Confirming the sad news to newsmen in a telephone chat,
Sunday, the police Public Relations Office, PPRO, in the
state, Mr Andrew Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent of
Police, DSP, said that the deceased was shot by yet to be
identified gunmen.
DSP Enwerem disclosed that the unfortunate incident took
place along the ever-busy Orji -Owerri road, Owerri, the state
capital, Sunday evening.
The PPRO enthused that chief Onyekele until his death was
a member of the state house assembly service
commission.
The police spokesperson who was unable to confirm the
reason for the assassination, said that the police in the
state have swung into action, promising to uncover the
identities of the perpetrators of the heinous crime very soon.
"As I speak to u now, we have confirmed the assassination
of one chief Tony Onyekele.beforehis untimely death, he was
a member of Imo state service commission. But I assure
you that investigations are on and soonest we will come up
with positive result".he stated.
We reliably gathered that chief Onyekele hailed from Ihitte
Uboma LGA of the state and was a chieftain of the All
Progressive Congress,APC.
