that is available. That is our argument but if
the party has other considerations, then we will look at it."

Imo REC Dissociates INEC From Arrested Officials, Says Total Restriction Of Movement To Be Imposed On Rerun Day

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Imo State, Gabriel Ada,
has dissociated himself and the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) from the recent arrest of some INEC officials in the
state.

The 15 officials were allegedly arrested by security operatives for
altering the result sheets of the National Assembly and governorship
elections, to suit the figures that were dubiously allotted to
political parties.

Mr Ada, who confirmed the arrest in an interview with Channels
Television in Owerri the Imo State capital, said the arrested staff
acted on their own volition and not under the directive of the
commission.

He noted that any staff of the commission caught trying to subvert
electoral process would take full responsibility for his actions.

The REC also said the recent arrest of the officials from the
operations and legal department is a clear indication that the
commission does not tolerate or cover up any fraudulent practice by
any of its staff.

He further noted ahead of Saturday's supplementary elections, that the
commission is more prepared to conduct free, fair and credible
elections in the state.

He also maintained that the card reader machine would effectively be
in use, stating that any staff caught not using the card reader would
be dealt with severely.

He also disclosed that there would be total restriction of movement in
the entire state, even though the election is in few areas across the
state.

Meanwhile, the incident had generated much controversy between the two
rivalry political parties in the state, as they have continued to
trade words over the incident accusing each other of colluding with
INEC to alter figures.

It's about 48 hours to the supplementary elections and all eyes are on
INEC and security operatives to ensure free, fair and credible
elections in the state.

of the impeached former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly,
Dr Adewale Omirin and the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers
from November 21, 2014 till date.

These include the purported commencement of impeachment proceeding and
notice alleging misconduct against the State Governor, Mr Ayodele
Fayose and his Deputy, Dr Olusola Eleka.

Justice E. Chukwu gave the ruling on an Exparte Application in Suit

court declaring the seats of the 19 lawmakers vacant having abdicated
their functions since November 21, 2014 and also an order restraining
the police from aiding, abetting or assisting the lawmakers from
carrying out any illegal act.

Apart from Omirin and the APC legislators, also joined as defendants

Olasehinde Kumuyi.

In a letter dated 23 April, 2015, the Chief Judge said "in line with
the provision of section 188 (5) of the Constitution of Federal
Republic Of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I have set up a seven man panel

The lawmakers hinged their decision to impeach the deputy governor
over allegations of gross misconduct, financial misappropriation,
absenteeism from official duties and allegedly causing political
disaffection in the cabinet of the state governor.

The impeachment notice signed by 20 of the 26 lawmakers was announced
by the Speaker, Jumoke Akindele, after the clerk read 7 allegations
against the Deputy Governor.

Reps Reacts For Jonathan's Refusal To Amend Constitution

The House of Representatives has responded to President Goodluck
Jonathan on the reasons he cited for withholding his assent to the
Constitution alteration Bill.

This is coming a day after President Jonathan dragged the National
Assembly to the Supreme Court, asking the apex court to nullify the
proposed amendments.

President Jonathan had argued that not less than four-fifth majority
members of each house of the National Assembly was required to amend
the Constitution and demanded that evidence be made available to show
this was complied with.

Briefing journalists in the National Assembly, the House Minority
Whip, Samson Osagie, said that the four-fifth requirement was met, as
evidenced in the votes and proceedings of July 24, 2013.

Osagie also explained why the National Assembly amended section 58 of
the Constitution which looks at the President's failure to assent to a
bill passed by the National Assembly.

President Jonathan had written to the Senate, refusing to give assent
to some sections of the Nigerian Constitution amended by the National
Assembly.

President Jonathan's letter to the National Assembly detailed the
sections which he refused to approve.

In the letter read by the Senate President, President Jonathan
rejected the alteration of section nine of the Constitution which
removes the approval of the President in the process of constitution
amendment.

President Jonathan also rejected the amendment which separated the
office of the Attorney-General of the Federation from the Minister of
Justice and the Attorney-General from the Commissioner for Justice in
the states of the Federation.

APC Manifesto Is Not Quran Or Bible, Subject To Change --Buhari

The President-elect Gen. Muhammadu Buhari disclosed that the promises
that the All Progressives Congress, APC, made during the nationwide
presidential campaign which were contained in the Party's manifesto
were not words from the Quran or Bible, adding that the pledges are
subject to change.

Buhari who stated this during an interactive session with journalists
on Television Continental, TVC reiterated that the party's manifestos
were subject to modification.

The Buhari-led APC had promised fundamental political reforms and
improvement in governance, more transparency and accountability.

The party also promised to urgently secure the territorial integrity
of the nation. It said it will never leave the defense of the nation
in the hands of hunters, children, and civilian JTF.

The APC presidential candidate had also said that he would ensure that
the Naira was equal to the Dollar in value, if elected president.

During the interview Buhari emphasized that on ministerial
appointment, the party has a great role to play.

"I would ask Nigerian political observers to study our manifesto; it
is not a Bible or Quran which you can't change.

"Our manifesto was made by very experienced Nigerians but it's subject
to modification.

"It took several months to arrive at it, so whatever we said in our
manifesto, people must accept the fact that we have to modify it.

''On my choice for ministerial appointment; my party has a role to
play, but most importantly we need seasoned technocrat, people of
professional and personal integrity.''

In reaction, an advocacy group, Lawyers for Change, has charged the
President-elect to focus on his campaign promises, especially with
regards to recovering the Chibok girls abducted over a year ago.

National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Adesina Ogunlana added that
Buhari must not take Nigerians for granted, but have to live up to his
earlier promise adding that his comments after the general elections
contradicted his promise before the elections.

On President Jonathan calling to concede defeat even before the
announcement of result by Independent National Electoral Commission,
INEC, Buhari stated "What the President did by calling me even before
the announcement by INEC, shows a remarkable statesmanship and that
has stabilized the politics of this country."

PDP Calls For Total Cancellation Of Imo Guber Results

Following alleged monumental election frauds orchestrated by the All
Progressive Congress APC in both the Guber and State assembly
elections with the help of the Independent National Electoral
Commission, INEC in the State before, during and after the 11th April
2015 general election, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Imo State
has called for the total cancelation of the entire result.

Although the electoral Umpire had earlier announced the election
inconclusive due to irregularities in some booths and had also
scheduled the run-off for the 25th of April, but the PDP in a press
briefing yesterday submitted that after critical analysis in what
transpired on the manipulations, rigging, ballot box snatching and
writing of election results with fake result sheets from the North by
the APC, the PDP calls for the total cancellation of the 11th April
election in Imo State.

Some of the facts cited by the chairman Bar Nnamdi Anyaehie include
the use of card readers in Areas of PDP stronghold, the inducement of
INEC officers with money by the APC to write results in their favour,
falsification of results in Ezinihitte Mbaise and Oru East LGAs to up
turning the PDP winning result, which was exposed by the collation
officer, yet the results were accepted by INEC.

Other are writing of results with non customized results sheet, which
party agents are forced to sign under duress, at gun point especially
in Ideato North and South, Oru, Nkwerre, Oru West, Nwangele, Isu,
Mbaitolu Ikeduru LGAs to motion but a few.

The party also accused INEC of inconsistence in reducing the number of
the polling units earlier announced for the re-run few days to the
scheduled run date. PDP wondered if not conspiracy to rig the party
out for INEC it gave Ideato South a clean sheet when there were new
reported cases of electoral violence in Umuobom, Ogboko, Umuchima,
Obioha, Isiekenesi among other Wards, to the electoral body.

It was also disclosed that results of two federal House Seats won by
the PDP and that of the Orlu Senatorial zone are being manipulated to
overturn the victories infavour of the APC by some INEC officials who
are paid by the APC.

Barr Anyaehie, on behalf of the PDP called for the outright
cancellation of the of the results and redeployment of INEC officers
from outside the state to conduct a new and fresh election.

Okorocha's Aide Calls For Arrest Of Imo REC, Says He is PDP Member

The APC in the state through the Senior Special Assistant on Media to
the State Governor, Sam Onwuemeodo has called for the immediate arrest
and prosecution of the Imo Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC). Mr
Onwuemeodo said this yesterday, Wednesday, April 22nd, while
addressing journalists at the Rochas Campaign Organisation along
Okigwe Road, Owerri.

Sam Onwuemeodo told newsmen that their major opponents in the election
in Imo State is the REC, a statement which he alleged has been
confirmed by recent happenings in the state. Mr Onwuemeodo accused
INEC of "working out the winner of the election in the state from the
answer". The Media SA to the governor equally accused INEC in the
state of preparing result sheets for the PDP which he said have been
kept aside, waiting for declaration, stressing that however the people
vote does not in any way matter to APC as well as adding that the PDP
did same in the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Sam Onwuemeodo said the PDP would have done the same in the
Governorship and State House of Assembly elections but for the level
of resistance they met. According to Onwuemeodo, INEC ended up having
results for PDP without supporting results from the polling booths,
adding that there were no forms EC8A, EC8B AND EC8C, which he said APC
begin to petition INEC, requesting that the INEC Chairman should
redeploy the Imo State REC.

Sam Onwuemeodo also accused INEC of procuring ballot papers, forms
EC8A, EC8B and EC8C, which he said the Head of Operations, INEC, and
fifteen other INEC staff were thumb-printing and re-writing results in
the INEC office as it affects some Local Government Areas in the
state. The Media SA told journalists at the Rochas Campaign
Organisation that, on getting the tipoff as good citizens, the APC
alerted the State Security Service, SSS, who he said swung into action
and consequently caught the INEC officials thumb-printing ballot
papers inside INEC office.

According to Mr Onwuemeodo, the results were assiduously fabricated
for Aboh Mbaise, Ezinihitte Mbaise and Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government
Areas, alongside Oru East Local Government Area and many other local
government areas where results were announced for the PDP without the
existence of forms EC8A, EC8B and EC8C. As at the time of filing this
report, the Media SA told newsmen, the victims are in the custody of
the SSS operatives, whom he said are continuing investigations.

Mr Sam Onwuemeodo further stressed that there was no way the Director
of operations in the INEC office would been involved in the
thumb-printing of ballot boxes at the INEC office with the cooperation
of the INEC REC in the state, and therefore demanded that the Resident
Electoral Commissioner in the state be arrested immediately for
investigations and prosecution. The APC in the state through the media
SA equally called for the arrest and prosecution of those who were
arrested on 11th April, 2015 whose homes were converted to Ward
collation centres.

The APC-led government also added that the video of the people in
question and their operations have been handed over to the police as
proof, alleging that all the ballot papers printed were all in favour
of the PDP and none in favour of the APC.

The SA Media to Governor Okorocha told newsmen that the lives of the
APC supporters in the areas slated for election come April 25th are in
jeopardy, while accusing the PDP of bringing in lots of fake
policemen, fake soldiers and militants from the South-South who he
said the PDP had equipped with weapons to annihilate the APC
supporters in areas slated for re-run elections. Mr Onwuemeodo finally
added that the APC is aware of the whole plots and antics of the PDP
poised to rigging the election and thus called on the PDP and their
candidate in the state, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha to emulate the good
example of President Goodluck Jonathan by accepting defeat so as to
save the lives of many innocent citizens.

Guber Rerun Election: 16 INEC Officials Caught Thumb Printing Ballot Papers, As PDP, APC Trade Blames

The contentious Governorship election in Imo State declared
inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,
has continued to generate controversies every passing day.

Just yesterday, officers of the Directorate of State Security
Services, SSS were said to have caught Sixteen (16) officials of INEC
in Imo State doctoring the results kept in the custody of the
commission.

The officers apprehended include the Head of Operations, and some of
the officials of the Commission who handled the April 11, 2015
Governorship election.

Trumpeta learnt through a source at DSS that the INEC officials who
were caught thumb printing Ballot Papers have been whisked to Abuja
where they will face the music.

According to sources, the suspects are now detained in DSS facilities
waiting for further instruction on the INEC officials.

It would be recalled that the re-run Imo Governorship election is now
slated for this Saturday.

However, there have been Babel of voices coming from the APC and PDP
accusing each other of master-minding the riggings and frauds that are
said to have marred the elections.

While the PDP has called for the total cancellation of the election
which should be followed by a fresh poll, the APC wants the State
Electoral Commissioner, Dr Gabriel Ada arrested, for what the party
termed his compromises with the PDP.
