APGA To Adopt Jonathan As Presidential Candidate

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will on December 17, 2014
hold a Special National Convention where the appointment of the
Anambra State Governor Chief Wiliie Obiano as its leader and Chairman
of the Board of Trustees (BOT) will be ratified.

While at the convention, the party will also adopt President Goodluck
Jonathan as its presidential candidate. It will also approve and adopt
the amended Constitution of the party.

The former governor of Anambra State, Dr Peter Obi had defected to the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while he was waiting for his position
as APGA BoT chair to be ratified.

While it seemed like the party's delay in ratifying his position as
party leader made him defect, it is believed in the party, that Obi
defected to the PDP because he anticipated a ministerial appointment.
The former governor has also always enjoyed a cordial relationship
with the presidency.

With Obiano being Obi's protege, the decision of APGA to ratify his
appointment soon, is seen as a smart move, and a decision that is key
to the continued existence of the party.

The party's adoption of Jonathan as its candidate for the 2015
election may however be an indication that the ties between the PDP
and APGA while Obi was governor of Anambra may still be intact.
