Imo JUSUN Calls Off Three-Month Old Strike

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, Imo State chapter, on
Wednesday announced the suspension of the industrial action it
embarked upon to press for the implementation of the judgment of a
Federal High Court upholding financial autonomy for the judiciary.

Court activities were paralyzed in Imo for about three months until
the nationwide strike, directed by the National Executive Committee of
JUSUN, was called off on Wednesday.

A statement on Wednesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Imo
State Governor Rochas Okorocha, Sam Onwuemeodo, said the workers
suspended the strike following "a serious meeting between the state
government and the union leaders", in the state.

The statement quoted the Chairman of Imo State chapter of JUSUN, Mr.
Aloka Kenneth, to have directed its members in the state to return to
work, stating that the action followed an agreement between the
union's leadership and the state government.

According to Onwuemeodo, Kenneth commended the state governor for
being a part of the deliberations that resulted in the signing of an
agreement between the union and the government.

a principal house, a brand new administration block and new
dormitories.

The school will run on solar power, and a water reservoir will be
built for the new.

We Re-Engage Keshi With N5 Million Monthly Salary --NFF

THE Nigerian Football Federation,NFF,said it has renewed the contract
of Coach Stephen Keshi to handle the Super Eagles coaching job.

According to the organisation,Keshi, whose new contrat has been
officially communicated to him, is to get a N5 million monthly salary
besides a comfortable house and other benefits.

NFF president,Amaju Pinnick, disclosed this, Friday, during the 2015
budget defence of the Federal Ministry of Sports.

He said the necessary papers were issued to the Super Eagles handler a week ago.

He also said NFF was awaiting Keshi's response to his new contract
even as he hinted that official pronouncement on the contract would be
made within ten days.

But he regretted that the contract, which Keshi has not communited the
federation on its acceptance or otherwise, has since dominated the
media.

"The contract was forwarded to him about a week ago and of course,in
the media,we started hearing some stories.

"In the federation,we do not believe in the media,we believe in the
official correspondences between the employer and the employee.

"I can assure you that within the next ten to fifteen days,at worst,we
should be able to make a pronouncement of this contract finally.

"We have given him time to study the contract.Like I said, corresponce
should not be hearsay, correspondence should be between the employee
and the employer and that is what we are waiting for,"he stressed.

He added: "So,based on the reality on ground,it took them quite a
couple of time but I can assure you that the contract that we offer
Coach Stephen Keshi,we went through a lot of processes that at the end
of the day, if anybody sees it,he will know that it is a thoroughly
done contract.

"And in terms of the finance,we advocated to pay five million naira
with other provision for housing and some other anxiliary and very
realistic benefits, which of course, are all enshrined in his
contract."

He said the new contract went through vigorous processes in order to
avoid mistakes of the past.

"When I got elected, I went through a lot of documentation in the
federation and I found that in the past, coaches were employed and
there were some issues that were not sorted out.

"So,I made sure that all the committees that had to do with the
employment of the coach met from the legal committee of the federation
to the technical committee and because of the fact that we don't want
any form of issues after a coach has been elected, they went through
all these.

"We looked at the reality on ground and I told them very clearly that
what can we pay based on what we are going to be expecting, even the
economy also affects the Nigerian corporate which of course,we always
tried to target,to meet our budgeting provision,"he stressed.

"We are prepared to work day and night in Anambra to ensure peace;
this is just a warning to others who are preparing to unleash mayhem
in this state.

"I am ready and my men are equally ready for them, if they think
Anambra is safe for them, they should have a rethink."

Harrison Ford, "AirForce One" Actor in Critical Condition After Plane Crash

Harrison Ford was hospitalized yesterday after crash landing a plane
in Venice, California.
The 'Air Force One' actor who has been a licensed pilot for nearly two
decades, wasn't going to be able to make the runaway at Santa Monica
Airport so he picked a long green at the nearby Penmar golf course to
land out of the way of the congested neighborhood.

While he was rushed from the scene bleeding heavily from a head wound,
his injuries were described as "critical" by the law enforcement
officials

'At the hospital. Dad is ok. Battered, but ok! He is every bit the man
you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man,' his son Ben
Ford tweeted just two hours after the crash. 'Thank you all for your
thoughts and good vibes for my dad.'

The fact that Ford escaped the crash with just a few injuries is not
surprising to those who have flown with him.

Ebonyi State House Of Assembly And The Impeachment Debate --By Jerry Uhuo

In the past few days in Ebonyi state, tongues have been set wagging
over the motion for the impeachment of the governor of the state Chief
Martin Elechi passed by the state House of Assembly to commence the
impeachment process. Many people who followed the steps taken before
the impeachment motion have hailed the decision while a few others
think otherwise. The House has anchored the decision to impeach the
governor on what members described as "gross misconduct and breaches
of the Constitution". It is not the first time a governor is being
investigated for impeachment in our nation since return to democracy
in 1999; states like Oyo, Ekiti had witnessed impeachments of their
governors. Impeachment being part of the oversight functions of the
Legislature is meant to check the excesses of the governors.

Yusuph Olaniyonu writing in the ThisDay Newspaper of November 17,
2006, noted that "Section 188 is included in our constitution by its
makers to prevent the chief executives of our 36 states and their
deputies from misbehaving. This misbehavior could border on misuse of
the enormous powers at their disposal or misapplication of the huge
resources of the state. The Section is also to protect the citizenry
from a governor who may have forgotten the contents of his or her oath
of office. The impeachment process is also expected to be one of the
instruments of affecting the doctrine of Separation of Powers in a
modern presidential system. The legislature which is a branch of
government relies on the impeachment process to check the excesses of
the executive and to keep them in line. More importantly, the
impeachment process is expected to be an antidote to the iron-cast
protection granted the president, governors and their deputies under
Section 308. The immunity clause protects the beneficiaries from civil
or criminal prosecution. The elected officials mentioned in the
section cannot even be compelled to appear in court to give evidence.
Neither can they be arrested or detained".

The Legislature is one of the institutions in a democracy which is
highly revered because it has the constitutional powers to hold
governments accountable to the electorates. It is for this reason
that the scrutiny of the executive is perhaps one of the most
important functions of any Legislature. A condition for the exercise
of executive power in a constitutional democracy is that the executive
is checked by being held accountable to an organ of government
distinct from it. This function has become especially critical given
the enormous powers wielded by executive arm of government in an era
of growing concern for accountability and transparency.

That is why K. C. Wheare acknowledged that the most important role of
a modern parliament is 'making the government (to) behave', and in
that regard democrats usually look to Legislature to ensure that the
executive is kept under scrutiny and prevented from abusing its
powers.

There is no doubt that in most democracies in developing societies
like Nigeria, the attempt by the Legislature to discharge its
constitutional duties has become a source of friction and disagreement
between legislatures and executives especially those emerging from
Military dictatorships.

In Nigeria, the 1999 Nigerian Constitution as amended provides for a
Legislature that is designed to effectively and actively contribute to
building and consolidating democracy, which is an important aspect of
our democracy where elected representatives of the people should
oversee government actions and ensure that government remains
accountable. The 1999 constitution in full expression to this
principle provided for an exclusive power of investigation and
scrutiny by the National Assembly over the executive under sections 88
and 89 and that of the House of Assembly in sections 128 and 129, so
that the legislature can serve as an institution of restraint on the
executive arm of government and be an arena for crystallizing popular
participation in the broad governmental process.

Charly Boy Talks The Kind Of President Nigeria Needs

Controversial fada,Charly Boywrote an article on the kind of president
Nigeria needs. Charly said Nigeria needs a firm leader who will be a
benevolent dictator.

Read his post below:

Nigeria needs the kind of leader that people are afraid of, one that
commands tremendous respect, charismatic with a lot of enigmatic
swagg. We have had enough of biscuit, baba sala, yahoo.com leaders,
we need someone who can whip people back to shape, because many tinz
spoil.

Someone who can turn around most of the things that have gone wrong,
because right now nobody is afraid of anything, impunity is the order
of the day.

This country needs a man who is selfless and ready for the ultimate
sacrifice, one who smells different, has the guts and is strong enough
to shake Nigeria to its roots, by dealing roughly with some
motherf**kers who have messed up this country.

Nigeria doesn't need a man who is indecisive about things and afraid,
she needs a man who is tough enough to confront the wolves. Nigeria
needs a benevolent dictator. It's really time for some a*s kicking.
How you see the matter?

How can you be living extravagantly when some church members can't
even afford a meal? That is the height of wickedness. Enough of the
deceit, enough of turning the bible upside down to suit people's ears
while they suffer in poverty.

We need spirituality not religiosity. Even with all these churches at
every junction and every bending corner, every brotel and hotel,
morality is at an all time low. The church should be a place for
spiritual nourishment and not a kalukalu venture, or for prosperity
preaching. Pastors should concentrate more on how we should all be our
brothers keepers, rather than praying for us to be rich like them. God
does not operate like a Babalawo neither is he a Nigerian. I am
wondering if me too wont open my own church ,but it will be different
because i will never use Gods name in vain. All these our so called
Men of God should come out and hustle like real men and stop using
psychology to deceive ignorant people and take their money. Haba!!! I
guess that is their own hustle. Where is the humility that Christ
talked about? If anyone is not leading by the examples of Jesus just
like the pope, then his Manofgodizim is very questionable. I thought
they said the meaning of Christianity was Christ likeness. I'm just
wondering. Maybe I'm lost. Abeg, I rest my case joor. Man of God my
ass, who dash dem. I Am even a better BOY of GOD than those MEN OF
GOD. Gbam

Polls: ECOWAS Observers Arrive Nigeria

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Long-Term
Election Observation Mission has arrived Nigeria ahead of the
country's elections rescheduled for March 28 and April 11, Xinhua
reports.

In a statement by the commission on Thursday, the team is part of the
enlarged 250-member ECOWAS Election Observation Mission.

The team is led by Ghana's former president John Kuffour.

The rest of the 18-member team is expected to be in the country next
week, the statement added.

The team was originally deployed to five of Nigeria's six geopolitical
zones in January and left the country following the rescheduling of
the elections.

Kadre Ouedraogo, president of the ECOWAS Commission, led the
delegation to separate meetings with key Nigerian political
stakeholders following the postponement.

The dispatch of observers by the commission is consistent with
provisions of the regional Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and
Good Governance. It is also within the framework of the ECOWAS
Electoral Assistance Program for Member States.

National elections, earlier set for Feb. 14 and Feb. 28, were
rescheduled following a "strong advisory" and a warning from the
National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki and military chiefs that they
could not guarantee security for the polls.

Boko Haram Kills 68 In Borno Village

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen shot dead and slit the throats of 68
people -- including children -- in an attack on a village in Borno
state, according to survivors and vigilante sources, the CNN reported
yesterday.

The attackers then burnt down the entire village of Njaba, the sources said.

Dozens of gunmen invaded the remote northeastern village before dawn
on Tuesday, singling out boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 19
and killing them alongside their parents, witnesses said.

Njaba village lies about 65 kilometres south of Maiduguri, the Borno
State capital. Karimu Lawani, who escaped to Maiduguri after hiding
with eight other people behind the barn of a neighbor, said the
attackers came into the village at around 5 a.m.

"They shot dead anyone that tried to flee but spared children younger
than 13 years old," Lawani said.

He and other survivors counted the victims of the massacre before
leaving the village some hours later.

His account was supported by Faltama Bisika, 62, who lost four
grandchildren in the attack.

"They hurled petrol bombs into homes and opened fire on anyone trying
to flee. They particularly targeted teenagers and elderly people,"
Bisika said.

News of the attack was slow to emerge due to lack of communication
following destruction of cell phone towers in the region in previous
Boko Haram attacks.

"I only got information of the attack on my village last night," said
a civilian vigilante from Njaba who asked not to be named. The
vigilante said his father was among those killed.

The vigilante said he left Njaba for Maiduguri in June to join others
fighting against the Islamist radical group.

He said he believes the attackers came from Gwoza -- a town on
Nigeria's mountainous border with Cameroon that Boko Haram seized last
June -- because Njaba "lies on the route to Gwoza from Maiduguri."

The Leader Nigeria Needs Now --Obasanjo

Why is Nigeria so troubled?
How do we resolve this country's problems?

These were some of the questions yesterday at an intellectual exercise
to mark former President Olusegun Obasanjo's 78th birthday.

Two distinguished citizens - former Chief of Defence Staff Gen.
Martin Luther Agwai and National Office for Technology Acquisition and
Promotion Director-General Dr. Umar Bindiri - tackled the topics of
the day.

But it was Obasanjo himself who summed it all up. The problem,
according to him, is leadership.

The lectures were delivered at his Presidential Library in Abeokuta,
the Ogun State capital.

The former president, who praised his guests for coming to honour him,
reiterated that his loyalty to the country comes first and cannot be
undermined.

He said once Nigeria gets it right by putting the correct leader in
place, the nation's thirst for greatness, all-round growth would be
fulfilled.

He said it would take one person - the leader - to make the positive
difference everybody is yearning for, adding that Nigeria has not got
every other aspect of her life right because the leadership question
has not be addressed.

Obasanjo said: "Loyalty to Nigeria should not be undermined by
anything, except the truth; what is right and what is in the best
interest of this great country of ours. May God continue to bless
Nigeria.

"We have listened to two beautiful lectures, presentation or what you
will call them. For me, it has been very instructive and I have not
been disappointed by either of the presenters and they have met the
expectations.

"But you have seen that they haven't presented us with magic as
solutions to our problems and there is nothing they have told us that
is impossible but all they have said boils down to one thing and one
thing only - leadership.

"And until we get it right, anytime we do not get it right, we cannot
get any other thing right, don't let us deceive ourselves, whether it
is security, science and technology or innovation or the development
of the economy or education they all boil down to leadership and at
all levels.

"May God give us the leadership that occasions like this deserve in
Nigeria. Because when we have that, we will get there. I'm an
incurable optimist about this country, and may be because I have seen
in a little bit in my short span of life, a little bit of what is
possible and a little bit of what can go wrong and what can be made
to go wrong.

"And may be that is why I am, incurable optimist and I believe that
all will be well in this country. We have no choice anyway, all has to
be well.

"We are about 180 million now, our brothers and sisters in West Africa
are worried, and when they talk to me and I said why are they worried,
they said, 'if half a million Nigerians go to Republic of Benin, we
will overwhelm them; if two million go to Ghana. That is a big
problem.

"Even Britain is worried. They are worried. They said the problem is
that if one million Nigerians go to Britain, they said in 10 years
time, there will be 10 million Nigerians in Britain and they will
rather keep us here.

"There is no reason why any Nigerian child, at this point in time
should not have a basic education, food and nutrition, not only
Nigeria child, any Nigerian should not go to bed without food.

"We have the resources to achieve all that, that we are not achieving
it does not mean we don't have the resources. It is because we haven't
manage our resources well.

"Employment. If all other things are right, there should be no reason
for any Nigerian who wants to be employed not to have the opportunity
for employment. And if the things that all the young ones are
expecting are not there, in 15 years time, they will be good recruits
for Boko Haram or its equivalent. Do not let us deceive ourselves.

He said 10 poultry farms have been hit by the disease and more may be affected.

"About 558 assorted species of birds in seven poultry farms in Toro
local government area alone have been wiped out by the flu. Out of the
total number, 9,208 were earlier killed by the rampaging avian
influenza," the commissioner stated.

Toro local government area, The Nation gathered has the highest number
of affected poultry farms in the state because of the conducive
weather and peaceful nature of the area.

'Boko Haram Using Chibok Girls As Shekau's Shield'

Troops have not carried out aerial bombardment of Boko Haram leader
Abubakar Shekau's hideout because the sect is using the Chibok girls
as shield, it was learnt yesterday.

Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, on Wednesday visited
Chad to seek clarifications on some issues and map out plans with
multi-national force on what a source described as the final onslaught
against Boko Haram.

The military source, who spoke in confidence with The Nation
correspondent, said Shekau and some members of his Shura Committee -
the sect's highest policy making body - had been shuttling between
Sambisa Forest and strategic locations, such as Gwoza and Bama.

The Chadian President, Idris Deby said Shekau's convoy was sighted in
Dikwa on Tuesday.

But the military source explained that Shekau has a strong base in
Gwoza with a special armoured tank.

The source said: "Troops have located what I may call Shekau's bunker
but they cannot strike because some of the Chibok girls are being used
as shield by the leaders of Boko Haram.

"We want to do a clinical job with limited damage because the whole
world is awaiting the safe return of the Chibok girls.

" The ability of the troops to rescue some of the girls will earn more
credit to the success of Nigerian military against the insurgents.

"We are also being extremely careful to avoid any military assault
which may force Shekau to turn against the Chibok girls and other
hostages in Boko Haram's camps in the Northeast.

According to the source, intelligence report has indicated that recent
bombings in Jos and other cities were borne out of anger against the
military for reclaiming over 40 occupied territories and killing more
than 300 insurgents."

Air Marshal Badeh on Wednesday met with the Chadian military hierarchy.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said: " The session was used to
iron out alleged claims by Chadian military that Nigerian troops were
frustrating its collaborating troops in the Northeast.

"At the meeting, the Chadian military denied issuing such statement.
Instead, it restated its commitment to collaboration with Nigeria to
rout out the insurgents from the Northeast and the sub-region.

"After ironing out the misgivings, the CDS and Chadian counterpart
later mapped out plans with the multi-national force on the final
onslaught against Boko Haram.

"We are likely to see enhanced synergy between Nigerian troops and
their Chadian counterparts in the next few days."

Commissioner Dies After Presenting His Ministry's 2015 Budget

The Benue State Commissioner for Rural Development and Cooperatives,
Mr. Aondowase Chia, has passed away.

Chia died at the age of 46, in the early hours of Wednesday, March 4,
Punch reports.

According to report, the previous day, March 3, he had presented his
ministry's 2015 budget before the Benue State House of Assembly
without any sign of illness.

On getting to his office, he could not stand from his chair and was
rushed to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi where
he died. He is believed to have died of stroke.

Chia is survived by his wife and eight children.

He is the second commissioner in the ministry to die in office under
the administration of Governor Gabriel Suswam.

Atorto Girgi, an indigene of Ushongo Local Government Area of the
state, as the ministry's commissioner, died in active service over
three years ago.

Prof. Saint Gbilekaa, Chief of Staff to the Governor, who led members
of the state executive council on a sympathy visit to the family of
the deceased in Makurdi, described the death as sad and very
unfortunate.

The deceased was first appointed commissioner for Youths and Sports in
2011 and was later moved to the ministry of Rural Development and
Cooperatives in 2013 where he stayed until his demise.

May his soul rest in peace, amen.

There has been a lot of sudden death in recent times. In January, the
lifeless body of one of the female accountants at the Lagos State
Sports Council was found lying on the floor of the office.

That same month, a reporter from the Bauchi State Television
Authority (BATV), Malam Ibrahim Aliyu, slumped and died while working
on a story at the Government House, Bauchi.

Mum Set Fire On Two Babies To Make Headlines, Blamed Spontaneous Combustion

Rahul Karnan and his newborn brother were admitted to hospital in two
separate cases of spontaneous combustion, Nedimoliyur, Villupuram,
India.

The boys' mother Rajeshwari Karnan claimed her babies spontaneously
burst into flames - the first incident took place in 2013 when her
then-3-months-old son Rahul was rushed to hospital with extensive burn
injuries. The baby allegedly went on to suffer three more similar
accidents following which the village community ostracised Rajeswari
and her family.

In January this year Mrs Karnan's 10-day-old child, who has not been
named, was also admitted to hospital. His mother claims his feet had
spontaneously combusted while she was in the bath - the boy had about
10 percent burn damage to his feet. The baby has been in hospital for
more than a month, now he is stable, ready for discharge but doctors
are refusing to release a baby back to his mother.

Medics fear Rajeshwari is abusing her children in order to get
attention. This condition is called Munchausen by proxy syndrome - a
mental illness whereby a parent seeks to harm their child to get
attention. Hospital dean Narayana Babu said,"All tests reveal he is
completely normal. The parents went through psychiatric counselling
and were found to be normal."

Medics still question the spontaneous combustion explanation, pointing
out that the phenomenon has never been proven to exist and given the
large amount of water the average human body contains. However, there
are several hypotheses regarding potential causes and mechanisms,
including victim behavior and habits, alcohol consumption and
proximity to potential sources of ignition, as well as the behavior of
fires that consume melted fats.

British Woman Weds Dog In Expensive 'Romantic' Wedding Ceremony

After Marriage To Man Failed
In a rather strange turn of events, a woman has vowed against men and
married her pet dog. 47 year old Amanda Rodgers from Brixton in south
London was married to a man 20 years ago, but the relationship
unfortunately lasted no more than a few short months, so dismayed she
decided to swear against men and turn to dogs.

Amanda states that the reason she decided to wed her pet dog was
because she had all the qualities that she was looking for in a life
partner: "Sheba had been in my life for years, making me laugh and
comforting me when I was feeling low."

Proceedings started out in a traditional way, when Amanda got down on
one knee and proposed to her pet dog, Sheba. Though the dog could not
respond, Rodgers says that she "could tell by her tail wagging that
she said yes."

More than 200 people attended the wedding which took place in Split,
Croatia. Rodgers embraced the day fully making sure that everything
was to her liking, adding that: "I'd dreamed of a perfect wedding
dress since I was small, I made it myself for the ceremony. The day
was wonderful, more fun than the marriage. I gave her a kiss to seal
the deal and then everyone threw confetti. It was a wonderful moment."

Despite it being a rather strange situation, Amanda doesn't care what
other people might think: "I know the wedding to Sheba wasn't real in
the legal sense. But was a nice way to mark what Sheba means to me.
Sheba's never unkind to me and she's always happy."

Buhari Arrives Nigeria From London

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC),
General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), is back in Nigeria, after being away
for over a week.

He arrived in Abuja from London this morning, at about 5:45a.m., on
British Airways Flight #083.

Despite the fact that his flight landed very early in the morning,
Buhari, who looked hale and hearty was received by a large crowd at
Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport.

He spoke very briefly to journalists before heading for a waiting car
that took him away.

Buhari told reporters he was physically and mentally fit.

Asked whether he went abroad to seek medical attention, Buhari said he
took some time off the campaigns to get some rest.

"I just went off for a couple of weeks to rest. That's all I did", he said.

On whether he ever visited any hospital while holidaying in UK, he
said: "What is wrong for me to go the hospital? Am I not here now?
Aren't you seeing me? Are you seeing a sick man?"

Reacting to an observation that his absence had cost his party a lot
in the campaign, Buhari said: "I don't think so. One man does not make
a party."

A Twitter user @Ayourb shared some pictures of Buhari's arrival.

Buhari left Abuja for London on February 19, 2015. His absence quickly
sparked controversies in the country as some claimed he had travelled
for health reasons. One of those who claimed he had travelled for
medical treatment was the governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose.

Despite all the attempts by his party leaders to prove that the only
reason for his trip was to deliver a speech at Chatham House, some
were still in doubt.

However, Buhari spoke at the Royal Institute of International Affair,
Chatham House, in London, the United Kingdom on February 26, where he
addressed the major problems and challenges plaguing Nigeria.

Secondary School, Chibok, on April 14, 2014 by the fundamentalist
group, Boko Haram.

Power (Hon. Mohammed Wakil), Olawale Rasheed, which was sent to
newsmen, it was disclosed that, at the meeting in Maiduguri on
Thursday morning, the federal government, through its' representative,

Chibok Girls Are Alive --Jonathan

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has assured the parents of the Abducted
Chibok girls and all Nigerians that the girls are still alive and his
government was doing everything possible to rescue them.

The president who spoke when he appeared on a Live Discussion
programme on an African Independent Television (AIT), Kaakaki
monitored in Abuja hinged his optimism on the assumption that had the
girls been killed, the terrorists would have publicly displayed their
corpses in order to induce fear.

In the over one hour programme, President Jonathan who was appearing
on a Nigerian Television station for the first time apart from the
government owned Nigerian Television Authority spoke on a wide range
of issues including his chances of being re-elected in the forth
coming election.

President Jonathan admitted during the programme that government under
rated the capacity of the Boko Haram sect and this explains why they
are so entrenched.

According to the President, with the increased capacity of the
military which has taken possession of more than 65 percent of the
platform needed to prosecute the war, the remaining territories still
under the control of the terrorists would soon be recaptured.

Speaking on why the girls have not been recovered despite the gains
recorded by the military, the president said its is because
"reasonable territories are still in the hands of Boko Haram.

"We promised that we must get the girls. The good story is that they
have not killed them because the terrorists, when they kill, they
display. They use it to intimidate the whole society. They girls are
alive. We will get the girls. Luckily, we are narrowing down the area
of their control. So, we will get them" he said.

President Jonathan said "at the beginning, probably we did not really
(correctly) estimate the capacity of Boko Haram. It is obvious. Boko
Haram started as a non-violent group led by Yusuf, limited to around
Maiduguri area, Yobe. They did not even get to Adamawa.

"Just like every group of youths or young people is inclined to
criminality, over the period, they expanded their network and linked
up with other terrorist organizations like in the North Africa like
Al-Qaeda and other similar brands in the world.

"So, they continued to build their capacity and it got to point to
know that for you to tackle them in the kind of environment they
operate, you need some specialized equipment to use and we don't
manufacture these equipment now. That is why the movement has changed.
So, it is not deliberate," he said.

Speaking on the forthcoming election, President Jonathan admitted that
he is facing a stiffer opposition than he faced in 2011 but expressed
confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be victorious.

He said: "I agree with you it was easier (in 2011) but PDP is still
the dominant party. There is no polling unit in Nigeria where you
don't have members of the PDP.

"Yes, for one reason or the other, within the party people get angry
and may even vote against PDP but in terms of membership of the PDP,
there is no party that has that spread.

"So, PDP still has the most formidable structure, PDP has better
chances of winning a national election."

"Even the opposition will tell you if they are realistic. Who has
strengthened the opposition? Are they not the PDP elements? If you
remove the PDP elements from the opposition, they will just crumble
like a pack of cards.

"Why are people aggressive towards the PDP to the extent that even the
presidential convoyed is stoned? Why do you show that aggression? If
you are comfortable, you will not do that" he said.

He however added that what he is facing is not unusual because
globally, second term election is more challenging.

"Globally, it is more challenging for a president to secure a second
term than the first tenure," because people get disappointed when
there expectations are not quickly met by those they voted for.

PDP still has an edge over the opposition."

On the fuel scarcity being experienced in some parts of the country,
President Jonathan said government has taken necessary steps to bring
it to an end.

"For the fuel scarcity, we are doing everything humanly possible to
ensure it is taken care of. It is very temporary. Of course, there
issues of payment being addressed and we believe that within one or
two day, this will completely go" he said.

refused to leave jail in protest for his arrest and detention. Read
the NAN report on the matter after the cut

A Wuse Zone 6 Senior Magistrates' Court, Abujaon Wednesday fixed April
2for hearing in the criminal case brought against Nigerian boxer, Bash
Ali, and four other accused persons. Meanwhile Bash Ali has refused to
leave jail despite meeting bail conditions. The four others are
Gabriel Ikyowe; Timothy Ugbede; Daniel Otoski and Jones Ebele.

They were arraigned by the police on Feb. 19 on a six-count charge of
joint act of abetment, criminal trespass, and obstruction in public
way. They were also charge with criminal trespass, causing obstruction
in public way, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation. The
prosecuting police officer, Sgt. Bulus Samuel said the charges
contravened the provisions of sections 79, 85, 348, 194, 256, and
397(b) of the Penal Code. When case was first mentioned on Feb. 19,
all the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges. The
Magistrate subsequently granted them bail in the sum of N1 million
each with one surety each who must be a civil servant not below salary
GL 10. According to the Magistrate, the sureties must be reliable,
resident within the court jurisdiction and must swear an affidavit to
substantiate reliable means of livelihood. Bello adjourned the matter
for hearing to March 4, adding the sureties, who must be civil
servants, must produce their first appointment letter and their last
promotion letter.

At the resumption of hearingon Wednesday, the Principal Witness 1, Mr
Bisong Peter, told the court that he and some of NEXIM Bank workers
were assaulted by the accused persons.

Peter is the Chief Security Officer to NEXIM Bank.

He said this under cross examination led by counsel to the accused
persons, Mr Anthony Agbolahan.

According to him, Ali, his colleagues and others now at large,
disrupted NEXIM Bank operations by preventing workers and customers
from entering the premises during their protest on Feb. 18.

"Ali called himself a suicide bomber and claimed that he was coming to
bomb the bank.

"As a security agent, my colleagues and I have to be on alert.

"They came on a protest carrying placard with all kinds of
inscriptions against corruption; we stopped them but they were still
able to gain entry into the premises.

"When they were disturbing and making noise, we called the police who
later came to our rescue.

"Ali had visited NEXIM Bank several times but am not aware the purpose
of his visits,'' Peter said.

He, however, said that during one of such visits, he had a meeting
with the bank's management and later left in anger".

Defence counsel, Mr Anthony Agbolahan, however asked Peter whether he
was aware that Ali and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) were
planning a boxing championship. When the witness answered in the
negative, the defence lawyer told the court that Ali and his team
visited the bank in connection with the championship. Agbolahan also
sought from the CSO whether Ali and other attacked the bank's Managing
Director, to which the witness also answered in the negative. Witness
also admitted that Ali had had a meeting with the management before
but that Ali left the meeting in "anger"

Senior Magistrate, Habiba Bello, having listened to the parties
adjourned the case tillApril 2for continuation hearing.

10 Warning Signs Your Kidneys May Be Bad

The kidneys are vital organs that perform certain key functions
without which it becomes practically impossible for the body to
thrive. Some of the fundamental roles the kidneys play involve
excretion of nitrogenous waste products and toxins from the body
system; maintenance of fluid and electrolyte balance; synthesis of
erythropoietin to drive red blood cell production and regulation of
Blood Pressure.

From the aforementioned, it is obvious that failure of both kidneys
has grave implications for the affected individual. But do the kidneys
have to fail before medical help and intervention is sought? The
answer is NO.

Discussed below are some of the warning or alarm signs that may point
to failing kidneys, necessitating an urgent visit to your doctor for
proper evaluation and management:

1. Change in urine volume

If you have observed that you now pass large volumes of urine more
often than usual (polyuria), especially if you need to urinate more
than 2-3 times at night (nocturia), you may need to see the doctor for
further evaluation of your kidneys. In the same vein, reduction in
urine output (oliguria) may be a pointer to Acute Kidney Injury. In
any case, if you have observed any persistent changes in your urine
output, go and see the doctor.

2. Frothiness/Foaminess of the urine

Did you notice that your urine foams excessively and over a prolonged
period? It may be due to large quantities of protein leaking into your
urine because of damaged kidneys. You will be doing yourself a lot of
good to have your kidneys assessed properly.

3. Passage of bloody urine (Haematuria)

This is a condition in which an individual passes blood - frank or
altered in the urine. It's an alarm symptom that can be due to myriads
of problems affecting the kidneys, ureters or the bladder. Some of the
common causes are acute glomerulonephritis, sickle cell nephropathy,
polycystic kidney disease, renal cancer, stones along the urinary
tract, schistosomiasis and so on. Moreover, the bottom line is that
the comprehensive evaluation of the kidneys to exclude a renal disease
is crucial in this case.

4. Body swelling

Early morning facial swelling or puffiness that regresses as the day
goes by is especially suggestive of 'faulty' kidneys. Eventually, the
swelling may progress to involve the entire body (anasarca). However,
malnutrition, cardiac or liver diseases may also give a similar
picture. If you have this symptom, it's necessary to present to the
physician.

5. Persistent hiccups

Inability of the failing kidneys to excrete urea (one of the waste
products) ultimately leads to an accumulation of this toxic substance
in the blood (uraemia) and this often irritates the diaphragm, leading
to persistent hiccups.

6. Body itching/Pruritus

This is another manifestation of accumulated toxic waste products in
the bloodstream. Hence, if you experience persistent body itching,
assessing your renal function may be of tremendous benefit.

7. Lethargy and Fatigue

Patients with chronic renal disease often complain of easy
fatiguability upon little or no exertion. This is understandable given
the role of the kidneys in red blood cell production such that failure
of both kidneys is likely to lead to low blood levels (Anaemia) and
consequent inability to cope with the demands of body tissues.

8.Shortness of breath

Based on the fact that the kidneys are responsible for maintaining
body fluid balance, when the kidneys fail, accumulation of fluids in
both lungs may result and this interferes with gaseous exchange in the
lung alveoli thereby making breathing difficult if not impossible.

9. Nausea/Vomiting

Some patients with kidney failure complain of persistent nausea and a
tendency to throw up all the time. Again, this is likely due to waste
products of metabolism, especially urea that has accumulated in the
body due to renal disease.

10. Pain in the loins/flanks

The kidneys are situated in the loins. Hence, the recurrent or
persistent flank pain may be a pointer to kidney diseases due to
stones (nephrolithiasis), infection (pyelonephritis) or cysts
(polycystic kidney disease). Obviously, persistent loin pain warrants
further evaluation in a hospital.

In conclusion, it is pertinent to note that definite renal replacement
therapy for End-Stage Kidney Disease is so capital-intensive that it's
beyond the reach of the common man. Hence, early intervention to
prevent or slow down the progression to End-Stage Kidney Disease may
be life-saving. But this is only possible when patients recognize the
early warning signs of kidney disease and make themselves available on
time for proper evaluation.

Guru Convinced 400 Men To Castrate Themselves To Be Closer To God

'Guru of Bling' collects testicles for God: An Indian spiritual leader
is accusedof convincing up to 400 followers to remove their testicles,
claiming that by doing so the men would be able to speak directly to
God.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, known as "The Guru in Bling," is accusedof
coercing hundreds of followers to undergo the procedure at a hospital
run by his spiritual organization.

India's Central Bureau of Investigation has reportedlyobtained
statements from victims, saying the castrations took place at a
hospital run by Ram Rahim's organization.

The Sydney Morning Herald reportsofficers from India's elite Central
Bureau of Investigation appear to have made a crucial breakthrough in
the long-running investigation into the alleged mass castrations, last
week gathering important testimony from victims and other witnesses as
they prepare charges of grievous bodily harm against Ram Rahim.

Previously a "cone of silence" has surroundedthe accusations against
the wildly popular guru, who has around 50 million followers
worldwide, and is worth an estimated $50 million.

According to reports, most of the victims feared for their lives if
they dare spoke out against the figure revered by millions.

Ram Rahim Singh and his organization denythat they had anything to do
with the castrations, claiming:

This business of castration is not part of the doctrine ... No such
practice can be attributed to either the guru or our organization.

This is not the first time the guru has been accused of wrongdoing. In
2002, he faced conspiracy charges over the murder of a journalist who
was investigating him, and there have also been allegations of sexual
abuse of female followers.

Adding to Rahim Singh's cult of celebrity, the guru is currently
starring as the lead in a recently made Bollywood film titled "MSG:
Messenger of God." In January, the film opened to a world-record
audience of over 150,000 at a public premiere in Gurgaon, a city just
outside Delhi. The film supposedly shows Ram Rahim breaking a tree
trunk with his bare hands and walking on air, among other miracles.

U.S. Ambassador To South Korea Slashed In The Face By knife-Wielding Activist

A militant Korean nationalist has slashed the face of the US
ambassador to South Korea at a breakfast meeting in Seoul, but the
envoy narrowly survived serious injury.

Mark Lippert, 42, was also cut on his left hand, with blood spattered
over the breakfast table.
Security officers subdued the attacker, one pinning him down with a
shoe on his neck, until he was arrested.

North Korea described the attack as "just punishment for US warmongers".

In a statement on state media, it said the attacker had delivered a
"knife shower of justice".

US Secretary of State John Kerry reacted by saying America would not
be "intimidated or deterred by threats or by anybody who harms any
American diplomats".

The attacker, named as Kim Ki-jong, 55, appears to have broken his
ankle during the attack and was taken away on an ambulance trolley
after questioning.

Mr Lippert had hospital treatment but later wrote in a tweet: "Doing
well and in great spirits... Will be back ASAP to advance US-ROK
[Republic of Korea] alliance!"

Nobody believes that pro-North Korean groups represent a majority of
South Koreans but they are still a significant minority and part of
the political landscape.

In November, South Korea's constitutional court ordered that the
Unified Progressive Party be dissolved even though it had five members
elected to parliament. The authorities said the UPP posed a threat to
South Korean democracy. One of its leaders was jailed.

The counter-argument of the leftist nationalists is not so much that
they want to be ruled by Pyongyang or fall under a North Korean system
but that the American military presence in South Korea perpetuates a
division within one people - the Korean people.

The strong feelings of pro-Pyongyang activists become most obvious
when anti-Pyongyang activists launch balloons into the North loaded
with propaganda messages. The two sides confront each other, with much
jostling and shouting. There was a small pro-US demonstration after
the attack on the ambassador but some on the streets of the capital
said they applauded it.

South Korean President Park Guen-hye condemned what she called an
"attack on the South Korea-US alliance".

Local people held a protest against the attack outside the hospital
where Mr Lippert was treated, waving placards which read "Mark
Lippert, Cheer up!" and "Korea-US relationship is solid".
Eighty stitches

The attack happened at about 07:40 local time (22:40 GMT Wednesday),
as the ambassador was at a performing arts centre in central Seoul.

It took 80 stitches to close his facial wound, which was 11cm (just
more than 4 in) long and 3cm deep, doctors said.

This photo shows Mark Lippert at the table just before the attack.

208 Prison Inmates To Sit For 2015 UTME; Imo State Record The Highest Applicants

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said that 1,475,477
candidates will sit for this year's Unified Tertiary Matriculation
Examinations scheduled for between March 10 and 21.

Among the candidates are 208 prison inmates and 192 visually impaired
candidates. The prison inmates are from Kaduna and Ikoyi prisons.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, who announced this in Abuja
on Thursday, however, noted the number of candidates writing the

Pastor Chris & Anita Oyakhilome Reportedly Share Their Two Children

Months after the seperation of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the founder of
Christ Embassy Church and his wife, Pastor Anita, the estranged couple
have reportedly shared their two children.

While Sharon, the eldest, prefers Pastor Chris, Charlene is presently
with Anita.

Anita had last year April approached a London court, seeking a divorce
on the grounds of adultery among several allegations.

The suit, number FDI 4001650, was filed on her behalf by Attwaters
Jameson Hill Solicitors on April 9, 2014 at the Divorce Section A,
Central Family Court, First Avenue House, High Holborn, London, United
Kingdom.

Pastor Chris was served the divorce letters in his hotel room during
one of his visits to the UK.

Efforts to reach the camp of Pastor Chris last night proved abortive.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, had then denied the allegations leveled
against him by Anita and even threatened to sue media houses for
damaging his name and Church.

Last September, a statement by his counsel, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN),
described the allegation as "wicked and malicious", and an attempt to
bring Pastor Chris "to public opprobrium and ridicule."

Pinheiro said the adultery allegation "currently circulating in the
media was nothing but a complete distortion of facts in the pending
proceedings in the United Kingdom".

The lawyer warned media establishments to verify the authenticity of
their stories before publication, saying his counsel would take
appropriate legal actions against them to protect Pastor Chris
Oyakhilome's reputation and that of the church.
