Nigerian Soldier Tests Positive For Ebola

A Nigerian soldier, who is servingon the United Nations' peace mission,
has tested positive for the deadly Ebola infection in Liberia and is
to be flown to the Netherlands for treatment.

The University Medical Center Utrecht will quarantine the soldier at a
"calamity unit," The Nation reports.

According to a Dutch Health Ministry spokeswoman, Inge Freriksen, the
peace-worker will be flown to the capital, Amsterdam, and then carried
to the city of Utrecht.

The UN mission declared Nigerian soldier had tested positive for the
dreaded disease a day earlier.

The infected soldier had been a member of the United Nations Mission
in Liberia (UNMIL), which has been stationed in Liberia since 2003 to
restore peace and stability to the violence-ravaged country after two
deadly civil wars.

This is the third case of deadly virus among mission staff, according
to Karin Landgren, a top UN envoy in the country. The previous two
cases were fatal.

The mission has so far known 16 people who came into contact with the
trooper, and they have been isolated, she said.

Areas the Nigerian visited while symptomatic have been decontaminated.

He will be the first Ebola patient treated in the Netherlands.

Only recently, doctors have announced that the first test of Ebola
vaccine in human shows it's safe and appears to be working as
designed.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared Nigeria officially free
of Ebola on October 20 after six weeks (42 days) with no new cases.

A small outbreak, with a total of twenty cases, occurred in Nigeria
during this year.

Nwobodo's Other Sons Move Elder Brother's Corpse To Unknown Location, Disrupt Burial

It was a show of shame yesterday, which left not a few people shocked
at the burial of the late Dr Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, the first son of
former civilian governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Ifeanyichukwu
Nwobodo, scheduled to hold yesterday in Enugu State, as the deceased's
corpse was nowhere to be found.

The younger Nwobodo died on November 16 of cancer.

Leadership Weekend reports that two younger brothers of the deceased
(Chukwudi and Uso) kept the corpse away from the reach of anybody when
it became apparent that their father was adamant on interring the
remains of his first son within the compound of a new bungalow he
built in his honour.

It was also gathered that Chukwudi and Uso, Jim's surviving two sons
from Mukosolu, his first wife, argued that if their elder brother was
buried outside their father's expansive house at Amaechi Awkunanaw,
they could be denied the right to inherit the family house.

After waiting and following unsuccessful attempts to broker peace
between the former governor and his two sons, several dignitaries
including the deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, Senator Gil
Nnaji, Dr Nnia Nwodo and former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter
Obi, left the venue of the burial disappointed.

It was gathered that before yesterday's embarrassing incident,
concerned elders of Amaechi Awkunanaw community had pleaded with the
Nwobodos to resolve their differences amicably to no avail.

When Chief Nwobodo reportedly concluded plans to bury his late son
outside the family compound to the disapproval of his two other sons,
they secretly drove to the mortuary and removed the corpse of their
late elder brother to an unknown place.

ICC Withdraws Uhuru Kenyatta Charges

Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta has denounced the case against him at
the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has now been dropped,
calling it "obviously deficient" and a "travesty".

Mr Kenyatta said he felt "vindicated" that crimes against humanity
charges had been withdrawn.

He had been indicted in connection with post-election ethnic violence
in Kenya in 2007-08, in which 1,200 people died.

Prosecutors said the Kenyan government had impeded their investigation.

They accused it of refusing to hand over documentary evidence vital to
the case and said potential witnesses had been threatened and
intimidated.

'Bribed'

Mr Kenyatta said he was "excited" and "relieved" that the case was over.

"My conscience is absolutely clear," he said, adding that his case had
been "rushed there without proper investigation".

"Just as the ICC failed me, it has also failed the victims of the
2007-2008 post-election violence," Mr Kenyatta said.

"They were killed, maimed, displaced, dispossessed and utterly
traumatised. I have been victimised, libelled and senselessly profiled
by the same defective process."

Kenyan Foreign Minister Amina Mohamed said her government would try to
have two other similar cases thrown out including one involving Deputy
President William Ruto.

Supporters of Mr Kenyatta took to the streets of Nairobi to celebrate

Mr Kenyatta said he had been victimised by the ICC and was relieved it
was now over

"As they say, one case down, two more to go," Mr Kenyatta said on Twitter.

He has denied inciting ethnic violence following the disputed 2007
elections in order to secure victory for then-President Mwai Kibaki.

Mr Kenyatta won Kenya's presidential elections in 2013 with the
backing of Mr Kibaki, rallying nationalist support by accusing the
Dutch-based court of meddling in Kenya's affairs.

Over the last six years, ICC cases have become a political chess game
in Kenya. When Uhuru Kenyatta and one-time rival William Ruto joined
forces to win elections last year, they decided to play the issue to
their advantage.

The bitter rivalry between their communities, which often degenerated
into violent clashes, was forgotten. The two had a clear message, one
of galvanising the country to forgive and forget the past.

But the overriding factor was that they were victims of an
international process - as Mr Ruto, too, was accused of orchestrating
the violence that followed the elections in 2007 when they had been on
opposing sides.

With the dropping of the charges against Mr Kenyatta, some of the
victims may feel it makes a mockery of justice.

But the two politicians are sticking together. Deputy President
William Ruto tweeted: "The truth has set you free," and Mr Kenyatta
called him "indispensable", saying he looked "forward to the day when
we shall not have the distractions of the trials, so that we can
continue delivering our transformational agenda to the people of
Kenya".

However, this romance is glued together by the ICC, and analysts say
if Mr Ruto is not vindicated by the court, where his trial is ongoing,
then a political storm may determine the future of Kenya.

He was the first head of state to appear before the court, after he
was charged in 2012.

The prosecution repeatedly asked for more time to build its case,
saying witnesses had been bribed and intimidated, and the Kenyan
government had refused to hand over documents vital to the case.

On Wednesday, the ICC gave prosecutors a week to decide whether to
pursue their case or withdraw charges, saying further delays would be
"contrary to the interests of justice".

But on Friday prosecutors said the evidence had "not improved to such
an extent that Mr Kenyatta's alleged criminal responsibility can be
proven beyond reasonable doubt".

The BBC's Anna Holligan in The Hague said the decision was a huge blow
to prosecutors.

Many observers had seen the case against Mr Kenyatta as the biggest
test in the court's history, she says.

Mr Kenyatta (l) said he would now try to have the case against his
deputy, William Ruto (r), dropped

About 600,000 people were forced to flee their homes in the
post-election violence

The main prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, made plain her dismay at having
to withdraw charges, saying there had been "a steady and relentless
stream of false media reports... an unprecedented campaign on social
media to expose the identity of protected witnesses [and] concerted
and wide-ranging efforts to harass, intimidate and threaten
individuals who would wish to be witnesses".

She said the case had required the help of the Kenyan government, but
this was "not provided".

Ebola Crisis: Nigerian Medics Deploying To Sierra Leone

About 100 Nigerian medical workers are expected to arrive in Sierra
Leone to help with the response to the outbreak of the deadly Ebola
virus.

The workers, who include doctors, scientists and hygienists, have been
trained by the medical aid agency, MSF.

It came a day after residents in the Guinean capital, Conakry,
protested about the construction of an Ebola treatment clinic in their
district.

The Ebola outbreak has killed more than 6,000 people in West Africa this year.

The Nigerian medical workers are the first part of a contingent of
about 250 specialists the West African country is deploying to the
three countries worst hit by Ebola - Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea.

The workers are expected to stay for between three and six months,
Nigerian officials say.

The BBC international development correspondent, Mark Doyle, says it
is a reminder that although richer countries and the big aid agencies
have been giving crucial help, Africans are very much part of the
fight against Ebola too.

According to the World Health Organization, Ebola transmission remains
intense in Sierra Leone

The Nigerian commitment is part of an African Union promise to send
1,000 medical workers to Ebola-hit areas by the end of this year.

Malaria warning

The deployments come amid a UN warning that people infected with
malaria in Sierra Leone are sometimes not seeking care for fear of
being shunned as suspected Ebola cases.

Medical experts say the symptoms of both diseases can be similar in
their early stages and there are also fears that some people are being
referred unnecessarily to Ebola treatment centres.

There are sanitary checkpoints in Sierra Leone where temperatures are
checked and people wash their hands

The UN agency, Unicef, has said it will supply anti-malarial drugs to
about 2.4 million people in Sierra Leone.

Under the programme, thousands of community health workers will go
door-to-door in districts where the risk of Ebola is highest to
administer anti-malarial tablets to everyone aged six months and
above.

"This campaign will benefit the fight against both malaria and Ebola,"
said Unicef local representative Roeland Monasch, by reducing cases of
malaria, easing the strain on the health system and allowing true
cases of Ebola to be treated.

Ebola virus disease (EVD)

*.Symptoms include high fever, bleeding and central nervous system damage

*.Spread by body fluids, such as blood and saliva

*.Fatality rate can reach 90% - but current outbreak has mortality
rate of about 70%

*.Incubation period is two to 21 days

*.There is no proven vaccine or cure

*.Supportive care such as rehydrating patients who have diarrhoea and
vomiting can help recovery

*.Fruit bats, a delicacy for some West Africans, are considered to be
virus's natural host

On Thursday, people in the Yimbaya district of the Guinean capital,
Conakry, staged protests about the construction of an Ebola treatment
centre, fearing it may spread disease in their neighbourhood.

The project is being funded by the French government, which has said
it will help fight Ebola in Conakry and benefit local residents.

Similar protests took place two months ago in another district, Kaporo
Rail, where the centre had been initially planned to be built.

Meanwhile, a clinic in the German city of Frankfurt said a Ugandan
doctor it had treated for Ebola was free of the disease and had been
released last month.

The doctor, who had been working in Sierra Leone, had undergone seven
weeks of intensive treatment in an isolation ward.

Imo APC Governorship Primaries Suspended Because Of Me --Ihedioha

Deputy speaker, Federal House of Representatives, Honourable Emeka
Ihedioha has attributed the suspension of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Imo State, which was slated
to hold Wednesday, to fears by the party that he was a strong
contender for the governorship seat of the state.

Ihedioha who stated this yesterday at the closing ceremony of a 3 day
workshop organised for journalists in the state, averred that the
opposition party see him as the most popular and acceptable aspirant
among others in the race.

The deputy speaker, who expressed optimism that he would be victorious
in the forthcoming governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP), added that he is the most qualified for the position
following his track record of achievements for the party as well as
the goodwill of residents of the state.

"I will win the PDP governorship primaries, because I am the most
prepared. Today, I am the reason why APC is not having their
governorship primaries.

Bill Cosby Counter-Sues an Accuser, Claims Attempted Extortion

Bill Cosby's lawyer is continuing his smear campaign against those who
have accused the comedian of sexual assault. Cosby's attorney Martin
Singer is now claiming one of the accusers attempted to extort money
from Cosby and sell her story before filing suit, The Associated
Pressreports.

Judy Huth filed a lawsuitagainst Cosby on Tuesday alleging that he
sexually abused her in 1974 when she was only 15. Huth says Cosby gave
her and a friend alcohol and brought them to the Playboy mansion where
he attempted to put his hand down her pants and took her hand and
performed a sex act on himself.

The latest on Bill Cosby
Singer filed a counter-suit on Thursday seeking to dismiss Huth's
lawsuit on the grounds that it was only filed after she attempted to
extort $100,000 from Cosby in exchange for her silence one month ago.
As more women came forward, Huth allegedly raised the amount to
$250,000.

The filing also claims that Huth unsuccessfully tried to sell her
story ten years ago, but no one was willing to pay. Singer also put
Huth's filing under fire since it didn't include a certification from
a psychologist confirming the psychological trauma resulting from the
incident was newly discovered, as her filing states.

Cosby is now seeking over $33,000 from Huth and her attorney.

Sri Lankan Woman Murdered By Husband For Dating A Nigerian Billionaire In Victoria Island Lagos

Few weeks ago, a woman was set on fire at 1004 Estate in VI area of
Lagos by her jealous husband.

The Muslim woman identified as Maryam was murdered by her hubby out of
jealous and anger after she confessed to him.

According to the ELITES, the Sri Lankan doused his wife with a highly
combustible incendiary and set her aglow with a match. It was gathered
that the normally highly regarded and unobtrusive company Director,
who occupied an apartment on Block D5 of the highbrow 1004 Victoria
Island Estate, had heard stories of his wife, Maryam, having an affair
with a wealthy Nigerian businessman, who had been showering her with
expensive gifts.

Initially, the Sri Lankan was reported to have doubted the story, but
he later put his wife to task and she confessed to her affair with the
rich Nigerian. The husband was said to have taken his wife to the
Ikoyi Club on a date, and this exposure may have led to the crime. The
enraged husband, having tortured and obtained the confession from his
wife and ensuring he had made an audio-video recording of the
confession, committed the dastardly crime, realising full well that
the confession would mean a reprieve for him in Sri Lanka.

The couple lived on the third floor of the D5 Block. Ironically, this
is the same floor where popular Island Big Girl and Club owner, Suzie
Q was murdered by her lover in 2012.

Sources disclosed that when plumes from the smoke of the fire were
noticed from the couple's apartment, some neighbours had dashed out
from their apartments to find the woman ablaze. They were reported to
have made several spirited efforts in saving the woman's life.

They had called several ambulance services including Lagos State
Ambulance Service (LASEMBUS), stationed at The Palms in Oniru Estate.
But when it appeared that no response was forthcoming after 40
minutes, the neigbours decided to rush the woman to the hospital by
themselves. It was gathered that the four different hospitals that
they visited, refused to accept the woman for treatment. The neigbours
then proceeded to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where she
was eventually admitted. Sadly though, she died four days later.

The ELITES gathered that when the police visited the murder scene the
next day, so as to carry out a Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), the
Sri Lankan businessman had absconded. The police were reported to have
pinned a notice on the apartment door, requesting the suspect to
report at the station. However, when the police went back the next
day, they discovered the request note had been removed. As it is, no
one seems to know the whereabout of the suspect.

The tragic incident is said to have sent many tongues wagging at Ikoyi
Club. The elitist club is gathered to have been shamed by the scandal,
which tended to portray it as a melting pot for adulterous
relationships. Meanwhile, the multimillionaire lover boy, was said to
have taken off, to chill out, at his seaside Spanish Villa in Servile.

The popular businessman, who is in his late 60's, is said to be
unperturbed and unabashed by the dust raised by the scandal. Sources,
who are privy to the happenings in his life, disclosed that he had,
himself been dealt the same blow when he caught his wife having an
affair with a family friend in London.

Ogun Deputy Gov. Formally Defects To SDP, Promises to Send Amosun Packing

The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Segun Adesegun, on Thursday
declared his interest to unseat his boss, incumbent Governor Ibikunle
Amosun, and his defection to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, ahead
of the 2015 general elections

Mr. Adesegun defected to SDP from the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The deputy governor, who wrote a stinker to Gov. Amosun, highlighting
all the maltreatment against him, declared that what mattered to him
now was moving the state forward by leading the people aright.

Adesegun explained that the conflict between him and Mr. Amosun dated
to their pre-swearing in ceremony in 2011.

He also described his decision to send Mr. Amosun packing from the
Oke-Mosan Government House, Abeokuta, as personal.

He further revealed that the people have been calling on him to
contest but not until he was convinced fit for the job, he had been
turning down the request.

He, however, clarified that his joining a different party did not mean
he would abandon his statutory duties as deputy governor of the state.

Mr. Adesegun further disclosed that all the requests he made in a
letter to the State House of Assembly on his relationship with
Governor Amosun had not been met.

"I don't regret serving in the administration of Amosun", he said,
adding that "In life, there is always a challenge. It's a challenge
and life goes on".

He dismissed the issues raised in his letter as inconsequential,
insisting that his decision to contest the governorship election of
the state was based on more fundamental issues.

He explained that his decision to contest would not have been
different even if the requests had been met.

While pointing out that he had not yet been chosen as the flag bearer
of SDP for the 2015 election, he assured the people of executing to
the letter, the manifesto of the party if he succeeds in picking the
party's governorship ticket.

Tambuwal, Ambode, Others Win APC Governorship Ticket

FOR the All Progressives Congress the 2015 contests got underway on
Thursday with state chapters electing their governorship candidates.

The APC governorship candidates for the 2015 polls, as they emerged on
Thursday, include Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu
Tambuwal (Sokoto); a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants
of Nigeria and public administrator, Akinwunmi Abode(Lagos); a former
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna);
and second-term-seeking governors, Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun); Abdulfattah
Ahmed (Kwara) and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo).

Others are, a member representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal
Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Dakuku Peterside
(Rivers); Olorogun O'tega Emerhor (Delta); Chief Okey Ezea (Enugu); a
former Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Mr. Umana Umana
(Akwa Ibom), Ibrahi Gaidam (Yobe), Umaru Al-Makura (Nasarawa) and
Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara).

For one, hardly was any of the outcome of the state primaries a
surprise as the candidates that emerged in states like Lagos, Sokoto,
Kaduna and some others all match predictions by pundits.

In Lagos State for instance, Akinwunmi Ambode, who defeated 12 other
aspirants, had remained in public discourse as the anointed candidate
of Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos and a national leader and
financier of the APC.

Though he has worked for the state for several years and in fact
reputed to be the brains behind the awesome internal revenue being
generated by the state today, Ambode obviously lacks requisite
political experience to singly defeat some of his co-aspirants.

Those defeated by Ambode included the Speaker of the Lagos State House
of Assembly for the past eight years, Adeyemi Ikuforiji; and serving
senator representing Lagos West in the National Assembly, Ganiyu
Olanrewaju Solomon.

The other aspirants that lost to Ambode in the high politics of
Thursday at the Onikan Stadium are: a former Attorney General and
Commissioner for Justice, Olasupo Sasore, said to be a favourite of
the outgoing Governor Babatunde Fashola; a former Commissioner for
Health, Leke Pitan; an incumbent Commissioner for Works, Obafemi
Hamzat; a former aide to Tinubu, Mr. Tayo Ayinde; Mr. Adekunle Disu,
Mr. Wahab Tokunbo, Mr. Olanrewaju Ope and a former Commissioner for
Rural Affairs, Mr. Tola Kasali.

Curiously, both Fashola and Tinubu were absent at the Onikan primaries
as of the time of this report late Thursday though delegates were
still hopeful that Tinubu would still appear at the venue.

PUNCH correspondent saw the governor's convoy drove past the venue and
ascend the Third Mainland Bridge around 11am.

Sources told PUNCH correspondent that the governor was not happy with
the conduct of the primaries.

One of the aspirants, who asked not to be named, said, "The way things
are going, there may be mass defection from this party as even the
governor might leave soon. Tinubu has emasculated all of us, including
Fashola who is not even being given a say.

"We planned to shun the primaries in protest after the party refused
to postpone it following our request but we all agreed to come so that
we can observe it properly in case the matter is taken to court. In
any case, the dubious manner in which the state congress was carried
out is already at a Federal High Court so there is a high possibility
that the result of this event will be nullified.

"Only Tinubu has the list of the delegates and most of us were not
able to reach out to them. This is most unfortunate."
Sokoto

In Sokoto, Speaker Aminu Tambuwal's defection from the Peoples
Democratic Party had apparently been negotiated and the APC
governorship ticket is the prize.

Tambuwal polled 3,466 votes to emerge tops ahead of four other contenders.

Others with their respective votes include Professor Lawal Bashir (0),
Yusha'u Ahmed Kebbe (13), Senator Umaru Dahiru Tambawal (23) and
Jibrin Bello Gada(0)

The primaries were held at the Giginya Memorial Stadium with over
3,000 delegates from across the 23 local governments and a total of
244 wards.

Declaring the result before INEC officials, delegates and agents of
the aspirants, Chairman of the four-man electoral panel, Bolaji
Khalil, said, having successfully conducted the governorship primaries
and by the power conferred on him by the party' headquarters,
pronounced Tambuwal as the winner.

A total of 10 invalid votes were recorded at the exercise which lasted hours.

The Speaker attributed his victory to Allah and commended the
dedication and peaceful conduct of the electoral panel under Bolaji
Khalil.

How Imo PDP Assembly Candidates Emerged, As Losers Demand Refund From Delegates

Even though the House of Assembly Primaries of the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP in Imo state has come and gone, as the winners click
glasses of champagne, the losers are counting their loses.

While the primaries went clean and fair in most of the twenty seven
LGAs in Imo State, the "rigging" could only be blamed on the Delegate
election which produced the voters.

But for the primaries proper it was unlike a PDP affair as the
exercise went freely without rancour in all the LGAs, which proved
Book Makers wrong, because there were apprehensions that the exercise
could not come and go without Guns booming and casualties recorded.

In Ngor Okpala LGA, the exercise could not last more than one hour, as
all the Aspirants saw how it went, without a whimper from any of them.
Mr Obinna Egu won.

The story was the same in every of the LGAs. However, what was
witnessed was upsets in places ordinarily perceived to be political
catchment areas of some big politicians in the state.

Another development was from aggrieved Aspirants who lost the election
after they allegedly paid huge sums of money to the Delegates.

Trumpeta learnt that from party officials to Delegates, nobody is left
out in this business of extorting money from the desperate Aspirants.

This Newspaper learnt that Aspirants who lost the primaries have now
formed Pressure Groups in the various LGAs, demanding refunds from
Delegates who could not vote for them after collecting sums ranging
from one hundred thousand naira (N 100,000).

Trumpeta was told that some of the Delegates have started returning
the funds they collected from the Aspirants.

Delegates from Ahiazu and Aboh Mbaise, Ngor Okpala, Obowo, Orlu etc
had returned money yesterday to some of the red-eyed Aspirants who are
ready to vent their spleens on the "Treacherous Delegates" whom they
now see as enemies to their victories.

A particular Delegate who asked that Bible be brought for him to swear
that he voted for a particular candidate was shocked when six
Aspirants whom he collected money from confronted him at the same time
in a hotel room in Owerri on Sunday.

The question was; since you collected money from six Aspirants and one
of them pooled zero, which then did you vote for?

The Delegate narrowly escaped lynching but promised to return all the
monies by 1pm today.

An LGA chairman from one of the LGAs in Owerri zone is said to have
gone into hiding since Saturday evening as one of the Aspirants is
search for him with armed thugs. The said party Boss has deserted his
home at New Owerri as he was alleged to have collected Two Million
Naira N2m from one of the Aspirants, promising that he would be
"adopted". Unfortunately, the Aspirant garnered three votes out of ten
contestants.

Sources said that with the latest action exhibited by the Assembly
Aspirants, the subsequent elections will task the Delegates, as they
will be careful in collecting money randomly from Aspirants without
voting.

Meanwhile, from the Assembly primary election results, it seems the
former governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim is having an upper
hand, as his "Boys" coasted home to victory across the three zones of
Imo state.

However, the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha suffered shock as
his "Men" lost in areas perceived to be Ihedioha's "Territory".

For instance, one of his Campaign Directors, Mr Kelvin Agbaegbu lost
in Ahiazu Mbaise, to Mr Ken Agbim, while in Aboh Mbaise, Ihedioha's
home LGA, Hon Mike Iheanetu, Special Adviser to Prof Viola Onwuliri,
Ohakim's Deputy in the 2011 election, trounced Ihedioha's "candidate".

Senator Hope Uzodinma is holding tight to Orlu zone, even though
Ohakim's "Boy" Peter Okorie defeated Chief Elvis Agukwe's prodege in
Olru State constituency.

Ahead Of Party Primaries, Imo APC Unveils Secret Governorship Candidate Madumere, Ejiogu Tipped As Okorocha Passes Screening To Run Presidency

A new chapter will certainly begin Imo All Progressive Congress (APC)
any moment from now.

Trumpeta reports that prospective Guber aspirants have purchased their
forms secretly from the party state secretariat at Imo State
University junction (IMSU) Owerri.

Trumpeta authoritatively learnt that the party (APC) will hopefully
unfold its consensus Guber candidate for the 2015 election in Imo soon
as the party holds primaries for governorship election. Authoritative
source from Govt House, Owerri who spoke to our reporter said that APC
will shock the opposition group in Imo by unveiling a secret candidate
it has been packaging since the incumbent is running for governor.

Trumpeta recently published that Deputy Governor Prince Eze Madumere
and Chief of Staff Imo Government House, Sir Jude Ejiogu were among
those contending for the Imo Guber seat to succeed Governor Rochas
Okorocha who is aspiring for presidency in 2015.

The said secret contenders may not be far from the said duo who are
closely monitored to succeed Okorocha.

A party chieftain who spoke to Trumpeta on condition of anonymity
further confirmed the development by asking the newspaper and Imolites
to wait for the date of unmasking the sole candidate.

"Owelle is running for the President APC will unveil our secret
candidate any moment from now who told you we have no governorship
candidate?" he added.

From all indications, fingers are pointing at Madumere a nd Ejiogu,
while the governor's wife, Nkechi and the son in law are billed to run
as deputy to the eventual flagbearer.

Tension In Imo Civil Service Over Delay in Salary Payment

Anybody who is abreast of trends of events in the ministries,
Department and Agencies (MDAS) in the state would certainly decipher
that all is not well as the workers in Imo state are not smiling one
beat.

Not long ago, the state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha had at a
workers forum in Owerri, boasted that" henceforth, I am directing that
Imo workers be paid their monthly salaries on or before the eighteenth
of every month", Trust Imo workers, they jumped up and down welcoming
the cheering news as it were.

Today is the fifth day of December 2014, the Imo workers are yet to
receive their November salaries. The payment is not even at sight and
those activities for which workers in the MDAS are known for every
December before the Christmas day is not going on.

At this time every year and precisely from the first of December,
Civil and Public Servants commence the sharing of rice, onions,
stockfish and beverages which money they started contributing since
January through co-thrift, so that at the end of the day they use the
fund to make purchases preparatory to the Christmas celebration.

Unfortunately, the workers would not exercise this liberty because of
delay of payment of November salary. One a good day, the workers use
the November salary to make up for any deficits they have in the
co-thrift register.

Trumpeta reliably gathered from an impeccable source in the office of
the Secretary to the Government of Imo state, that workers salary
would wait a little because government is currently "dealing" with
contractors who are owed various sums so that they could go back to
their various sites. The source which begged for anonymity, said the
reasons are to motivate the contractors so that they could complete
the projects which would form part of campaign propaganda come 2015.

At the state secretariat, some workers who spoke to Trumpeta said they
are not thinking of Christmas purchases for the kids again but how to
survive pending when Owelle will change his mind.

Another worker furiously asked if Owelle has used the money meant for
workers salary for his presidential project. "I even heard that he
purchased both the presidential and gubernatorial forms", the worker
intoned.

Meanwhile, if the rumours making the rounds is anything to go by, the
workers may take to the streets to express their anger.

Strangled Baby Causes Stir in Owerri As Kidnappers Abduct TC Chairman's Daughter

Residents of World Bank Estate, New Owerri; outskirts of the state
capital were startled yesterday morning on spotting the mangled body
of a new born baby in a major dumpsite in the area.

The pitiable sight of the baby suspected to have been mangled by the
attackers judging from the decapitated body was spotted inside a
dumpsite at World Bank market road, Owerri. The decomposing body
raised eyebrows as residents including market people gathered to
discuss and have a look at the baby. It also caused traffic hold-up
for the early morning road users.

Policemen who were spotted near the scene controlling traffic and
observing people having a look at the abandoned baby could not utter a
word when approached for comments.

A closer look showed that the baby may have been strangled to death
before being thrown into the dumpsite.

In a related development, the daughter of a Transition Committee
Chairman of one of the councils in Orlu zone (names withheld), has
been kidnapped. The little baby was abducted by unknown persons in his
World Bank Residence in Owerri. The TC Chairman who is among those
recently appointed and sworn in by Governor Okorocha is said to have
opened up discussion with the suspected kidnappers.

Ahead the 2015 Election, six Imo lawmakers are said to have been given
automatic ticket by the Imo APC party leadership courtesy of Governor
Owelle Rochas Okorocha.

Trumpeta gathered that the lawmakers have a serious pact with the
Governor who promised to return them back to power so as to fulfill
the agreement he has to make a special request from the APC
leadership.

Though it was difficult at the initial stage but later on, the party's
leader according to sources considered it necessary to return them
back based on earlier agreement making yesterday primaries a
formality.

The six lawmakers are (1) Ozurigbo Ugonna (aka OZB) Representing
Nwangele LGA (2) Hon Chief Mike Ndubuaka Representing Orlu LGA (3) Hon
Acho Ihim Representing Okigwe (4) Hon Nwafor Representing Ngor Okpala
(5) Member Representing Njaba LGA.

Trumpeta reporter revealed that the decision to give the six lawmakers
automatic ticket sparked off controversies when stakeholders gathered
at Imo government House.

The case of Acho Ihim coming back to represent Okigwe people in Imo
State House of Assembly was not welcomed by his people because
according to few stakeholders in Okigwe, it is the turn of the Okigwe
South and not the Okigwe North bloc.

Investigation revealed that people are opposing the automatic ticket
to the six lawmakers on the ground that it violates their charter of
equity.

In a chat with the information commissioner Hon, Chidi Ibe, he
disclosed that there is no cause for Alam

It was terrible for APC stakeholders of Oguta extraction as Police
tear gas ended the primaries scheduled at the council secretariat,
Oguta yesterday.

Our reporter who monitored the development reported that trouble
started when the chairman of the party in the LGA, Casmir Ohamara and
the Transition Committee Chairman of the party, Okonya were allegedly
accused of hijacking electoral materials meant for conduct of the
House of Assembly primaries.

Trumpeta learnt that when it appeared that the materials meant for the
election were kept in custody by the duo in favour of one of the
aspirants, Louis Obodo, who was former TC Chairman the camp of his
main challenger, Uzoma Ezediaro challenged the action leading to a
fierce battle at the council secretariat.

Police intervention in form of tear gas forced everybody to scamper
for safety while the materials for the election were said to be kept
in Police custody.

As at press time, all the delegates and aspirants had deserted the venue.

It was learnt that of the six aspirants three had stepped down for
Ezediaro even as the leaders had earlier adopt the Oguta Amaeshi-born
politician. In Mbaitoli, Ifeanyi Nnakaraonye won.

Owerri West proved bookmakers wrong when incumbent Innocent Eke
(Obilumba) lost to Victor Ikonne. Ironically Obilumba came third.
Lugard Osuji was returned unopposed after Akuchie stepped down while
Emeka Loyld won in Owerri North.

Thaddeus Oguike won in Ikeduru

Luke Chukwu won in Ohaji/Egbema, while Isu is deadlocked.

At Last, Okorocha Declares For Presidency On Nov 9

Doubts about the position Imo State Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha
will run in 2015 will be cleared this week as all is set for his
declaration for Presidency before the party primaries.

There has been uneasy calm in PDP fold following unclear signal which
office Okorocha will seek in 2015 election.

It would be recalled that Trumpeta had earlier predicted that Okorocha
would formally declare to run for Presidency Dec 9, 2014, a day before
the national convention of the party.

It was gathered that the arrangement which will see Imo APC people
empty into Abuja for the event will end speculations about Okorocha's
next political destination.

The newspaper was reliably informed that the governor is not toying
about the presidential as all logistics needed are on the way to
Abuja.

US Teacher Murdered In UAE Mall Toilet

An American woman has died after being stabbed by an unknown attacker
in the restroom of a high-end mall in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the
United Arab Emirates, police said.

Ibolya Ryan, 47, was taken to the hospital after the attack Monday on
Reem Island but died of her injuries, Abu Dhabi police said.

She worked as a school teacher and had 11-year-old twins who are being
cared for by authorities until their father, the victim's ex-husband,
arrives from abroad, police said. Authorities previously said she was
37.

Ryan was stabbed with a sharp tool, later recovered by police, after a
fight broke out in the women's restroom, according to Col. Dr. Rashid
Mohammad Borshid, head of the Criminal Investigation Department of Abu
Dhabi Police.

The cause of the fight remains unknown; the suspect fled the scene
immediately after committing the crime, he said.

Police have appealed for help tracking down the killer.

"Investigations are still under way to identify the suspect's identity
and gender," a police statement Tuesday said. "Witnesses reported that
the culprit was fully covered wearing an abaya, black gloves and face
cover (niqab)."

The abaya is a black, full-length gown traditionally worn by local
Emirati women. The suspect was also wearing a hijab, or headscarf.

The U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi said it was "working with all the
appropriate authorities to seek further information" about the killing
of a U.S. citizen.

"We offer our condolences to those affected by this terrible tragedy,"
a spokesman said in a statement. "The safety and welfare of U.S.
citizens abroad is one of the Department of State's highest
priorities. We stand ready to provide all possible consular
assistance."

The attack happened at the Boutik Mall on Reem Island, a newly
developed area of Abu Dhabi where many Western expatriates live.

The embassy had issued a statement, back in October, warning U.S.
citizens of an anonymous Internet post that encouraged attacks against
teachers at American and other international schools.

The embassy was unaware of any specific, credible threat at that time,
but called on citizens to be vigilant about their personal security.

CCTV footage released by police shows the suspect, fully covered,
walking calmly in through the parking lot entrance, speaking to
security guards, picking up a paper and disappearing around the corner
out of sight.

It then shows the suspect running to the elevator, followed by others,
and getting into the elevator, before another clip shows the person
leaving the mall through the same parking lot doors.

Violent crime in the UAE is rare and eyewitnesses have expressed shock
at the incident.

"The Abu Dhabi Police will spare no effort in order to unveil this
heinous crime and bring the culprit to justice," said Borshid.

Top 10 Diet Mistakes That Prevents Women From Losing Weight

Do you feel like you are in an endless struggle to drop your dress
size or squeeze into that sexy date night dress? Are you perplexed
that your consistent diet and exercise efforts have yielded less than
optimal results? You may think you are doing all the right things but
it's possible that the diet and fitness protocol you are following is
actually preventing you from reaching your goal weight and getting the
body you want. Read on for the 10 most common diet mistakes that
prevent women from losing weight.

1. Dieting Without Resistance Training

What is the most common way women approach weight loss? Crash dieting.
If crash diets worked, all women would be healthy and fit.

There are two huge problems with crash dieting. One, a lot of the
weight lost is muscle tissue. That means that even if you weigh less
and fit into smaller sizes of clothing, you are still flabby.

The second problem is even worse. Dieting slows down your metabolism.
The longer you diet and the less you eat, the slower your metabolism.
Muscle is your body's metabolism - when you lose it, you reduce your
metabolic capacity.

When you eventually get off the diet - and youwillget off - you are
bound to gain all the weight back in the form of fat. Worse, you will
likely end up gaining more weight than you lost.

2. Focusing On The Scale

What do you see in the mirror and what does the world see at the
beach? Do they see the way your body looks or the number that shows up
on the scale? Most women focus on the number on the scale even though
it isn't always representative of the way they really look.

If you exercise properly, you will build muscle and lose fat at the
same time. If you lose five pounds of fat and build five pounds of
muscle, the scale won't move, but you will look much better in the
mirror and your clothes will fit much better because muscle is more
dense and takes up less room than fat. The truth is, how you look and
feel has little to do with how much you actually weigh.

3. Focusing On Cardio

When you do decide to do some form of exercise, is it invariably some
form of cardio? Well, guess what? Cardio is the least important form
of exercise for getting a sexy shapely body.

The key to getting and keeping a great body is to increase your
metabolism. In other words, you need to focus on activities that not
only burn calories during the workout, but also cause you to burn
calories for hours and days after your workout.

4. Skipping Breakfast

You've heard it before. Breakfast is the most important meal of the
day. But did anyone ever tell you why?

When you wake up in the morning, you have been fasting for eight or so
hours. Your body is starving for nutrients. When you don't give it
any, it starts breaking down muscle for energy. This is bad because
your muscle is your metabolism. So you are literally destroying your
body's ability to burn calories.

Studies have also shown that if you eat a balanced healthy breakfast,
you are much less likely to overeat later in the day. And when you
start your day with a healthy meal, you are more likely to make good
nutrition choices from that point forward.

5. Relying on Pills

Diet pills are another common approach that women take to lose weight.
There are many different categories of diet pills, but few to none of
them actually work. The only time you see women who have gotten in
great shape thanks to a diet pill is on the advertisement for the diet
pill. A natural, common sense approach is the most effective, safest,
and longest-lasting strategy to losing weight.

6. Eating Too Little

Eating three square meals is just the bare minimum for a healthy and
fit body. You should be eating three meals and at least two healthy
snacks each day.
Most women eat too little. They skip or skimp on breakfast and then
often do the same with lunch. This leaves you running on fumes all
day. By the time dinner comes around, you are ravenous and likely to
overeat.

You end up having your heaviest meal at the end of the day when there
is little opportunity to burn off the calories. This is the perfect
recipe for gaining fat.

7. Eating Out Too Much

If your busy schedule or desire for convenience has you eating out
most of the time, you have little to no control over the foods you
eat. And simply put, you have little to no control over what you look
like and how you feel.

If you want to look and feel your best, you need to start cooking.
This doesn't mean you spend hours cooking gourmet meals - it meals
finding a delicious variety of recipes that you can put together in
cinch.

8. Emotional Eating

Food can evoke both good and bad emotions and it is also a go-to when
women feel anxious, depressed, angry, sad, or even elated. Women
experience a variety of psychological attachments to different foods.

California Surgeon On Probation For Removing Wrong Kidney

A California surgeon who allegedly removed the wrong kidney from a
federal inmate has been placed on probation by the state medical
board. UPIhas more:

The California Medical Board ruled Dr. Charles Coonan Streit, a
urologist who has had a license to practice for 41 years, committed
"an extreme departure from the standard of care" when he relied on his
memory and removed a healthy kidney from the 59-year-old federal
inmate at St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton in 2012.

The board said the error put the patient's "future renal function in
jeopardy" and forced him to undergo a second surgery to remove the
cancer-stricken kidney.

The hospital was fined $100,000 by the state Department of Health
after an investigation found CT scans showing the affected kidney had
been left in the office of a surgical team doctor on the day of the
surgery.

Streit was placed on probation for three years and ordered to enroll
in a wrong-site surgery class at the University of California-San
Diego School of Medicine within 60 days. He was also banned from
supervising physician assistants for the duration of his probation.

A 2006 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association
suggested wrong-site surgeries are rare, occurring an estimated once
every five to 10 years at large hospitals.

NFA Electoral Appeals Committee Upholds Pinnick's election, Decision Divides Members

The Electoral Appeals Committee of the Nigeria Football Association
(NFA) on Wednesday upheld the Sept. 30 football board elections held
in Warri, Delta.

This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by
Ademola Olajire, the Assistant Director of Communications, NFA.

The statement said that four members of the committee and the
committee's secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, endorsed the decision contrary
to the expectation of the committee's chairman, Okey Ajunwa.

It said that Dotun Coker, Sani Mohammed, Victor Nwangwu and Bala Garba
were the members who endorsed to uphold the outcome of the election.

"All the members except the chairman upheld the election in Warri.

"The undersigned members of the NFA 2014 Electoral Appeals Committee
have therefore conveyed their findings and decisions to the NFA
secretariat for onward transmission to the relevant authorities.

"This statement is submitted having in mind that the chairman may come
up with a dissenting minority opinion,'' the statement read.

The statement had earlier quoted the chairman of the committee in his
opening remark as saying that there was no pressure from any quarter
to influence the committee's decision.

Muazu Suleyman, Sani Fema, Shehu Dikko and Leonard Igbokwe had
appealed the elections that brought in the Amaju Pinnick-led board of
the NFA after they lost out in the contests.

Okey Ajunwa, chairman of the committee, had yet to react as at the
time of this report.

Obiano Dazzles Onitsha Residents With Christmas Lights, Upper Iweka Glitters

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has continued to blaze the
trail in the pursuit of excellence in governance, weaving aesthetics
into the tapestry of his administrative exploits as could be seen with
the sudden transformation of the once notorious Upper Iweka axis of
Onitsha into a breathtaking kaleidoscope colours in readiness for
Christmas.

Travellers into the Eastern heartland are forced to gasp in wonder as
the long stately highway that connects the Niger Bridge to Upper Iweka
now explodes into a carnival of colour at night in subtle
demonstration of the positive change that Governor Obiano and his team
have ushered into Anambra State. On the surface of the amazing
transformation of Onitsha at night is the message of Christmas.
However, underneath that is the subliminal message of transformation
and hope for a once troubled city that used to be the dread of
benighted road travellers.

Demonstrating his resolve to drive home the inevitability of change
and unveil the friendly face of the new Onitsha, Governor Obiano
stormed the commercial cityon Mondaynight to switch on the bewildering
Christmas light. Accompanied by his wife, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu
Obiano, the Governor performed the symbolic switching on of the
Christmas lights, which also signifies the transition from an era of
darkness to a much desired period of transcendental growth and
prosperity.

Switching on the lights in a garden in Upper Iweka, Governor Obiano
announced that with that gesture, Anambra State has opened its doors
to receive here many illustrious sons and daughters who had kept away
from home on account of the precarious security situation in the state
in the past. He assured the cheering crowd of Onitsha residents who
were surprised to see the governor and his team in the ancient city at
night that his administration had made adequate security arrangements
to protect the state during the Yuletide Season and beyond.

"This is the new Las Vegas of Nigeria" Governor Obiano declared,
pointing at the amazingly transformed Upper Iweka interchange of the
Onitsha-Enugu Expressway. "Tell your brothers and sister in the
Diaspora and elsewhere to come home for Christmas. Anambra is safe
enough for all of us. This Christmas will be one of the best you have
ever had," the governor assured. He also announced that his
administration had made an elaborate plan to give Ndi Anambra a wow
experience this Christmas starting with a special Christmas Carol
night, wrestling and boxing Championships, a musical concert, male and
female football tournaments and a masquerade festival.

He further explained that the Christmas decorations and special
lighting would continue to adorn the streets of Onitsha and other
major cities in the state till the25th of January 2015and appealed to
landlords other residents who have buildings along major ways and
strategic locations to support the efforts of the government by
repainting their houses and decorating them in Christmas colours to
reflect the mood of the season.

Governor Obiano also expressed satisfaction that his administration
has liberated the entire state and Onitsha in particular from the
claws of hoodlums and miscreants and restored night life to the city,
assuring that the ongoing installation of street lights would be
extended to various parts of the State. He reassured Ndi Anambra that
the combined firepower of Operation Kpochapu and Operation Sheba
would guarantee them a crime-free Yuletide Season and beyond.

Accompanied by his wife, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, some members
of the State Executive Council and other top government officials, the
governor inspected the Christmas decorations at the Government House
Awka, Recreation Parks and other parts of Upper Iweka, Onitsha,
Bridge Head and DMGS roundabout, among others.

The Chairman of Onitsha North local government area, Mr. Douglas
Egbuna, thanked the Governor for restoring the glory of the Commercial
City and transforming it as a major gateway into the state.

A resident of the area and an APGA stalwart, Mr. Tex Okechukwu noted
that for the first time the state has a responsive and people-oriented
Governor who is impacting positively on the lives of the people. Mr.
Okechukwu enjoined the electorate to give APGA total support.

Also, speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth
Mobilization, Comrade Chinedu Obidigwe, assured that youths would
assist security operatives to ensure peaceful and crime-free yuletide.

Woman Kept Husband's Corpse In Bedroom For 6 Months Hoping He Resurrects

A Canadian woman sealed her husband's body in the bedroom for six
months after his death while the family waited and prayed for his
resurrection.

The Hamilton Spectator reports that.Kaling Wald, 50, pleaded guilty
Monday to not notifying authorities of her husband's death, as details
in court revealed she allowed his body to rot because she was
expecting a truly miraculous recovery.

The body of Peter Wald, who died at age 51, was discovered in
September.A sheriff had visited the property to evict the family,
along with seven other adults that were living in the home, because
their mortgage had fallen into foreclosure.

Kaling and five of her children, ages 11 to 22, packed up the
patriarch's shoes and bags in preparation for a move. When Kaling
opened the bedroom door to retrieve her husband, the sheriff got his
first whiff that something was wrong.

Peter's had decomposed beyond recognition and had attracted rats in
the bedroom, though Kaling had sealed the door and air vents to
protect her family from the smell.

His two feet protruded from the blankets Kaling had wrapped around him
and secured with duct tape, while a cap was placed on his head.

The late Wald suffered from diabetes and had developed an infection in
his left foot, but would not go to the doctor, instead relying on God
to provide the cure..Kaling said he slipped into a coma in March, but
still she slept by his side. When she noticed signs of stomach bloat
and rigor mortis days later, she sealed him in the bedroom and the
family prayed for him to rise from the dead.

'It's an extremely sad case ... she truly believed her husband was going
to be resurrected from the dead, even after six months,' assistant
crown attorney Janet Booy said.

Kaling's Christian devotion had 'tainted and warped her better
judgment' , and the family 'prayed on a daily basis for Peter to come
back to life.'

Superior Court Justice Marjoh Agro gave her a suspended sentence,
ordering her to serve 18 months' probation and seek counseling.

'Your belief that your husband would resurrect is not an issue,' 'This
is not about your religious beliefs. It is about your safety, the
safety of your children and the safety of the community at large.'

Next-door neighbor Brian Dennis says he saw the family dancing and
chanting in the back yard while wearing black robes. He also saw flies
at the bedroom window and birds pecking at the screen.

When he and his wife Brenda asked about Peter's health, Kaling would
only respond 'He's in God's hands now.'

Stephen Keshi Paid 14 Million Naira By Sport Minister For Two Months Salary

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, is smiling to the bank even as
Nigerians, companies and members of the Nigeria Football Federation
weep bitterly for missing the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. The Minister
of Sports, Tammy Danagogo, has paid Keshi N14m for the past two
months, according to a report by Africanfootball.com.

It was learnt that the transaction was carried out without the
knowledge of the board of the Nigeria Football Federation - a move
experts say further undermines the authority of the NFF over the
coach.

It was understood that Keshi was paid for October and November even
though there is no contractual agreement between the coach and the
NFF.

The Special Media Assistant to the sports minister, Patrick Omorodion,
who confirmed the payment, however told The PUNCH that the money was
not meant for Keshi alone.

"The money was not paid to only Keshi but it meant for the entire
coaching crew. What was done by the ministry was just to fulfil an
agreement earlier reached with the coaches. At the peak of the NFF
crisis and with urgent matches to play, the minister stepped in and
invited Keshi to handle those games after which it would be purely
left for the NFF to retain him or ask another coach to take over."

But the NFF officials say that the explanation cannot stand as the
minister has quietly taken over their role which has ultimately made
nonsense their position as the immediate employers of Keshi and to
whom the coach should report to.

A member said, "The minister has been paying Keshi directly from the
NFF subvention without any input from the NFF. This cannot be good for
the relationship between employer and employee."

Keshi was in charge for the Equatorial Guinea 2015 qualifiers double
header against Sudan in October and then the qualifiers against Congo
and South Africa last month. But he was sacked midway into the
qualifiers when it became very doubtful if the country could qualify
with him in charge. When he was asked to go, the NFF announced a
former coach of the Eagles Shaibu Amodu to take charge of the team for
the remaining two matches but they had to rescind their earlier
decision after Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan asked that he
should be restated. Even though most Nigerians have asked for a new
coach, the NFF members have become helpless under the prevailing
condition.

Even though the NFF president Amaju Pinnick has maintained a contract
has not been agreed with Keshi, followers of the game in Nigeria see
the N7m payment as acceding to Keshi's demand that his pay be
increased to that amount. The amount is N2m raise from what he
received in his initial contract, which ran out after the World Cup in
Brazil.

HIV Gradually Losing Potency And Its Ability To Cause AIDS

One of the world's deadliest virus,HIV is slowing its ability to cause
AIDS, and evolving into a milder form .According to a study of more
than 2,000 women in Botswana and South Africa.

Philip Goulder, a professor at Oxford University who led the study, said

"Overall we are bringing down the ability of HIV to cause AIDS so
quickly,"But it would be overstating it to say HIV has lost its
potency -- it's still a virus you wouldn't want to have."Anything we
can do to increase the pressure on HIV in this way may allow
scientists to reduce the destructive power of HIV over time.". If the
trend that we've seen in the last 10 years in Botswana were to
continue - and I see no reason why it shouldn't - I think the number
of people who can control the virus through their immune system would
definitely go up - or be expected to go up - and eventually could be
some tens of decades down the track - the majority of people."

"You know, it's not impossible to see HIV becoming less of a cause of
disease. And that's what you see in the monkeys who are naturally
infected with SIV, the relation of HIV, which is where we actually got
HIV from. They suffer no disease at all,"

The study also indicates that people infected by HIV are likely to
progress to AIDS more slowly -- in other words the virus becomes less
virulent -- because of widespread access to antiretroviral therapy
(ART).

The findings appear in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy
of Sciences.

Liverpool Striker Mario Balotelli Apologizes For Instagram Post That Appeared To Contain Racist Language

Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has apologised for a post on social
media which appeared to contain anti-Semitic and racist references.

Balotelli, 24, quickly deleted the post from his Instagram page of
Nintendo computer game character Super Mario.

Before his apology, the Italian had tweeted to deny the text of the
post was offensive.

The Football Association has asked Balotelli for his observations and
given him until 18:00 GMT on Friday to respond, while Liverpool say
they will speak to the player.

A spokesman for anti-discrimination group Kick It Out told BBC Sport:
"Kick It Out has been made aware of Mario Balotelli's Instagram post
by a Twitter user and has now forwarded it on to the FA to look into
the matter."

The picture posted had an image of Super Mario with the heading "Don't
be a racist!"

The text read: "Be like Mario, he's an Italian plumber, created by
Japanese people, who speaks English and looks like a Mexican."

It finished: "He jumps like a black man and grabs coins like a Jew."

Balotelli forwarded on a picture produced by someone else

Responding to criticism on Twitter, Balotelli tweeted: "My Mom is
Jewish so all of you shut up please."

He also described reposting the image as "my unlucky moment".

However, he later wrote: "I apologise if I've offended anyone.

"The post was meant to be anti-racist with humour. I now understand
that out of context it may have the opposite effect.

"Not all Mexicans have a moustache, not all black people jump high and
not all Jewish people love money.

"I used a cartoon done by somebody else because it has Super Mario and
I thought it was funny and not offensive. Again, I'm sorry."

A Liverpool spokesman told BBC Sport: "We are aware of the posting
which has since been promptly deleted by the player. We will be
speaking to the player about the issue."

Speaking after Tuesday's 3-1 win at Leicester, manager Brendan Rodgers
said: "I don't know hardly anything about it, I have been busy getting
the team ready for this game.

"I will probably find out more about it."

Jewish Leadership Council chief executive Simon Johnson, a former FA
executive, said Balotelli should face action.

"We abhor all forms of racism, wherever it is found," Johnson told the
Daily Telegraph."We call upon the FA to investigate this offensive
social media post and to take action if appropriate if we are to
succeed in kicking racism out of football."

Under the FA's social media guidelines, the minimum ban for
race-related breaches of rules is five games.

Sports media trainer Alec Wilkinson told BBC World News that some
players have the wrong attitude towards social media.

"There are those that are famous, earn lots of money, with a sky-high
profile, who think 'What can you teach me? I can say what I like, it
won't damage me,'" he said.

"We spend a lot of time explaining to them it's good for them to take
the pressure off themselves, to understand how the media works, how
you can offend people."

Burnley are among the clubs which issue players with a code of conduct
governing social media usage, but their media manager Darren Bentley
says a common-sense approach is paramount.

"We sit them down at the start of the season, but we don't constantly
hammer the message home," he said. "We treat them like adults, not
kids."

In September, Merseyside Police investigated racist remarks made to
Balotelli on Twitterafter he posted a message during Manchester
United's 5-3 defeat by Leicester City.

Yacine Brahimi Wins 2014 BBC African Footballer Of The Year Award

The Algerian winger received the most votes to beat closest rival
Vincent Enyeama to a first-place finish.

"I dedicate the award to my family, all the African countries, but
especially my country, Algeria," the FC Porto winger told the BBC
World News.

"This trophy is going to give me some strength, the desire to learn
and also some inspiration for some great performance."

Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who plays for Borussia Dortmund
and Ivorian pair Gervinho of AS Roma and Manchester City's Yaya Toure
were also in the race.

Toure claimed the gong in 2013. Only Austin 'jay jay'Okocha has
claimed the award twice in history.

Brahimi is also in contention for the Caf Footballer of the Year 2014
award, having made the final cut.

Brahimi was member of the Algerian squad which reached the last-16 of
the world cup for the first time. The 24-year-old winner scored his
first international goal in the 4-2 victory over South Korea in the
group stage.

Brahimi started the year at Spanish club Granada, where his impressive
showing earned him the recognition of the best African player in the
La Liga for the 2013-14 season.

He joined Portuguese club Porto after the World Cup. He has scored six
goals in 15 appearances for his new club.

Brahimi is much favoured to feature at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations
(Afcon) with Algeria. The tournament billed for Equatorial Guinea is
scheduled for January 17 through to February 8.

Brahimi said: "The African Cup of Nations will be a huge inspiration
for me and I hope it can drive myself and Algeria on to great things
at the tournament in the new year."

D'banj's Alleged Indebtedness: See Reported Court Papers Served On Him

Oyebanjo Oladapo aka D'Banj, has been the subject of several media
reports lately. The stories making the rounds about the Nigerian pop
star are very bad for his reputation and most of all, they might be
true.

Bangalee recorded another remarkable achievement early last month,
October 2014 with his official announcement as the first Beats By Dre
headphones African ambassador.

Although the financial details of the deal were not disclosed by the
headphones' new owners, Apple Inc., it is believed to be a lucrative
and rewarding venture for the singer.

As you may already be aware, D'Banj was reported to have huge debt
portfolio hanging on his neck as several people have turned up with
claims that he is owing them substantial sums.

With the story being the most talked about topic in the music industry
this past week, the 'Oliver Twist' star has refused to make any
comment about the matter which we learnt started on a good note for
all concerned back in 2012.

Rather, he simply posted a short remark on Twitter which
reads:'Silence, my response to all the false rumours'and proceeded to
throw his weight behind the release of the new video of Oritse femi's
'Double Wahala Remix' in which he is featured.

Since the story hit the public space, all attempts to reach neither
D'Banj nor his management to react to the scandal has proved abortive
as he is said to have told his team to avoid speaking to the media
until further notice.

Sources however claim that they were able to get hold of a warning
letter sent to him by Mr. Henry Ojogho, the Vice Chairman of BRORON
GROUP, Broron Oil & Gas Limited who is also the Vice Chairman of
MindHub Technologies.

In the letter, dated September 13, 2013, Henry gave D'banj a final
warning to refund the money owed him or be prepared to face full wrath
of the law.

The letter partly reads:

'The above subject matter, our several mails, telephone conversations
and meetings between you and our Vice Chairman refer.

Recall that you agreed to act as a guarantor for the payments owed to
Mindhub by D Kings Men Media Limited (the company) on account of
investment made by Mindhub to the company as contained in the
Memorandum of Understanding dated 19th of October, 2012.

'This letter constitutes a FINAL NOTICE OF DEMAND to Pay the
outstanding sum of USD 300,000 (Three hundred thousand Dollars) and
N15m (Fifteen million Naira) immediately as outlined in your personal
guarantee.

'Should you fail to perform according to the executed Personal
Guarantee within seven (7) days of receipt of this letter we shall not
hesitate to exercise the legal rights and remedies available to
Mindhub without further notice to you, to compel performance of the
Guarantee in accordance with its terms. Further note that should we
decide to exercise any of the company's rights and remedies under the
guarantee, all costs and expenses shall be fully borne by you.'

D'Banj recently returned to the country, precisely on Wednesday,
November 12, 2014 after spending 3 months in the United States.

Investigations revealed that his absence had made it impossible for
him to be served the court papers previously but we gathered that the
court papers suing him for alleged issuance of dud cheques might have
been pasted on the wall of his residence located at Osaro Isokpan
Street in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos by now as his creditors now see him as
trying to frustrate the process of being served the court papers.

The claimant, Henry Ojogho is represented by a Benin, Edo State-based
law firm, D.U. ODIGIE & CO and sources say the legal fireworks will
start soon if D'banj refuses to act accordingly.
