New Study Puts Nigeria 2nd Most Religious Country And 4th Among 'Most Widespread Use Of Marijuana'

According to a new research carried out by US based researcher, Conrad
Hackett,who works with Pews researcher, a US based non-partisan
research group, Nigeria is ranked the 2nd most religious country after
Pakistan and is also rankedthe 4th country with the most widespread
use of illegal substance, Marijuana, in the world. Is this really our
reality or it is contestable.

Better Ways To Prevent Cancer

The word alone is enough to send shivers down one's spine. It seems
to come out of nowhere, and when it strikes, it can be deadly.

Eat organic food:

for beef production takes an enormous toll on water and land resources
and can be extremely inhumane to the animals. Plus, the millions of
cows on the planet emit methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Raising
fewer cows would help protect ground water and reduce global warming.

Take a hike:
"There is strong evidence that physical activity is associated with
reduced risk of cancers of the colon and breast ... as well as
endometrial, lung and prostate cancers," says the National Cancer
Institute. Plus, walking and other forms of exercise are great ways to
reduce air pollution and lower emissions of carbon dioxide that
results when cars burn gasoline.

Don't smoke:
About 160,000 people will die from lung cancer in 2015, and the risk
is much higher for smokers than non-smokers.

Kenya Massacre: Survivor Emerges After Two Days Un Wardrobe

A survivor of Kenya's university massacre who hid in a wardrobe for
two days too terrified to come out was rescued safely on Saturday,
dehydrated but apparently unharmed, Kenya Red Cross said.

"A survivor has been discovered, she was hiding in a wardrobe," Kenya
Red Cross spokeswoman Arnolda Shiundu toldAFP.

"She has been taken to hospital and she's currently undergoing
assessment by doctors."

Agence France-Press reports that the 19-year old woman was initially
too scared to come out until a university lecturer she knew came to
convince her that the police officers were not the Shebab gunmen who
carried out the killing of nearly 150 of her fellow students, police
said.

"She is the latest survivor, she has been hiding in a wardrobe for two
days," a police officer involved in the security operation said, who
asked not to be named. "That is when she came out of the wardrobe and
rushed to hospital."

The student was rescued on Saturday morning, some 50 hours after the
attack began. The gunmen were killed on Thursday evening.

The BBC said she told them she drank "body lotion when she felt hungry."

Kenyan troops searching the building were alarmed when they heard
sounds coming from inside a wardrobe.

"She kept asking for reassurance from the security forces they were
not Al-Shebab before she could come out," the police officer said.

"She was given milk and rushed to the Garissa hospital, where she is
being observed before being given counselling."

Four survivors were also found on Friday, Shiundu said.

This is as the Kenya's Interior Cabinet Secretary, Joseph Nkaissery,
on Saturday, confirmed that police had arrested three more suspects,
in addition to two others, over an attack in Garissa University.

APC Crying Wolf Over Polls Results In Imo --Ihedioha

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Governorship
Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Imo State, Chief
Emeka Iheidoha has dismissed as "baseless and laughable" allegation
by the All Progressive Congress(APC) that officials of the Independent
National Electoral Commission (NEC) connived with armed soldiers to
rig last months' presidential /National Assembly elections in favour
of the PDP.

Governor Okorocha had at a recent function in the State claimed that
the APC would have harvested more votes than it got in the last
elections but for the electoral fraud perpetrated by soldiers and
some Staff of the electoral umpire.

But refuting the allegation, Chief Ihedioha while addressing
newsmen in Owerri dismissed this as nothing short of the pot calling
the kettle black saying "it is no secret that some of Okorocha Aides
were arrested with all sorts of dangerous weapons which they had
stockpiled for the election. We won overwhelmingly in the elections
with all the three senatorial seats firmly in our hands and eight(8)
out of ten (10) seats for the Federal House of Representatives also in
our hands. How can the governor now turn around to cry wolf about the
results of the election when he did everything humanly possible to
cheat but the people rejected him".

The PDP governorship candidate expressed shock that the governor had
not apologized to the people of the state for the atrocity committed
by some of his officials during the election who according to him even
planned to turn the state into a battle field.

Chief Ihedioha equally accused the governor of harassing and
intimidating voters during the election and also tore INEC result
sheets while the people expected security agents to take action.

Chief Ihedioha who further accused the governor of manhandling some
university Professors boasted that a PDP government would response to
the worthy yearnings and aspirations of the people, utilize available
potentials for massive development and also put the state on the
national grid.

He expressed optimism that the electorate would not reject the PDP at
the polls, just as he congratulated the President elect-General
Muhammadu Buhari(retd) on his victory at the polls, urging him to
rule with the fear of God devoid of discrimination against any
part of the country.

He accused Okorocha of financial recklessness and of destroying the
fabric of both the traditional and judiciary Institutions in the
state, lamenting that the local government system in the state is now
lying comatose as a result of malfeasance of the APC led

Mu'azu Blames PDP Loss on Voter Apathy, Urges Supporters To Ensure Victory In 24 States

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Adamu
Mu'azu, has charged members of the party nationwide to ensure that it
wins 24 states in the April 11 governorship elections.

In a statement on Saturday signed by his media aide, Tony Amadi, Mr.
Mu'azu listed the states the party must win to include Lagos, Rivers
and Imo, whose governorship candidates he described as "first class
materials",

The PDP currently controls 21 of the 36 states in the country. They
are Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu,
Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Benue, Plateau, Niger and Kogi.

Others are Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Kaduna, Ekiti and Ondo.

Mr. Mu'azu, who could not deliver his home state, Bauchi, to the PDP
in last Saturday's presidential election, however, urged party
faithful to pick up the pieces of the defeat and ensure that they
return the party quickly to "winning ways".

According to him, the gubernatorial election next week would certainly
provide the PDP a soft-landing after conceding the presidency to the
All Progressives Congress in the presidential election on March 28.

"I urge the PDP faithful to pick up the pieces and ensure that we
return quickly to our old winning ways. There should be no room for
voter apathy that was a major factor to our losing the presidential
election", Mr. Mu'azu said.

He added that while the All Progressives Congress is busy savouring
its famous victory, "we should out flank them and corner at least two
thirds of the states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria".

"This is not an impossible target if we return to our elements with
immediate effect", he said adding that "We have done it before and we
can do it again. Nothing will be sweeter than PDP taking Lagos, our
own Rivers State and Imo. Our candidates in these states are first
class material who have fully penetrated the political structures of
those states and are set to win".

Charging party faithful that their remaining target should be to
retain states currently under the control of PDP, Mu'azu called for an
incursion "into the heart of our political opponents and show that
their presidential victory is nothing more than a one-off that won't
be repeated in a long while".

The PDP national chairman in the statement, recalled that earlier in
the week, he had reminded gubernatorial candidates of the party at the
Wadata House national secretariat of the party that one thing that
won't happen in the gubernatorial race is "the so called bandwagon
effect. The reason is simple. Our party is used to bouncing back
whenever we experience a setback.

"The PDP in the past 16 years of democracy has maintained fair play
consistently, this much the APC admitted in their response to
President Jonathan's speech conceding to President-elect General
Muhammdu Buhari".

He stressed that the key to winning the remaining election was heavy
turnout and voting the PDP all the way.

"There should be no tactical voting. Be consistent in your support for
the party. What we experienced in the presidential election is merely
a hiccup which we must cast out in the gubernatorial polls. All PDP
supporters must remember their pedigree, our track record and history
of the party and the source of our electoral feats of the last 16
years. We are the reason that democracy has taken root in Nigeria
since 1999. This is something every member of our great party should
be very proud of.

"We have only lost a battle but the war to bring our country to the
highest level of democratic governance is still to be won or lost. Our
governorship candidates should go out and finish the good fight and
come up trumps in the remaining gubernatorial and houses of assembly
election on 11th April. We remain the winning party and by God's

Catholic Nun Stabs Student With Needle to Show Him How Jesus Suffered

A nun identified as Rev. Sister Ludovita, 30 stabbed a schoolboy in
the hand with a needle to show him how Jesus suffered.

The nun had been teaching at a school in the town of Kysucke Nove
Mesto in northern Slovakia when she told unsuspecting pupil Adam
Celko, 7, to come to the front of the class.

She then took a needle out of her handbag and rammed it into the boy's
hand in front of the horrified class, telling him that this was how
Jesus suffered - and he would too if he behaved badly.

The boy's outraged mum Helena, 30, said: "When Adam got home he had a
wound on the back of his hand and when I asked him what had happened
he told me the nun had done it.

"I was completely shocked. I mean, what on earth was she thinking?

Local priest Peter Holbicka said: "The Sister in question has been
removed from the school and I shall be taking the matter up with her
personally."

Emeka Ihedioha Has Imo in His Grasp By Tony Amadi (ThisDay)

If I was in the shoes of the present Governor of Imo State, Chief
Rochas Okorocha, I should be preparing my hand over notes for the next
governor of the state. I am talking of the giant strides of Deputy
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, the Peoples
Democratic Party, gubernatorial candidate in the April 11, 2015
governorship elections. Emeka has had a powerful campaign so far and
he has managed to gather all the strong leaders of the party in the
state under one umbrella, just as the party supporters are poised for
his coronation on May 29, 2015.

Those who know Imo political terrain very well will surely agree that
time is up for the incumbent, Rochas Okorocha. Emeka has assembled the
major stakeholders of the PDP in Imo state under one umberella and
they have fully endorsed the candidature of the prominent House of
Representatives Deputy Speaker who is set to cross the fence from the
legislature to the executive branch at the state level.

There are for instance, Chief Arthur Nzeribe, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu,
former State Governor Achike Udenwa, Dr. Eddie Mbadiwe, Senator Hope
Uzodimma and various others who are all rooting for Ihedioha's quest
to become the next governor of Imo state.

A new era has dawned in the state even before the first votes are cast
for the 2015 general elections. It is a state that has had the problem
of getting good leaders that can take them to the next level, but has
always fell short of the requirement for progressive governance. On
paper, the incumbent has done well but there is certainly a disconnect
between the leader and the followers. Imo is one state I have
travelled widely over the past two years, not only because during the
presidential campaign in which I was on the trail with the National
Chairman of the party and the Presidency and its apparatchik, I have
made several trips to Imo in the course of social networking visits.

Governor Okorocha had won the governorship in 2011 via the All
Progressive Grand Alliance, a party that late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo
originated, using Chief Chekwas Okorie for the legwork, but later
hijacked by others that included Chairman Victor Umeh who was ripping
where he did not sow before late General Odumegwu Ojukwu popularized
it into a political force in the South East. After getting power
through the party, Okorocha insensitively factionalized it, taking his
wing of the party to the All Progressive Congress to the consternation
of the Igbo nation.

Now the knives are out for him to pay for his costly mistake. No one
is interested now in the infrastructural feat he wrought on Imo state
and the wily deputy speaker moved in fast to sow the seed that he is
now reaping a huge harvest, including the keys to Government House,
Owerri. Even if Rochas does a summersault by leaving APC, a party that
cannot win anything east of the Niger for any other party, it is too
late. Emeka has permeated the length and breadth of Imo state,
unleashing a charm offensive that is hard to change even with APC's
din of Change mantra sweeping everywhere but getting nowhere.

Chief Ihedioha has even managed to reconcile the irreconcilables in
the state, to the point that the man he defeated in the contentious
primaries is now rooting for him. The first to endorse his aspiration
is the indefatigable Chief Arthur Nzeribe, the iroko of Imo politics
who may have retired from active politics, but certainly not tired of
making his position well known in the state and the wider nation.
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, another Imo political juggernaut has joined
the train of Ihedioha-mania sweeping the state. Former Governor Achike
Udenwa is also on the Emeka Ihedioha train while the National Woman
Leader of the PDP, Chief Mrs. Kema Chikwe, who is a distinguished Imo
daughter and a former ambassador to Ireland is a permanent fixture on
the Emeka Ihedioha campaign trail.

It is widely expected that with Ihedioha on the saddle of leadership
at the highest level in Imo governance, a long existing void will be
filled. It will be a true government of the people, by the people and
for the people. That is when the people of Imo will enjoy true and
real democratic dividend that has long been sought after by the
people.

PDP, APC Strategise Ahead Of Weekend Polls

Ahead of next weekend's nationwide governorship and House of Assembly
elections, Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress are
planning strategies for electoral superiority in the various states
and seeking ways to undercut each other. After penultimate Saturday's
presidential and National Assembly elections, which threw up upsets in
many areas, the two main political parties are back to the drawing
board. They are thinking about fresh ways to approach the polls to
regain strength where they had lost, and reinforce their positions in
areas they recorded strong showing.

The PDP national chairman, Adamu Muazu, said his party would rebound
after losing the presidential election to APC. In a statement
yesterday by his media assistant, Tony Amadi, Muazu said General
Muhammadu Buhari's defeat of incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan was
a one-off victory that would have no effect on the next elections.

In response, however, APC vowed not to lose any ground to PDP in next
Saturday's elections. APC national publicity secretary, Lai Mohammed,
told THISDAY by telephone that the party was determined to win more
areas in the governorship and House of Assembly elections.

This was as 19 APC members of the 26-member Ekiti State House of
Assembly levelled allegations bordering on gross misconduct against
the state governor, Ayo Fayose, and threatened to commence impeachment
proceedings against him soon. The 19 legislators had been suspended by
seven members loyal to Fayose since November 17 last year, in a
controversial move that was widely condemned and is being contested in
the court. The APC lawmakers were also virtually banished from the
state by thugs believed to be sponsored by the governor. But,
apparently, buoyed by APC's presidential election win, the 19
legislators reconvened at the Assembly complex on Wednesday, feeling
confident that the shenanigans that had cost them their positions
might not continue with the imminent assumption of power by a new
commander-in-chief.

In a related development, unknown gunmen yesterday killed nine persons
and injured many others at Obrikom and Oboh communities in
Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State, in
what appears to be a politically-motivated violence. The Police Public
Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Ahmad Muhammad (DSP), confirmed
the incident, which was believed to have targeted

APC members, including the party's House of Assembly candidate, Vincent Ogbuagu.

Muazu asked PDP governorship and House of Assembly candidates to go
all out and re-enact the party's winning ways in Saturday's elections,
while ruling out any bandwagon effect from penultimate weekend's loss
at the presidential poll. He said the next governorship election would
provide PDP "a soft-landing after conceding the presidency" to APC in
the presidential election on March 28.

"I urge the PDP faithful to pick up the pieces and ensure that we
return quickly to our old winning ways. There should be no room for

election. While our opponents are savouring their famous victory, we

Local Government area awarded to Eamdar Construcion Nig. Ltd and the
Construction of 2.15km Mgbara Umuoji road in Ohaji Egbeme Local
Government Area awarded to Emtony Global Connections Ltd.

Iwuoha noted that through various manipulations in award of road
contracts, state funds running into billions of naira were diverted
and used by the Rt. Honourable Speaker to acquire eye-popping
properties scattered across the country and abroad. The properties the
speaker acquired with alleged stolen funds include a N500 million
naira Asphalt plant along Onitsha road Owerri, acquired in the first
quarter of 2012, several mansions along Chief Ben Uwajumogu Street,
Federal Housing Estate, Umuguma, Owerri - West LGA, acquired in 2013,
JASMINE Hotels and suites behind Imo Concorde Hotel valued at over N70
million and opened in November 2012, over 200 plots of land located in
Owerri West LGA and acquired in 2013.

The Speaker also renovated, furnished and converted his father's
village one storey building at Ihitte/Uboma LGA into a palace at a
value of over N400 million, built two other mansions in Ihitte/Uboma,
renovated his father's Hotel (Eastern Comfort) in Umuahia to the tune
of over N100 million, acquired mansions in Aba and Umuahia, acquired a
Crush Rock Industry in Ebonyi State to the tune of over N760 million
naira in 2013, converted the Imo State Liaison Office Abuja into his
personal property.

The Imo State government reportedly "leased" out the five floor state
liaison office for 20 years at the sum of N70,000,000 to Imo Speaker,
who in turn ejected all Staffs of the office forcefully in August
2013. Imo Speaker spent over N750 million in converting the edifice
into a Hotel. He also owned a hotel in Lagos valued at over N500
million naira. Iwuoha wondered why a man who borrowed N10.6 million
from Chief Athan Achonu, N11.5 million from Chief George Eguh and N15
million from Chief Tony Chukwu and mortgaged his father's properties
at Aba and Umuahia in Abia state during the 2011 electioneering
campaign can become a multi billionaire within two and a half years .

Your Smartphone Will Be Obsolete In Two Years

The urban legend is that inside every piece of high-tech equipment is
a little chip that will go off and destroy the hardware once the
warranty runs out so you have to buy a new device. While it is a myth,
the rapid iteration of hardware and software in today's smartphones
offer the same impression.

When you buy a smartphone, you want to know that it is being supported
for all of its working life. At the very least, that means two years
in a new smartphone (the life of a standard contract) and I would
argue that another year on top of that would make sense.

Hardware in smartphones should be designed to last for a number of
years, and I think software should also remain valid for three years.
This should clearly include patches for bugs and security issues, but
what is also needed is a clear message from the manufacturers on
software updates.

At the moment it's far too easy for manufacturers to not pass on
updates to the underlying operating system. Google's development of
Android is streaking ahead, with Android 5.1 being worked on and bug
fixes for Android 5.2 already in place. Yet for the majority of people
on older handsets, the chances of even Android 5.0 arriving in the
near future is slim. Even Google has noted that security updates to
older versions of Android are being stopped.

To take the example of one manufacturer, Sony has announced that
Android 5.0 will be rolling out to Xperia handsets over the next week
or so, but apart from the Xperia T2 Ultra and C3, these updates will
be restricted to later handsets in the 'Z' series, but no further.

While Android handset sales are growing and the platform dominates the
current market share numbers, the profit and income levels derived
from these handsets is dropping.This leaves manufacturers with fewer
resources in mobile device budgets. How much of that can be allocated
to supporting existing hardware, and how much is spent on research and
development, is a tricky equation.

I wonder if the squeeze on Android profits is partly to blame for the
slowing down of Android updates, and of the restrictions on older
devices receiving the latest updates?

Neither is Android alone in this little quandary. Apple has the same
issues albeit not on a financial level. Although the latest version of
iOS will run on hardware reaching back to iPhone 4S, the advances in
hardware means that the chipset and technical specifications of the
iPhone 4S running iOS 8 is hobbled at best, and crippled at worst. The
impression given? Time to update if you want to make best use of the
latest software.

There's no real answer to the question of years-old hardware becoming
'too slow' to run the latest build of an operating system (perhaps
Project Ara although that is a long way from reaching the mainstream),
but there's no excuse when the hardware is less than a year old and
there is a version of the mobile OS which will comfortably run on the
current technical specifications.

"I Will Not Accept Tenure Renewal, I'll Quit as INEC Chairman in June" --Attahiru Jega

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission,
Attahiru Jega, has said he will not accept a tenure renewal even if he
is offered.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, the INEC Chairman, says he will be
leaving office in June this year when his tenure as Chairman of the
electoral body ends.

"I am grateful to God. I was asked to come and contribute my own quota
to the national development and I have done my bit to the best of my
ability. Whatever assignment one will do for five years, just like
this difficult one to me, if one is able to successfully accomplish
the task, someone else should be given the opportunity. Because for me
I am not interested & if I am requested to serve again, I will not do
it, by God's grace" he said.

Prof. Jega came into office in 2010 and has conducted two elections so
far, which have the been judged the fairest in Nigeria.

WAEC Plans To Adopt JAMB's (CBT) For Exams Across West African Countries

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) is in the move to adopt
Computer based Test for its examinations.

Speaking at the Board's 20th annual endowment fund lecture in its
Ikeja, Lagos, international office. The WAEC's Board Registrar,Dr. Iyi
Uwadae, revealed that the board plans to introduce the technology into
its examination across the West African sub region.

He said:"WAEC is ready to adopt the technology based method in
conducting its examination across West African Countries. The Board's
new international office in Lagos is already equipped with internet
facilities and can sit over 350 candidates at once".

Uwadae, who further disclosed concern over WAEC unique system of
examination which is theoretical in nature, compared to the UTME's
objective questions, however, was quick to dismiss it as a non-issue.

The Registrar said:"The fact that the WAEC exams are theoretical will
not stand as a major challenge in adopting the CBT, though, our Board
will not in a rush to adopting this CBT method."

Militant Group Claims Responsibility For Delta Pipeline Explosion, Reveals The Reason

An Urhobo militant group, Urhobo Gbagbako, has claimed responsibility
for Thursday night's bombing of the NPDC Oil pipelines at Ighrenene,
Afiesere and Ekiugbo communities in Delta State.

According to the Punch, the group made the claims in an email sent to
some reporters on Friday, April 3. The group warned that it was also
planning to shut down all the oil fields in Urhobo and Isoko areas.

The email signed by the group's spokesperson, Priest Omodjuvwu,
revealed that the aim of the bombing was to draw attention to the
neglect of ex-militants of Urhobo extraction.

According to the group, the Urhobo had been sidelined in the pipelines
protection contracts offered to ex-militants from other ethnic groups.
Therefore, they decided to show that they also had the capacity to
cause trouble if ignored.

The militant group further stated that it had already sent warning
signals to the NPDC and the federal government on the pipeline
surveillance contracts, which had excluded the Urhobo.

Urhobo Gbagbako however dissociated itself from media reports about a
14-day ultimatum given to the federal government and NPDC on the oil
pipeline surveillance contracts.

"We have now resumed attack on the NPDC pipeline facilities on a
massive scale, which scale of bombings shall be unprecedented,"the
email said.

The group warned that the attacks would continue until the Urhobo got
what rightly belonged to them.

It would be noted that the latest claim of Urhobo Gbagbako caused
anger and indignation among Nigerians.
