Why I Advised My Son To Marry A Foreigner Instead Nigerian Women — Oshiomhole's Mother

IYAMHO community in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State
became the envy of the Nigeria last Friday, May 15, 2015, when the
Comrade Governor of Edo state, Adams Aliyu Eric Oshiomhole exchanged
marital vows with his heartthrob, former Miss Iara Fortes, a lawyer
from Cape Verde.

It would be recalled that Oshiomhole's first wife, Clara lost the
protracted battle with cancer on December 7, 2010, just two years
after her husband became governor of Edo state.

Vanguard investigation showed that the governor shunned the idea of
marrying Nigerian woman in order not to create crisis in his family.

His mother, Hajia Aishetu told Vanguard that "I supported him to marry
a foreigner so that the relationship between my son and his children
will remain cordial. Our Nigerian women will go and destroy the family
just because they want property.

" That was the main reason I supported him to marry a foreigner when
he told me about it. So I am happy about it. Besides, the new wife is
a very good woman. She behaves like Comrades late wife.

Very accommodating, understanding and hard working. And you know my
son travels a lot as a governor. He needs a woman who understands his
work and that is the kind of wife he married. She is just like Clara.
Normally, people spend two years or less before they marry again but
Comrade decided to wait for five years due to the love he had for his
late wife. And Clara was a good person, very lovely and nice to all of
us. So we supported Comrade for taking time to re-marry because we
loved Clara. Comrade and the former wife lived very happily, there was
no quarrel, nothing at all and that was why he mourned for five years.
I am happy that he brought a wife that will bring him and the children
together".

Also speaking, the traditional ruler of Iyamho community, HRH Bashiru
Itameso, who equally is a cousin to the Comrade Governor, said "I was
happy seeing him remarry. I am happy because I never wanted him to
marry a Nigerian because our people are wicked. I prefer it that he
married a foreigner. If he had married a Nigerian, in-laws will come
and start troubling him. They will start tearing themselves apart for
materials things and that will create serious problem between
Comrade and his children. We all supported him to marry a foreigner".

4 Priests Beaten To Pulp As Enugu Govt Battles Anglican Church

No fewer than six persons, including four Anglican priests, were on
Friday allegedly beaten to stupor by some members a task-force working
with the Enugu State Housing Corporation.

The victims were Reverends Collins Odoabuchi, Mbaka Peter, Eugene, and
Maxwell Onyia.

Others members of the church affected were Ekpecha Okechukwu and Naomi Ibekwe.

The development, which is building up tension in Enugu, the state
capital is coming one week to the end of Governor Sullivan Chime's
administration.

Vanguard reports that trouble started when members of the task force,
accompanied by armed policemen, invaded a parcel of land belonging to
the Christ Church, Uwani, Anglican Communion, sparking off anger from
both clergymen and members of the church.

The Clerics were said to have tried to stop the Task force from
carrying out the demolition exercise but were over powered by the
government agents, who allegedly unleashed terror on the church
leaders.

One of the victims, who gave her name as Naomi Ibekwe told journalists
that she was hit with iron and hard objects, including stones, causing
bruises and severe injuries on her.

But for the quick intervention of the State Commissioner of Police,
Muhammed Abubakar Adamu, who came physically to the scene, there would
have been more casualties as the members of the task force insisted on
going ahead with the exercise as allegedly directed by the state
government.

Reacting to the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Adamu
Mohammed, told the angry church leaders and their faithful that they
should allow peace to reign as negotiation had begun.

"We have discussed with the church. If anybody is injured, we will not
take it lightly. We have already asked that a formal report be made
and we will follow it up. We have agreed on a peace move and we are
following it up", he stated.

Also speaking, the Priest in-charge of the Christ Church, Venerable N.
Aghadi said, "We have talked at length and discussed very
progressively.

"The Commissioner of Police is pleading that we should go home and
rest. He has promised that the matter is in good hand and that
immediately the Archbishop returns, he will have meeting with him".

However, a source told Vanguard that the state government revoked the
land with an intention to build an estate christened "Transparency
Estate".

While the clash lasted on Friday, five bulldozers were being used to
demolish the structures at the disputed land inside the church
premises.

Findings by Vanguard showed that the Church was dedicated by His
Grace, the Most Reverend C . J. Patterson, the then ArchBishop of West
Africa and Bishop of the Niger in 1965.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the Managing Director of the Enugu State
Housing Corporation, Emeka Vitalis Onah, who led his team to the
place, escaped being lynched by church members who had planned a
reprisal attack.

President Jonathan Receives 2015 Epitome Of Peace Award

President Goodluck Jonathan was on Friday presented with the 2015
Epitome of Peace Award by the Field Superintendent of The Apostolic
Church Nigeria, Federal Capital Territory Field, Apostle John Buzu, at
the Presidential Villa in Abuja, PUNCH reports.

The President said the award, which was in recognition of the step he
took after the March 28 Presidential election, which had led to peace
in the country, had further spurred him into doing more for the
country.

"To whom much is given, much is expected. For you to honour me today,
you have given me another mandate to work harder to ensure that we as
Nigerians continue to live in peace.

"One thing I have decided I will do after leaving office is to be
talking to faithful of all religions: Christians, Muslims and other
religions, on the need for Nigerians to live in peace.

"This is because when there is crisis in any part of the country,
nobody can practise his own religion. If there is crisis anywhere,
people cannot go to the mosque, they cannot go to the church.

"We need peace in this country, no matter our religious persuasion or
belief. That will be one of my main commitments when I leave office:
to reduce discrimination in this country based on religious divides or
ethnicity. I believe I will have so many apostles that will follow me
to do that."

Jonathan Opens Army Radio Station

President Goodluck Jonathan has inaugurated a radio station, known as
Defence Radio 107.7 FM owned by the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

The radio station is located inside the Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.

At the inauguration, President Jonathan said that the Army radio
station is the first of its kind in West Africa, and would play a
crucial role in informing the public about the activities of the armed
forces.

The President commended the armed forces for their resilience in the
fight against insurgency in the north-east and condemned negative
criticisms against the military.

He said that while it was important to criticise, such criticisms
should not aim at weakening the troops' morale.

10 Most Popular Questions Asked During Visa Interviews

Whether you know it or not, you'd have to confront the consular and
answer some grilling questions before the stamp descends on your visa
to allow you travel to the United States or anywhere in the western
world; and come to think of it, your ability to answer questions
correctly determines if you're granted that visa or not.

It does not matter if you've been rejected once or twice at the
embassy; you'll be rejected again and again until you can fully
convince the consular you have what it takes to travel to his/her
country. And no point getting mad at the officer, he/she is highly
trained to approve your visa or reject it based on how he/she
evaluates you and how convincing you answer the questions put to you.

Head or tail, it helps to be thoroughly prepared before meeting with
the consular for your interview, and while hundreds of questions might
be thrown at you based on the training and whims of the interviewing
officer, the following 10 questions and the answers might help put you
in the right frame of mind to meet with the consular. Meanwhile, let
us use traveling to the US for our example.

i. Why do you want to travel to the USA?

Say the truth about why you're travelling because the consular is
trained to see through lies. You might say: I'm travelling for tourism
purpose and to see our daughter who is based on Texas. We intend to
visit Disneyland in Florida, Niagara Falls, Pittsburgh, and possibly
Las Vegas if we have the time because these places are within a
drivable distance of where our daughter lives.

ii. Why must you visit at this time?

This is summer and the best time to visit places in the US. But apart
from this, our daughter arranged for her leave to fall to this time so
that she can have the time to take us round places within and outside
her city. Due to our age, visiting during winter might not be too
suitable for us because of the snow and weather storms.

iii. How long will you be staying in the US?

We shall be staying X number of months, between X to Y months.

iv. Why do you want 1 year visa when 3 months is okay for you?
There is always a lot to see during Christmas in New York and Detroit
(mention the state you're visiting) among others. We'd love to see the
fireworks and displays and even do some Christmas shopping. There are
always a lot of places to visit and see in your country, and due to
our age we may not have another opportunity to visit again.

v. Where will you be staying in the US?

We shall be staying at XYZ street, city, state, and zip. Ensure to
memorize the address and make sure it tallies with what you have on
your visa application.

vi. Who is sponsoring your trip and expenses over there?

Our daughter is taking care of all our expenses. She works at XYZ and
has been in the US for 11 years. Provide proof.

vii. Can I have the contact details of your relatives in the US?

Yes, her phone number is XXX-YYY-ZZZ and her home address is
XXX-YYY-ZZZ. Ensure you know this information off-hand without having
to peruse through jotted notes.

viii. Will you take up job offers or engage in business when you get to the US?

I do not intend to take up job offers or engage in business during
this trip. I'm only visiting my daughter and wish to visit exotic and
fascinating places with her. So I intend to return to my country as
soon as my daughter nudges me to return home.

ix. Who will take care of your home and business when you are gone?

My partner will run the business in my absence and I also have
overseers to manage things behind me. Meanwhile, I have arranged for
my accumulated leave to fall within this period to enable me travel.

x. Have you bought airline tickets or medical insurance?

No. But we shall buy it as soon as we get our visa.

Buhari Jets Off To London With Diezani On Board

Embattled Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke,
today booked herself on a British Airways flight to London with
Nigeria's President-Elect, Muhammad Buhari.

According to SaharaReporters, Buhari was said on an unscheduled trip.
Diezani had been billed to travel to the UK next week Tuesday
according to a source, however upon learning that Buhari was traveling
to London, she asked the airline to book her on the same flight as
Buhari so that she could have a chance to discuss directly with the
President-Elect. The British Airways flight departed Abuja this
morning at 9:00am Nigerian time.

Several aides and close associates of Buhari said they were surprised
to learn of the trip since they were with him till 7PM last night

Anambra Govt Blames Enemies Of The State For Human Flesh Restaurant Rumour

The Anambra State Government on Thursday described the story of a
purported restaurant in the state, which serves human flesh as meat to
unsuspected customers, as the handiwork of anti-democratic elements.

The State Commissioner for Information, Youth and Culture, Dr. Mary
Nwogu, in a statement, made available to journalists in Awka, the
state capital, described the story as a "wider smear campaign" by
enemies of the state.

The statement read, "The attention of the Anambra State Government has
been drawn to a false and malicious report circulating on social media
over the purported closure by the Nigerian Police of a restaurant
selling human flesh in Anambra State.

"This story, as reprehensible and false as it is, was also published
by a national daily, which has since retracted it and apologised,
having found it to be untrue.

"The government of Anambra State, having investigated the story and
found same to be false, hereby urges Ndi Anambra and friends of the
state to ignore the said story as it is part of a wider smear campaign
by anti-democratic forces and enemies of progress, who have been
attempting to sabotage the fast-paced visible infrastructural and
social development going on in the state.

"These individuals, who go by various aliases on social media and on
some other media platforms, have continued to feed unsuspecting
members of the public with lies about Anambra State in the hope that
they will distract the present administration".

The statement added, "It is instructive that the Public Relations
Officer of the Nigeria Police, Anambra State Command, Uche Ezeh, had,
in an earlier statement to the media, debunked the false story.

"Anambra State, the light of the nation, is open for business and is
now the destination of choice in Nigeria for investors looking for a
government friendly investment climate, security, large market,
attractive return on investment, skilled manpower and supporting
infrastructure".

Finally Pastor Chris and Anita Oyahkhilome of Christ Embassy Back Together, Reunite

If the story coming in from Christ Embassy is anything to go by, then
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and his estranged wife, Anita may be coming
together soon.According to a source in the church, the couple have
reconciled for the sake of their children.

This is the testimony a member of Christ Embassy church shared with
the media few hours ago;

"Brethren, please join me to thank God for bringing back this couple
together again. When I first heard that this powerful man of God and
his wife were divorced, it broke my heart, and I knew that something
was wrong somewhere, for a servant of God to divorce his wife.

However, this is an example of what God can do. When all hope was
lost, and people were running their mouth, then God did what he alone
can do, destroying the works of the devil that was operating in this
family and brought them back together again, to show that God does not
condone or tolerate the divorce of his children.

Remember, the devil does not take it lightly with any true and serious
child of God who wants to do God's will. He wants to do everything
possible to destroy their lives, but no matter what happens, God will
give victory at last.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, may God continue to strengthen and use you
mightily for his kingdom in the mighty name of Jesus. All glory to
God."

Pastor Oyakhilome and his estranged wife are yet to issue an official
statement on this report.

For now, we'll wait for an official confirmation from their end.

Why Applicants Are Denied US Visas — Consul-General

The Consul-General, United States Embassy, William Laidlaw, has said
the US visa application processes were simple and not as stringent as
people thought, stressing that the mission was working to improve and
make its visa processes better for Nigerians by decentralising it.

Laidlaw explained that to qualify for a visit to the US, an applicant
must show that he has social and economic ties sufficient to meet the
American immigration terms, adding that those who failed to meet this
requirement are often turned down.

The Consul-General, who said this during a tour of the US Consular
Section by select journalists in Abuja on Thursday, added that those
who had social and economic ties usually had easier time and more
chance to obtain US visa than somebody who is just starting out.

He said, "To really qualify for a visit to the US, you have to show
you have social and economic ties sufficient to meet the immigration
terms we have in our laws.

"To have those social and economic ties usually means somebody who has
developed a career, developed a household and has done something to
develop himself within Nigeria."

Laidlaw said people who were refused visa could re-apply if they felt
that the situations had changed, as according to him, statistics
showed that many who re-applied were issued visas.

"If you can establish your social and economic ties and we understand
who you are in Nigerian context, that allows us to make an evaluation
judgment; It's very hard for very young people, I'm sorry, but that's
the way the law is written," he said.

He, however, said young business people or students who did not
receive a visa should not be discouraged as they could be successful
the next time they applied.

According to him, no fewer than 7,000 Nigerians are studying in his
country, noting that 66 per cent of tourist visa applications were
approved in 2014.

The Consul-General said the missions in Abuja and Lagos processed
about 400 to 900 visa applications daily, excluding the drop-box
applications which are meant for visa renewal.
He said, "Between 2009 and 2014, visa applications rose by 345 per
cent in our missions based in Abuja and Lagos. Nigeria is an expanding
country and the Nigerian middle class is becoming more and more
prominent and growing and all those things reflected in the growth
rate we see in visa applications."

The famous, "There is God," video skit by the first lady, Patience
Jonathan, is Nigeria's most viewed non-music footage ever on popular
online video site, YouTube, the site's owner, Google, announced
Thursday.

The video, published in 2014 by Channels TV, showed Mrs. Jonathan
breaking down at a meeting over the abduction of about 276 schoolgirls
by Boko Haram insurgents in Chibok, Borno State, in a dramatic display
of emotion that drew global attention.

The meeting was the First Lady's first public acknowledgement of the
Chibok abduction, one of Boko Haram's mass kidnapping that shocked the
world.

Addressing a group of women, and the principal of the secondary school
where the girls were seized, Mrs. Jonathan launched into what seemed a
stagy show of grief, scolding the principal for her handling of the
insurgents' attack.

She questioned why the principal hesitated to honour her invitation
for a meeting in Abuja, and the circumstances of the kidnap.

With not satisfactory response from the principal, the Frist Lady
exploded, "All these blood you people are shedding, there is God o,
there is God o, God…o….Chai, there is God o," she lamented repeatedly
before dabbing tears from her eyes with a handkerchief.

Mrs. Jonathan's outburst was also transcribed to imitate her
inflection as, "All these blood you people are sharing, diaris God o,
diaris God oooo, all this bloods you are sharing, chai, chai, chai
diaris God oooh".

The video drew wide attention across the world, at a time the
international community was fixed on how the Nigerian government was
responding to the abduction.

The girls remain in captivity more than a year after.

The video ranking was released by Google on Thursday as YouTube
celebrates its 10th year anniversary.

All For Weight Loss

Did you know that you can eat all you want and not gain weight? To
most people, this sounds too good to be true; but it is very possible.
Improved dietary habit, how you eat and when you eat can impact your
health, help you lose weight and make you feel better in the long run.
However, if you are finding it difficult to eat healthy or sustain
healthy dietary habit, these suggestions may be useful to you.

*.Avoid eating out: If you don't want to gain weight and you don't
want to give up your regular foods, then don't eat out. Instead, eat
only what you prepare, as it will help you ascertain the quality of
your meals. Prepare your food with less fat, salt and carbohydrate.

*.Reduce your plate size: If you reduce the size of your food by half,
over a period of time, you will definitely see a change in your
weight. And stop the habit of eating till you belch!

*.Add vegetables to your food: Always eat your food with plenty
vegetables, no matter the dish. Ensure half your plate is always
filled with vegetables each time you eat, irrespective of what is in
your plate. There is always a vegetable to match any kind of food.

*.Avoid late dinners: Eating late dinner is one major reason why most
people gain weight, as energy derived from late dinner is usually
stored as fat in the body because it is never used. Try eating your
dinner three hours before bed time and make it very light.

*.Eat, but exercise: You can eat all you want but you must exercise a
little more than usual to enable you to use up all the energy you
gather from the food; else, it will remain in your body and become
fat. This usually leads to excess weight and some health-related
challenges.

Open Letter To All Igbo Elected Politicial Leaders

YOUR Excellences, Kindly permit me to use this medium to congratulate
all of you on your most deserving but hard earned victory at the
polls. I thank God for finding you worthy to occupy this position of
responsibility and pray for wisdom and good health to enable you
succeed in this national assignment.

It is very obvious that by this victory, you have been elevated to a
position of honour and political leadership of both the Igbo nation
and Nigeria as a whole. It is by this recognition that I wish to draw
your kind attention to some critical issues which I consider pertinent
to the political and economic development of Nd'Igbo in this new
dispensation.

I believe that the political environment in Nigeria today has not only
placed Nd'Igbo at a cross-road but at the same time at a political
strategic advantage depending on how we play our card. There is no
doubt that today the Igbo nation has become a powerful bloc that can
influence, if well managed, the direction of political and economic
activities in Nigeria to the advantage of our people in particular and
Nigeria in general. You therefore need to be very creative in thinking
and exhibit a high sense of political sagacity in order to discover
the best route and a new role that will re-launch us into political
reckoning in this new dispensation. I believe that the first test of
this new political alignment shall be consummated with your role in
the upcoming election of the Leadership of the 8th National Assembly.

Your Excellences, I wish to refresh your memories with the following
facts and set an agenda which to my mind represents the wishes and
aspiration of the Igbo people. This will engender your success as well
as enable you remain focused and committed to the high expectations of
our people.

1.Unity of Purpose

At the beginning of the 4th Republic in 1999, the position of the
Senate President was zoned to the Southeast by the PDP government.
Either by fate or design, Nd'Igbo produced five senate presidents
within the eight years of the Obasanjo presidency. This was largely
seen as lack of coordination and political immaturity on the part of
the Igbo leaders. Today's circumstance presents a unique opportunity
for us to re-write our own history and correct the negative impression
about the lack of unity of purpose by the Igbo. By bringing yourselves
together to present a bloc vote at all times, you will greatly
increase your value and earn deep respect from your colleagues. This
is the best way to go in order to achieve more for our people.

2.Igbo Presidency

The Southeast remains the most marginalised in terms of power sharing
in our country today. We are the only zone that is yet to produce the
president of Nigeria, yet, we have demonstrated our belief and
commitment to Nigeria through our sojourn and investments in other
parts of the country more than any other zone.Nd'Igbo has indeed paid
their dues and sincerely deserves the support of other zones to
actualise the Igbo presidency. The way and manner you as the Igbo
political leaders of today repackage the Igbo nation politically will
go a long way to keep the project alive and achievable within the
shortest time possible.

3.'Ethnophobia'

Nd'Igbo has made enormous economic investment in Nigeria majority of
which are located outside the Igbo land. As a result, we have the
utmost reason to work for the sustenance of peace and unity of
Nigeria. It is often said that you put your heart where your money is.
Most people have condemned the recent xenophobia attack in South
Africa but within our country lies a similar hatred and systemic
repressive agenda against a particular ethnic group, what I call
'ethnophobia' – the hate and attack on an ethnic group in her own
country. That the Igbo are target of ethnophobia is not debatable
considering the number of death and looting of Igbo property and
investment recorded in different parts of Nigeria at every imaginable
opportunity for violence. Also, a new dimension of hate speeches
against the Igbo by prominent citizens from other parts of the
countryis being introduced into this deliberate extermination
campaign. You have a duty to fight for the protection of the life,
investment and property of Nd'Igbo wherever they live in Nigeria.

Oil & Gas

Abia and Imo states are oil producing states and currently part of the
NDDC. There is the need to examine the NDDC projects with a view to
determining whether these Igbo states are shortchanged in terms of
projects allocation and execution.

Jose Mourinho Named Barclays Manager Of The Season As Eden Hazard Receives Best Player Accolade

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been named the Barclays Manager of
the Season, with his star man Eden Hazard scooping the player award.

The Portuguese boss helped the Blues to their first Premier League
title in five years after a dominant season which saw them top of the
table for a record 274 days.

It is the third time Mourinho has been awarded the Manager of the
Season accolade - the others also came after Premier League title
triumphs in 2004-05 and 2005-06.

Mourinho has won the award despite not winning a Manager of the Month
prize all season. Indeed, he has only won a monthly honour three times
during his two spells at the club.

Belgium international Hazard, 24, has enjoyed a sensational season,
scoring 14 Premier League goals and contributing nine assists.

He has played in all 37 of Chelsea's league matches but will miss
Sunday's final match against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge after
emergency dental surgery to remove three wisdom teeth.

The surgery meant he missed Thursday night's Football Writers'
Association awards ceremony, where he was named Player of the Year.

Chelsea will lift the Premier League trophy after Sunday's match and
are planning an open-top bus parade on Monday.

Mourinho and Hazard were chosen by a Barclays panel that included
former players and journalists. Also shortlisted for the manager's
award were Ronald Koeman, Garry Monk, Nigel Pearson and Arsene Wenger.

Hazard was selected from a shortlist of eight that also featured his
Chelsea team-mates John Terry, Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic,
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, Manchester United goalkeeper
David de Gea, Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Alexis Sanchez of
Arsenal.

BBC Apologizes Over ‘Incorrect’ Report On Nigerian Restaurant Serving Human Flesh As Meat

The British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, has said a story it ran
last week about a restaurant in Anambra State, Nigeria, where human
flesh is served as meat has been discovered to be false and
inappropriate.

In the report, BBC had said suspicious residents in Anambra told
police about rumours that the restaurant was serving cooked human
flesh as meat to its customers.

It also said when police raided the restaurant, fresh human heads,
still bleeding were discovered in a refrigerator just as blood found
in the restaurant were in the process of being drained into a plastic
bag before the arrival of cops.

The BBC has, however, issued an apology after public outcry especially
from residents of Anambra State and the Nigeria Police, which denied
the existence of any such restaurant in the state.

The corporation said it had already begun investigations to confirm
what led to such publication and will take necessary steps to ensure
such a mistake never occurs again.

"The story about the Nigerian restaurant which we published here frame
a mistake and we apologize. It was incorrect and BBC published without
the proper checks. We have removed the story and have launched an
urgent investigation into how this happened", BBC said.

NATCOM Sacks 400 NITEL, M-Tel Workers

The new owner of the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited, NATCOM
Consortium, has laid off all the workers of the company and its
subsidiary, the Nigerian Mobile Telecommunications Limited, the PUNCH
reports.

Investigation by PUNCH correspondent showed that the workers,
numbering about 400, would leave both companies by the end of this
month.

It was also learnt that the workers had started turning in the assets
of the company in their possession in order to get their terminal
benefits, including the salary for the month of May, pension and
gratuity.

Although the letter of disengagement addressed to each of them was
dated April 30, 2015, the workers started receiving the letters on
Monday. The distribution of the letters continued on Wednesday.

Preparatory to the physical takeover of the assets of the beleaguered
telecommunications companies by the NATCOM Consortium, the workers had
earlier this week begun moving from the Benue Plaza in Abuja, which
has housed the headquarters of the organisations for some years now.

PUNCH correspondent learnt that the movable assets of the companies
would temporarily be warehoused at the NITEL Exchange in the Wuse 2
area of Abuja.

In the letter of termination of employment signed by the liquidator of
the company, Olutola Senbore, the NITEL workers were told that they
could only get their terminal benefits if they handed over all the
company assets in their possession.

Senbore wrote, "As you are aware, the liquidation of the NITEL/M-Tel
has reached the last stage of the process, i.e., the physical handover
of the asset to the buyer of the asset, the NATCOM Consortium, also
known as NATCOM Development Investment Limited.

"The formal handover ceremony took place on Tuesday, 28th of April,
2015. Physical handover will commence from this week and is expected
to last about three weeks, i.e. until 22nd of May, 2015.

"When the physical handover is completed, the services of all members
of staff will no longer be required. Consequently, your service has
been terminated effective from the close of work on 31st of May,
2015."

He added, "Arrangements are being made to pay salaries up to May 2015
and entitlements due to all members of staff-in-post as approved by
the Committee of Inspection.

"Please note that the payment of final entitlement will be subject to
the usual company's rules and regulations, which include the
submission of the company's properties, pass codes, and Intellectual
Right etc. in the possession of workers prior to the payment of the
entitlements."

NATCOM recently emerged the core investor in NITEL and was handed the
company on April 28.

The Head of Public Communications, Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr.
Alex Okoh, told our correspondent that there was no clause in the
Share Purchase Agreement restraining the core investor from sacking
the workers for a period of time.

According to him, NATCOM emerged as a core investor in NITEL/M-Tel
through a liquidation process and not through the usual core investor
sale, adding that it was the latter that placed a restraint on the
core investor from sacking the inherited workers for a period of six
months.

Okoh, however, said that the restraint on the core investor was moral
and a wise business decision, arguing that it would not make any
business sense to sack all the workers as they still had the better
knowledge of the operations of the company.

Investigation by PUNCH correspondent showed that the decision to sack
all the workers must have been taken to avoid any responsibility by
the new owner to them.

It was also learnt that there was a disagreement between the core
investor and the legacy management of the company that led to the
sudden decision to lay off all the workers.

When PUNCH correspondent visited the headquarters of NITEL in Abuja on
Wednesday, a circular was put on the notice board asking the workers
to apply for temporary or permanent positions in a limited number of
vacancies that were declared.

Three areas where vacancies were declared were network engineering,
network operations and functional/general management. Those to occupy
the positions must have at least eight years' experience on related
jobs.

When PUNCH correspondent visited the operational head office of NATCOM
Consortium on Wednesday, the head of the office, who spoke through the
front desk officer, asked him to drop his details and expect a call.
However, the promised call had not come as of the time of filing this
report.

The National Council on Privatisation had in 2013 approved the
privatisation of NITEL and M-Tel through guided liquidation. It also
on November 11, 2013 approved the appointment of Chief Olutola Senbore
as the liquidator of the firms.

Netanyahu Rejects Plan To Separate Palestinians, Israelis On Same Buses

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, on Wednesday ordered the
suspension of a plan to separate Palestinian and Israeli passengers on
buses travelling through the West Bank, few hours after the plan was
put into effect.

Netanyahu ordered that the plan should be shelved after Palestinians
and human rights groups said the move was "racist'' and amounted to
apartheid. He ordered the Defence Minister, Moshe Yaalon, to freeze
the suspension. However, the Israeli lawmakers had also slammed the
move.

Yaalon said the three-month pilot plan, under which Palestinian
travellers would not be allowed on buses being used by the Jewish
settlers, was due to security reasons. He said the decision was taken
as a result of the demand made by the Yesha Council of Jewish
settlements in the West Bank that they fear for their lives whenever
Palestinians board their buses.

The opposition leader, Isaac Herzog, of the centre-left Labour Party
said the plan was a stain on the face of the state and it was a
miserable decision. Under the plan, Palestinians working in Israel and
who had entered into Israel would have been required to return to the
West Bank through the military checkpoint and the new rules would have
made their travel times significantly longer.

Nigerian League Goes On Break

The League Management Company on Wednesday said that the 2014/15 Glo
Premier League would observe a three-week break after its match-day-11
encounters scheduled for May 24.

A press statement signed by LMC said that it would, during the break;
check on various clubs' compliance with the Nigeria Football
Federation clubs certification regulations.

"You may wish to recall that we started the league with blanket —
provisional waiver to the clubs. This will allow them to comply with
all registration requirements before Match Day 9 when a review will be
conducted by the LMC.

"The break period is also a time to revisit club stadium facilities to
remedy observed defects as the clubs have so far operated with
provisional certificates," it said.

The statement also said that the break would be used by the clubs'
managements to acquaint themselves with their respective newly elected
governors, who are owners of the state-run clubs.

According to the statement, the 2014/15 league season will now resume
on June 14 with match day 11 fixtures originally scheduled for May 24.

It assured the clubs, fans and sponsors that the break would not
affect November 15 date when the final games of the season would be
played. It, however, said that the mid-season break for the second
transfer window would now start on July 19 as against the initial July
10 date. It added that the second round games would commence on Aug. 2
with Match Day 20.

FRSC Reveals Real Cost Of Obtaining A Driver's Licence

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Boboye
Oyeyemi, has revealed the real cost of obtaining a driver's licence in
the country.

The Nigerian Tribune reports that, Boboye, while speaking in Abuja,
said the real cost of obtaining a driver's licence from the corp was
N6,350. He made the disclosure on Tuesday, at a one-day workshop
organised by the commission for members of security agencies in the
country on verification procedure of DL and number plates.

The FRSC boss said citizens can get their licences in licencing
offices nationwide, adding that those, who gave other people money and
passports to collect licences for them were doing themselves a lot of
harm.

"Members of the public who give money and passport size photograph to
anybody in order to collect driver's licence are doing disservice to
themselves.

"Going through third party costs more money and produces fake licence
to unsuspecting applicants, which is an offence. Cost of original
driver's licence is N6,350 and the applicant must go for biometrics at
any licensing office across the country to obtain the licence.

"This is safer and costs less compared to the ones that pay third
party for driver's licence and at the end of the day, they will be
apprehended for carrying fake licence," Boboye said.

Boboye also stated that, it was a criminal offence for anyone to carry
fake drivers licence, adding that those found with fakes drivers
licence will be prosecuted.

Various Nigerian have been complaining that the FRSC was charging too
much to get drivers licence. Nigerians pay as much as 15,000 to 17,000
Naira to obtain a drivers licence.

Nigerian Army Apprehends Boko Haram Sponsor

The Nigerian military claimed on May 19, that they had arrested Aliyu
Hussaini, a suspected Boko Haram sponsor, in Bauchi State in the
course of an army raid.

Hussaini, who pretended to be a serving general in the army, was
apprehended by soldiers from 33rd Artillery Brigade.

defrauding innocent citizens in the belief that he was a general in
the Nigerian Army."

Meanwhile, Kashim Shettima, the Borno state governor, yesterday
disclosed that the insurgents were likely to be holding the missing
Chibok girls in Sambisa Forest bunkers. Therefore, he urged the
military to"carry out their operations beyond the surface earth."

Why I Resigned As PDP BOT Chairman — Tony Anenih

Tony Anenih, the latest casualty of the crisis rocking the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) has explained why he decided to resign as
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Party.

Anenih's resignation was made known earlier today, May 20, by the
National Working Committee (NWC) of the Party in a statement which
indicated that the party chieftain resigned from his post on personal
grounds.

However new details in a letter written by Anenih to President
Goodluck Jonathan have revealed the reasons why he decided to throw in
the towel.

According to Premium Times, in the letter dated May 20, 2015 and
titled: Notice of my decision to step down as Chairman, Board of
Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, the party chieftain said his
decision to quit was to enable the president to effectively assume the
chairmanship of the BoT.

He recalled that in an earlier meeting with Jonathan, he indicated his
intention to step down from the office of the Chairman of the party's
Board to pave way for the president to assume the position.

Mr Anenih in the letter also pledged his unflagging loyalty to the
party and promised to continue to pray for the prosperity of Nigeria
and the PDP.

Mr. Anenih's resignation followed a similar decision by the party's
chairman, Adamu Mu'azu, who also stepped down on Wednesdayafter weeks
of running battles with party chieftains who wanted him out due to the
party's abysmal outing in the just concluded election.

Imo Elections Tribunal Adjourns To June 8

There are indications that the elections petitions tribunal sitting in
Owerri, the capital of Imo State, may have adjourned till June 8,
2015.

This development, Nigeria Horn reports will enable all the winners in
2015 general elections to finish their swearing-in ceremonies.

Checks by Midweek Nigerian Horn showed that the tribunal may start
full sitting on June 8, 2015.

One of the cases that came up for hearing Tuesday at the tribunal was
the matter between Hon. Uche Onyeagocha versus Hon Samuel Anyanwu
(Samdaddy), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The counsel to Hon. Onyeagocha brought in a motion seeking the leave
of the court for his client to inspect all the INEC materials used
during the National Assembly elections in Owerri Zone.

However, Onyeagocha's counsel couldn't move the motion because the
counsels to Anyanwu, INEC and PDP vehemently opposed the motion,
arguing that they should be allowed to study the motion so as to
present their counter-motion.

They appealed to the tribunal to grant them the mandatory seven days
in order to reply to the motion.

The tribunal after listening to both parties adjourned the tribunal to
8th of June for further hearing.

Arthur Nzeribe Is In London, Not Dead — Onuegbu

Following the rumoured death of veteran maverick politician and former
senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Francis Arthur
Nzeribe, his principal solicitor, Chief Enyinna Onuegbu, has debunked
the rumour assuring that his client is alive and kicking fine abroad.

According to Horn newspaper, Onuegbu declared that Nzeribe is hale and
hearty in a statement he made available on the septuagenarian's health
condition, stating that the aging politician embarked on a medical
health tour in Europe in a reasonably stable condition where he
currently enjoying his vacation and was not rushed abroad on an air
ambulance as was erroneously published by some local newspapers (not
Nigerian Horn).

He noted that this was not the first time that the rumour about the
demise of Nzeribe will make the rounds in the mass media, stating that
the former senator "is not in a hurry to leave this planet," as the
great Zik of Africa once said when faced with the similar rumours.

"In certain local tabloids of late, news of the alleged ill-health and
near comatose state have been planted severally regarding Senator
Chief Francis Arthur Nzeribe, Ogbuagu, Oshiji Damanze Oyimba Oguta.

"We are therefore constrained to restate that much as Senator Francis
Arthur Nzeribe as a human being is naturally subject to bouts of
indisposition in health, he is presently not in any precarious health
situation as being falsely speculated in the media.

"Senator Francis Arthur Nzeribe recently travelled to London on his
usual premium British Airways first class reserved ticket and never on
an air ambulance.

"He is currently enjoying the holidays at his palatial Mayfield farm
house in Frinton-on-sea England with the loving care of his beloved
wife, Ogbuefi Princess Joan Nzeribe without any scary tale of death
around him or debilitating ill health.

"We therefore urge members of the public to disregard the misleading
news reports while hoping that our avant garde media practitioners
would learn to always obey the time honoured rule "… to always hear
the other side in every story…" "The statement concluded.

Here’s Why My Brother Wants to Kill Me — Emmanuel Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayoris back again with his story. This is the part 3 of
his story. He talked about why his senior brother wanted to kill him
and more.

Read below:

SEA, if I decide to bring out the Part 3 today, it is because my
brother @Kola Adebayor and my other siblings have decided to talk
about our family issues on social medias, through letters to my club,
radios…I could write an autobiography and sell it but I decided to
share with you here.

25 years ago, my big older brother Kola went to Germany and he became
the hope of our family. We all thought he could change the way we were
living. Years after he left Togo, we still had no electricity and no
phones. If he wanted to talk to us, he would call the Atlantic Hotel
that was very close to our house. We would then run to the hotel
reception and talk to him.

When I got the opportunity to go play football in France for the first
time, we needed money to for the flight tickets and other expenses. My
brother was nowhere to be found. Only God knows what he was doing in
Germany.

When I arrived in France, I did all the paperwork with my team and
they allowed me to stay in the academy. A few months later, my brother
wanted to come visit me. I was running out of money and I was living
at the academy. Therefore, I had to borrow money so I could pay for
his hotel. At that time, my teammate Sega N'diaye from Cameroon was
kind enough to lend me some money. I also had to borrow some more
money because I had to give my brother some money for his trip back to
Germany. Keep in mind he is my older brother.

A couple years later, things started to get better. Thank God, I
signed a contract with Metz. Since then, my brother would contact me
whenever it was time to pay his bills. Sometimes, he would say his son
is sick… I had to get used to all this.

Again, I was lucky enough to get an offer from Monaco and I signed for
the football club. One day, Kola and the late Peter Adebayor came to
visit me in Monaco. My two brothers did not let me know they were
coming. Someone said "blood is thicker than water" so I took them in.
They arrived early in the morning and I was on my way to training.
When I came back home, we had a discussion and they wanted to start a
car business. Obviously, it involves a lot of money. I told them that
I could help them out as soon as I get paid next.

At that time, Thierry Mangwa was staying in my apartment because he
was struggling with some personal issues and needed a place to stay.
One day, I came back from training and he was crying. He never told me
why. My brothers could also not explain. Another day, one of my
friends Padjoe came to visit me and as he was leaving the house, I
believe I offered him about €500. My brother Kola noticed that and was
very upset. He was trying to understand why I gave my friend some
money right away but not him. My reason was very simple; the money he
(Kola) needed was a huge amount of money that I did not carry in my
house. We went on and had an argument about it.

Another day, after training…I was very tired and decided to go take a
nap. I woke up and a knife was held to my throat. As I opened my eyes,
both of my brothers were there. They were shouting and they claimed
that I was wasting their time. Peter was going mad and Kola was
supporting. I asked them: "Is this the only way to solve this issue? I
yes, then kill me and take the money". It's only at that moment that
he put the knife down. After all this, I found a way out of my own
apartment and I called my parents. My mom suggested that I call the
police. That was the only way for me to get back into my house safely…
I had training the next day, by the way. So I did what my mom said.
Police came and they settled down. Again, "blood is thicker than
water", so I let it go. A few days after, Peter went to visit one of
Kola's friends in Paris. That means I was left in the house with Kola;
for my own safety, I found a way to get him the money as soon as I
could. Only God knows how much I gave him that day.

A few months after all this, I went back to Togo and I was surprised
when my mom started to ask me why I called the police on my brothers,
she continued and said I am the bad person in the family.

President Jonathan’s Cousins Abducted By Gunmen In Bayelsa

Patience Egbeni and Kate Eni, two cousins of President Goodluck
Jonathan, have been abducted by gunmen at Akimpelai, Ogbia local
government area of Bayelsa State.

It is believed that they were abducted from their provision stores
along the riverbank and subsequently forced into a waiting speedboat
from where they were taken away.

A source who reportedly revealed the kidnapping, said: "The victims
are two maternal cousins of the President. We know that they have been
preparing to welcome the President after the May 29 handover. Unless
they are rescued before then, their dream of welcoming their brother
will be a mirage."

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Butswat Asinim, confirmed
the development, saying: "The gunmen were dressed in military
camouflage. They went to the provision stores of the victims at the
riverside and abducted them into a waiting speedboat."

Amaechi Has Lost His Mind: “Strange To Say $20bn Missing From Account” — Okonjo-Iweala

The Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi okonjo-Iweala, said it was strange
for the Governors Forum to allege that 20 billion dollars were missing
from the Excess Crude Account (ECA).

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Paul Nwabuikwu,
spokesman for the Minister, in Abuja on Tuesday.

The statement said there was no basis for the forum to demand that the
minister should account for such money from June 2013 to April 2015.

"The statement by the governors is totally strange because Federal
Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), meets every month and the ECA is
discussed at every session with all the state commissioners of finance
present.

"Nothing is hidden. At these meetings, the Minister of State who is
the Chairman of FAAC, announces the balance in the ECA which is then
discussed.

"So, governors who want any information about the ECA should ask for
details from their commissioners who should have the records of what
was discussed and agreed upon", it said.

According to the statement, details of the ECA are also published
every month along with the allocations to the three tiers of
government.

It added that the reference to June 2013 was immaterial as FAAC
meetings during which the ECA and similar issues were discussed held
every month.

The statement said Gov. Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, who was reported to
have read the communique on behalf of the governors, made a similar
unsubstantiated allegation in Nov. 2013.

According to the statement, he alleged in Nov. 2013 that 5 billion
dollars were missing from the ECA.

"We subsequently showed with facts that not only was the amount not
missing, Rivers received N257.6 billion from the Federation Account
between January and October 2013.

It assured that ministry of finance in the interest of transparency
and accountability would publish the details of the ECA for the last
four years in a couple of days.

FG Directs Bayelsa CJ To Swear In Wike As Rivers State Gov

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohmamed
Adoke, SAN, has directed the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice
Kate Abiri, to swear in Rivers State Governor-elect, Nyesom Wike, on
May 29.

In a statement issued by his office and personally signed by him,
Adoke said the request became necessary because of the existing vacuum
in the Office of the Chief Judge of Rivers State, as well as the
Office of President of the Customary Court of Appeal in the state.

He explained that because of the vacuum, compliance with requirements
of section 185 (1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution under which Wike
should be sworn in has been made impossible.

Adoke noted that the directive to the Bayelsa Chief Judge to swear in
Wike in accordance with Section 185 (2) of the constitution was to
avert a likely constitutional crisis in the state

Adoke said: "Section 185 (2) of the constitution states that 'the Oath
of Allegiance and the Oath of Office shall be administered by the
Chief Judge of the state or Grand Khadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal
of the state, if any, or President of the Customary Court of Appeal of
the state, if any, or the person for the time being respectively
appointed to exercise the functions of any of those offices in any
state.

"The general public, particularly the government and people of Rivers
State, are hereby invited to take note of this development and
appreciate the fact that the invitation extended to the Chief Judge of
Bayelsa State to administer the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office
on the Governor-elect of Rivers State on May 29, 2015 is in accordance
with the Constitution and should therefore be respected by all and
sundry.

Benue Rep-Elect Loses Seat, Faces Prosecution Over Forgery

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National
Electoral Commission to nullify the Certificate of Return issued to
Christian Abah for the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency
seat in the House of Representatives at the forthcoming 8th National
Assembly. The PUNCH reports.

Justice Adeniyi Ademola, delivering judgment in the suit, challenging
Abah's eligibility to stand for the election, held that the allegation
of certificate forgery levelled against him by the plaintiff, Mr.
Hassan Saleh, had been established to be true.

Abah was said to have forged an Ordinary National Diploma certificate
in Accountancy, purportedly obtained from the Federal Polytechnic,
Mubi, in 1985.

Justice Ademola said his findings revealed that an earlier judgment of
the National/State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, sitting in
Makurdi, delivered on September 6, 2011, and a letter by the Registrar
of the polytechnic, Mr. Suleiman Buba, affirmed that the certificate
presented by Abah to INEC was forged.

The court ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase,
to immediately commence prosecution of Abah for forgery and perjury.

Abah, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, had earlier
been declared unopposed and elected being the only candidate presented
for the March 28, 2015 election.

The court, in his judgment, declared all the votes that accrued to
him in the PDP's primary, held on December 6, 2014, as wasted and also
declared Saleh, who came second as the winner of the primary.

He ordered INEC to issue a fresh Certificate of Return to Saleh.

The court also ordered the incoming Speaker of the 8th National
Assembly to swear in Saleh as the member representing
Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency.

The court also berated the conduct of the counsel for PDP and Abah in
the suit, Mr. S.I Ameh (SAN), for the frivolous applications and
tactics to delay the hearing of the case.

Justice Ademola therefore ordered that the processes filed in the suit
and his judgment be served on the Nigerian Bar Association, the Legal
Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, the Legal Practitioners
Privileges Committee with a view of taking appropriate sanctions
against Ameh.

The judge also imposed a N450,000 fine on the three defendants - the
PDP, INEC and Abah in favour of the plaintiff.

The court berated both the INEC and PDP for promoting "the culture of
impunity" by their failure to disqualify Abah from participating in
the election in view of the court judgment that had since 2011
affirmed that he (Abah) presented a forged certificate for the purpose
of standing for an election.

The incoming Muhammadu Buhari government of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) will tinker with the current status of some agencies in
the country, IT Edge news reports.

"There is no money. Cost saving has become imperative if the APC must
fulfill its obligation to the Nigerian people." an APC economic
strategist reportedly said.

The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Nigeria's publicly owned
broadcast organization will be merged with the Federal Radio
Corporation of Nigeria and Voice of Nigeria.

All separate entities will be fused into the Federal Corporation
Broadcasting of Nigeria as recommended more than three years ago by

FG Upgrades "Alvan Ikoku College Of Education" To "Alvan Ikoku University Of Education, Owerri"

The Federal Executive Councilon Wednesdayapproved the conversion of
four federal colleges of education to universities.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the council, presided over by
President Goodluck Jonathan.

Minister of Information, Patricia Akwashiki, and Minister of
Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, briefed State House correspondents of the
meeting's outcome.

Shekarau listed the affected colleges of education as Adeyemi College
of Education, Ondo (now Adeyemi University of Education, Ondo);
Federal College of Education, Zaria (now Federal University of
Education, Zaria); Federal College of Education, Kano (now Federal
University of Education, Kano); and Alvan Ikoku College of Education,
Owerri (now Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Owerri).

The minister explained that the colleges of education were part of the
21 federal colleges of education that had been awarding degree
programmes in the last three decades under the close supervision of
the different universities they are affiliated to.

He said the council considered the need for further quality in
teaching service, hence the conversion of the colleges to universities
since more graduates would be needed in the teaching profession.

"We are heading to having more graduates in the teaching profession
and hence the need for these universities to produce graduates in
education. If we need quality education, we need quality teachers," he
said.

Shekarau explained that the next step was for the Ministry of Justice
to prepare amendment to the laws establishing the colleges.

This, he explained, would be followed by some administrative changes.

The minister added that the council had approved the establishment of
the Federal University of Health Sciences in Otukpo, Benue State.

Until the approval, the university was said to be the College of
Medical Health Sciences under the Federal University of Agriculture,
Makurdi.

He said the institution had now been granted autonomy as part of
continuous efforts to ensure quality graduates into the various fields
of medicine and sciences.

"So, a total of five universities were approved at the council meeting
today," the minister added.

Anambra PDP Candidates Withdraw Petition, Supports Obiano

Twenty-One candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who lost
the April 11 House of Assembly election in Anambra State, have
withdrawn their petition from the Election Petition Tribunal.

After the PDP candidates withdrew the case, they pledged to support
Governor Willie Obiano's administration.

They had lost to the candidates of the All Progressive Grand Alliance
(APGA) the same party that the Governor belongs to.

The PDP candidates said their action was in the spirit of moving the
state forward, citing the exemplary approach of President Goodluck
Jonathan in conceding defeat to the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari,
as their inspiration.

Receiving the 21 man delegation at the Governor's Lodge, Awka, the
Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, commended their resolve to sheathe
their swords saying, they have done noble in placing the interest of
the state above their personal gains.

The Leader of the delegation and former House of Assembly member,
Honorable Egwuoyibo Okoye, added that distracting the governor in the
tribunal would slow down the pace of development in the state.

PDP National Chairman, Adamu Muazu Resigns

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu
Muazu, has resigned.

His resignation, according to him, is due to health issues.

The Spokesman for the PDP, Olisa Metuh, told Channels Television that
Mr Muazu turned in his letter of resignation and that his decision had
been accepted by the party's National Working Committee.

Mr Muazu had been the chairman for about a year, after he took over
from Mr Bamanga Tukur who stepped down under intense party crisis.

Before his resignation, there were reports that the National Chairman
of the PDP, Adamu Muazu, who before now was addressed as "the game
changer", may have jetted out of the countryto evade being forced to
convene a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the
party, where he may be asked to resign.

Mr Muazu has been under intense pressure to quit his position as the
party Chairman following the PDP's poor showing in the March and April
2015 general elections.

The party's leadership had blamed the state governors elected on the
platform of the PDP, and some other leaders, for its electoral
failure.

Yale University Honours Okonjo-Iweala For Fighting Corruption, Fiscal Transparency

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy Dr.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has received an honorary Doctorate degree from
Yale University one of the United State of America's most prestigious
institutions of higher learning.

The Minister was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters at Yale's 2015
Commencement Ceremony in New Haven, Connecticut Monday.

She is the second Nigerian in the university's 314-year history to
receive its highest honour after Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka who
received an honorary Doctor of Letters in 1980.

Giving out the award, the President of the University Professor Peter
Salovey described Okonjo-Iweala as "a brilliant reformer and dedicated
public servant."

He said that Minister "has spearheaded efforts to stabilize and grow
Nigeria's economy, battling widespread government corruption and
creating greater fiscal transparency and discipline."

Yale's honorary doctorate degree is seen globally as a very important honour.

According to the institution "those who have received honorary degree
are scholars, public servants, Nobel Prize winners and heads of
states.

"Collectively, they represent the aspirations of this institution.
Yale honorary degree recipients serve as models of excellence and
service to our students, to our graduates, to our community and to the
world," the institution says.

As Finance Minister in 2004, Okonjo-Iweala and the economic team that
she led helped Nigeria obtain debt relief, wiping out $30 billion of
Paris club debt, leading to a tripling of the growth rates.

The second time around as Finance Minister in 2011, Okonjo-Iweala has
focused on building solid foundations and institutions critical for
the survival and sustenance of the economy. She bravely fought
corruption in governance with fierce dedication and unflagging energy.

Okonjo-Iweala was honored alongside the Chair of the Board of
Governors of US Federal Reserve System Janet Yellen, world renowned
Beninoise Singer and songwriter Angelique Kidjo, University Professor
and founding member of the Institute for Comparative Literature and
Society at Columbia University Gayatari Chakravorty Spivak, Professor
and Director of the Starr Center for Human Genetics at Rockefeller
University Jeffrey Michael Friedman, Inventors and Entrepreneurs Elon
Musk and Dean Kamen, etc.

Yale had in the past honored a handful of other Africans such as
Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Imo Guber Poll: Ihedioha Files Petition Against Okorocha's Victory

Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo
State and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka
Ihedioha, at the weekend, filed a petition before the Election
Petition Tribunal in Owerri, challenging the re-election of Governor
Rochas Okorocha.

In the suit with Number EPT/IM/GOV/3/2015, filed against Okorocha, the
All Progressives Congress (APC) and 35 other respondents, Ihedioha
insisted that the election was flawed by violence, intimidation,
widespread malpractices and partisanship on the part of the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ihedioha, through his lead counsel, Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN), is
praying the court to declare him winner of the election or
alternatively, cancel the election and conduct a fresh governorship
poll in Imo State.

He pointed out that the electoral process was fraught with
substantial non-compliance particularly the extensive infringement of
paragraph 28 of the guidelines for the 2015 election by declaring
results on votes obtained without accreditation or in excess of
accredited voters.

The PDP candidate alleged total breach of the principle of neutrality
embedded in the Electoral Act as, "flagrantly" perpetrated by INEC
staff and agents.

He urged the tribunal to order the governor-elect to return the
Certificate of Return issued to him by INEC.
