A Reverend Father, Francis Ugoo Egbebu, the parish priest of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, Umuola, Amaigbo, Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State, has been kidnapped.
According to the report, it was not clear where the priest was abducted, but it was gathered that the kidnappers had contacted close relations of the priest and demanded N5 million as ransom.
Father Egbebu, who is the first vicar of the parish, resumed duties on November 2014 when the parish was created and inaugurated by the Catholic Bishop of Orlu Diocese, Most Reverend Augustine Ukwuoma.
Confirming the kidnap to journalists, the parish council chairman, Mr. Adolphus Ogbonna, said: “We have heard the news of the kidnap of our parish priest. Some people said he was kidnapped around Owerri, while others said he was kidnapped in our community.”
When contacted, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Enwerem, said he was not aware of the kidnap, but assured that he would give details when he was fully briefed.
