Tony Elumelu And Orji Uzor Kalu Makes Forbes Billionaires List

For the first time in the four years that FORBES has been tracking
Africa's richest, Nigeria bests South Africa. At the top yet again is
cement tycoon Aliko Dangote of Nigeria, joined on the list of Africa's
50 Richest by 12 other countrymen. In comparison South Africa claims
11 spots, down from 14 a year ago. Nigeria is showing its strength,
having earned commendations for its efforts to snuff out Ebola in the
country, which Dangote helped fund -- and despite a recent drop in oil
prices.

There are three new billionaires on the list: Orji Uzor Kalu of
Nigeria, Tony Elumelu of Nigeria and King Mohammed VI of Morocco.
Three billionaires on last year's list are no longer members of the
10-figure club: Vimal Shah of Kenya is off the list, replaced by his
father Bhimji Depar Shah at a lower net worth. Abdulsamad Rabiu of
Nigeria dropped below $1 billion due to ceased operations at his
floating cement terminal in Nigeria. And South African mining mogul
Desmond Sacco dropped to a net worth of $680 million, down from $1.4
billion last year, because of a sharp decline in the share price of
his mining firm Assore Group. The net result: the number of
billionaires on the list stayed steady with 2013 at 27.

Africa's 50 richest are, as a whole, wealthier than a year ago. Their
combined net worth of $110.7 billion is 6.7% more than in November
2013. The minimum net worth needed to join this elite group rose to
$510 million, up from $400 million a year ago.

Behind Aliko Dangote at number one with a fortune of $21.6 billion,
comes South African luxury goods magnate Johann Rupert, number two for
the second year in a row, worth an estimated $7.3 billion. His
Compagnie Financiere Richemont has a stable of luxury brands including
Cartier, Montblanc and fashion house Azzedine Alaia.

Six newcomers join the list of richest Africans, including the above
mentioned new billionaires, as well as Ali Wakrim of Morocco and Ahmed
Ezz of Egypt. Mohamed Bensalah of Morocco rejoins the list after
dropping off in 2013. Seven members of the 2013 list fell off: Vimal
Shah of Kenya (as mentioned earlier, his father Bhimji replaced him),
Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, Raymond Ackerman of South Africa,
Sani Bello of Nigeria, Adrian Gore of South Africa, Shafik Gabr of
Egypt, and Alami Lazraq of Morocco.

Nearly Half Of Liberia's Workforce Is Out Of Job Since Ebola Crisis Began

Liberia is the hardest hit nation in the Ebola outbreak

Nearly half of Liberia's working population at the beginning of the
Ebola crisis is no longer doing so, according to a new reportreleased
Wednesday.

The West African nation has been the hardest hit in the regional
outbreak, accounting for more than 7,000 cases and nearly 3,000
deaths, according to the World Health Organization. To measure the
economic impact of that devastation, the World Bank, Liberian
Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services and the Gallup
Organization conducted phone surveys and found that not only is a
massive part of the country's work force out of job, but food
insecurity is worsening.

Wage workers and the self-employed have taken the biggest hit, the
report finds. Prior to the epidemic, more than 30% of working
household breadwinners were self-employed, but now that rate is just
above 10%. Many people lost jobs because their business or government
offices closed.

Agricultural workers were significantly burdened at the start of the
outbreak, too, since transportation routes were interrupted and people
avoided large gathering spaces like markets, but the report shows
Liberians are beginning to return to work as the harvest approaches.

Nigeria Ranked One of Five Countries Worst Hit By Terrorists

Nigeria has been ranked among 2013 world's most terrorised countries
in the Global Terrorism Index 2014 report released on Tuesday.

In the said report, five mostly terrorised countries, Iraq,
Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria and Syria, accounted for 80 per cent of
the deaths from terrorism in 2013.

Iraq alone recorded more than 6,000 deaths, making the country most
affected by terrorism, the report said.

India, Somalia, the Philippines, Yemen and Thailand were the next
five, with between one per cent and 2.3 per cent of global deaths by
terrorism.

Behind most of the deaths were militant groups, Islamic State
militants, al-Qaeda, Boko Haram and the Taliban, which the Global
Terrorism Index 2014 report said were the four main groups responsible
for 66 per cent of all deaths from terrorist attacks in 2013.

The latest study into international terrorism showed that the number
of deaths from terrorism increased by 61 per cent between 2012 and
2013.

The report, which investigated terrorism trends between 2000 and 2013,
used data from the United States (US)-based Global Terrorism Database.

Nearly 10,000 terrorist attacks occurred in 2013, which amounted to 44
per cent increase from 2012, the report indicated.

The report by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) said nearly
18,000 people died from terrorist attacks in 2013.

Irate Youths Burn Suspected Boko Haram Member In Gombe

A man suspected to be a member of the Boko Haram sect has been lynched
at the Central Motor Park in Gombe, the Gombe State capital on
Wednesday, while attempting to blow up the area with a bomb.

Reports say the suspect, who was in possession of a black bag, was
seen waiting suspiciously to enter the state-run Gombe Transport
Line.

Vigilantes in the area upon noticing his movement approached him and
tried to make him open his black bag but he refused and instead
detonated the bomb that was in his bag, injuring himself in the
process.

An angry crowd immediately gathered around the man, piled tires on
him, doused him with gasoline and burnt him to death.

This incident is coming barely three weeks after a triple bomb
explosionsat a bus station left scores of people dead in the north
eastern city.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the death of seven persons the
attack while the Nigeria Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) put the
death toll at nine.

Hospital sources and eyewitness accounts, however, put the figure
between 24 and 30 adding that about 37 people sustained injuries,
during the blast which occurred at the Gombe Transport Services
Limited Terminal in the State capital.

SCOAN Building Collapse: Aircraft That Flew Over TB Joshua's Church Identified

Questions bordering around the ownership of the aircraft alleged by
Prophet T.B. Joshua to have caused the collapse of a guest house at
the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), where 116 persons died
has been answered at a coroner's inquest on Wednesday.

Although several experts have dismissed the claims of Joshua, many
have argued that the validity of his allegation, there is need for
people to know where the aircraft came from.

It has now been revealed that the aircraft was an air force plane.

"We have found out that the aircraft belongs to the NAF (Nigerian Air
Force) and was said to be on a circuit training mission at the time of
the incident," Police investigator Superintendent Olusola Agoi told
the hearing on Wednesday.

"This was confirmed by the NAF," he added.

The plane, which was flying at 1,100 feet (300 metres), was on the
flight path to the nearby Lagos airport, according to experts who
dismissed Joshua's claim.

"Based on the distance of the aircraft to the building, it was
practically impossible for the aircraft to cause the collapse," Lagos
State building inspector Olutoyin Ayinde had said last month.

The collapsed building was also said to not have planning permission.

Of the 116 people killed in the building collapse, 74 were South Africans.

Happy Planet Index(HPI), it's the happiest country on Earth, followed

NBC Dumps Bill Cosby Sitcom Plan Over Rape Allegations

NBC has halted development on its Bill Cosby sitcom. In the wake of
mounting rape allegationsagainst the legendary comedian, the
broadcaster has shelved its plan to returnThe Cosby Showstar to
primetime.

NBC first announced an untitled family sitcom starring Cosby last
January, with a pilot to be written by formerGleestar Mike O'Malley
and sitcom veteran Mike Sikowitz. NBC intended to potentially debut a
series next fall.

Despite the traditional media and social media tempest, Cosby has
never been convicted with a crime related to the allegations. The
allegations accuse Cosby of crimes during the 1970s and '80s. Cosby
has also declined to answer questions about the accusations.

The sitcom news first put Cosby's name back in the headlines and some
media outlets began to report on past allegations against the star,
where women have accused Cosby of drugging and sexually abusing them.
When asked about the issue at NBC's press tour in July, entertainment
president Jennifer Salke told reporters, "We're very committed, and
that's an important show for us." While NBC's entertainment chairman
Bob Greenblatt told reportersafter the network's panel: "All I do is
try to put on shows that I think are good, with extraordinary talent.
I think he's extraordinary. And I think the show will be good. All the
other things will sort of sort themselves out."

The allegations significantly spiked in media attention last month
after a video of stand-up comic Hannibal Buress calling Cosby a rapist
went viral. A few weeks later, a meme-generating social stunt on
Cosby's website backfired when users took the opportunity to mock the
comic for the allegations. Then late last week, Cosby canceled a
planned appearance on David Letterman's CBS late-night talk show.

On Sunday, after Cosby refused to answer questions about the
allegations during an NPR interview, Cosby's attorney John P. Schmitt
released this statement: "Over the last several weeks, decade-old,
discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced. The fact
that they are being repeated does not make them true. Mr. Cosby does
not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment. He would
like to thank all his fans for the outpouring of support and assure
them that, at age 77, he is doing his best work. There will be no
further statement from Mr. Cosby or any of his representatives."

Yet on the heels of the statement, another woman surfacedwith a new
allegation of sex abuse by Cosby when she was 19 years old. Then on
Wednesday,Entertainment Tonightbroke the story of formerAmerica's Next
Top Modeljudge Janice Dickinson also accusing Cosby of rape when he
was onThe Cosby Show.

This week, the media has swiveled to focus intensely on NBC's project,

Honduras Beauty Queen That Went Missing Last Week With Her Sister, Have Been Found Dead

A Honduran beauty queen and her sister were found dead Wednesday,
police said, and the sister's boyfriend and another man have been
arrested in connection with the case.

The bodies of María José Alvarado Muñoz, the reigning Miss World
Honduras, and her sister, Sofia Trinidad Alvarado, were found in a
mountainous area beside a river after they had been missing for
several days, Honduran police said in comments aired by CNN affiliate
Televicentro.

Plutarco Antonio Ruiz Rodriguez and Aris Valentin Maldonado Mejia are
now in police custody, and investigators believe more people are
involved in the sisters' deaths, Police Commissioner Casco Torres
told Televicentro.

Ruiz is Sofia's boyfriend, police say, according to CNN en Español.

The sisters disappeared last Thursday night after going to a spa for a
birthday party for Ruiz in Santa Barbara, northwest of the capital of
Tegucigalpa, police told CNN en Español.

Ruiz is suspected of killing the two sisters, said Leandro Osorio,
chief of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Ruiz also "is considered the person who was most in contact" with the
victims, Deputy Police Commissioner Rolando Casco added, according to
Televicentro.

Alvarado, 19, was supposed to leave for London soon to participate in
the Miss World pageant, police said.

Their family reported the women's disappearance on Saturday. Their
mother, Teresa Muñoz, initially believed her two daughters were
kidnapped.

Eduardo Zablah, director of the pageant in Honduras, told
Televicentrothat Alvarado and her sister were last seen getting into a
vehicle after attending a party last week.

The young woman was to be among the contestants from more than 120
countries who arrive in London this weekfor early rounds of the Miss
World pageant. The final round is scheduled for December 14.

A student from Santa Bárbara, Honduras, Alvarado beat 18 contestants
to win the Miss World Honduras crownin April.

In her profile on the pageant's website, she described herself as
"dedicated" and said she would someday like to go into government,
specifically as a diplomat for her country.

She also said that she liked playing volleyball and soccer, eating
Honduran food and performing the country's traditional punta dance.

Julia Morley, the chairman of the Miss World pageant, said contestants
will hold a special service Sunday to honor Alvarado and her sister
and offer prayers for their families.

"We are devastated by this terrible loss of two young women, who were
so full of life," Morley said.

Honduras has the world's highest murder rate, the United Nations
reported earlier this year, with 90.4 homicides per 100,000 people in
2012.

South Africa Bafana Bafana have scuttled the dream of Nigeria's Super
Eagles to defend their crown at the African Cup of Nations in
Equatorial Guinea as they stunned Nigeria with 2-0 lead before the
Eagles levelled the game at 2-2.

Bafana Bafana, who had boasted they would beat the Nigerians at home
for the first time, made good their pledge when they scored the first
goal towards the end of the first half in the match; played on
Wednesday at the new Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Uyo.

The South Africans also opened the second half with another goal,
completely throwing the Nigerians into confusion, with Governor

Three Female Police Officers Stripped In Public

Three female police officers who went to make an arrest at Oregbeni
quarters in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo State were on
Wednesday beaten and stripped naked.

The police officers are currently receiving treatment at an
undisclosed hospital.

They were invited by a landlady in the area to arrest one of her
tenants when a fracas ensued.

The Nation gathered that trouble started when the tenant insisted on
taking her bath before going to the police station but the police
officers said she should follow them.

A fracas ensued and other residents in the area joined the tenant to
beat and stripped the police officers.

The landlady who gave her name as Mrs. Okebuse said she invited the
police because she had given the tenants quit notice.

She said, "When the police came to make arrest, they started fighting
the police. I ran for my life and hid in the other compound."

An eyewitness said the landlady uses police to harass her tenants.

"The woman was taking her bath and the police officers refused to
allow the woman to take her bath," the eyewitness said.

The state's Police Commissioner, Foluso Adebanjo, who expressed
disappointment at the attack, said the police would not take the
attack likely.

Adebanjo said the attackers would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

He said suspects arrested have already been charged to court.

members from wearing Manchester United jerseys to church services.
