Police Arrest Killers Of Customs Officer In Imo

Imo State police command has announced the arrest of two suspected
killers of an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, in Ngor
Okpala area of the state.

Commissioner of Police, CP, in charge of the state, CP Taiwo Lakanu,
disclosed yesterday at the command headquarters, Owerri and narrated
that some Customs officers who were on beat duty at Umuhu in Ngor
Okpala LGA along Owerri/Aba Road were attacked by some hoodlums who
killed one of them and made away with his AK47 riffle and Mazda 626
saloon car.

According to him, the suspects who he gave their names as; Chibuzor
Ike 'm' of Umuota Umuhu in Ngor Okpala and one Henry Ndubisi Simon 'm'
of No. 24 New Road, Amakohia in Owerri North LGA of the state were
nabbed following a painstaking investigation by operatives of the
command.

He hinted that Henry led the cops to the gang's hideout at World Bank
area in New Owerri where the AK47 and its magazine assigned to the
slain Customs officer were recovered with other items namely; one
Mazda 626 saloon car, one bucket containing IED materials, two small
batteries and one small rod.

He added that investigation is still ongoing and concerted efforts are
being made to apprehend other members of the gang for prosecution.

Continuing, the Imo police boss disclosed that a total of 19 suspects
were arrested and recovered two vehicles, 12 firearms in the last two
weeks, assuring Imolites that the command is poised to ensure they
enjoy a crime-free yuletide.

Among other suspects paraded were: one Christiantus Kenneth and
Uchenna Ogbuji, both males from Orji in Owerri North LGA arrested for
armed robbery, one Izunna Lawrence Ugwuagbara, a.k.a. Black Face 'm'
of Amaeze Ogii in Okigwe LGA also picked and held for armed robbery.

When interviewed, the suspected killers of the Customs officer
Chibuzor and Henry denied involvement in the crime but admitted the
items belonging to the slain officer were found in their custody when
arrested.
