Tunisia's First Democratically Elected President Sworn-In

Tunisia's President Beji Caid Essebsi has pledged to work towards
national reconciliation after winning the country's first free
election.

After taking his oath of office, he told parliament he would be "the
president of all Tunisians".

The 88-year-old secured victory last week over incumbent Moncef Marzouki.

Mr Essebsi was speaker of parliament under President Zine al-Abidine
Ben Ali, who was ousted in 2011 in the first "Arab Spring" uprising.

Tunisia is the only Arab country to have moved from authoritarian rule
to democracy since a wave of popular uprisings spread across the
region.

On Monday, electoral authorities confirmed that Mr Essebsi had won a
run-off vote against Mr Marzouki.

Mr Essebsi's secular Nidaa Tounes also won the largest number of seats
in parliament, defeating the moderate Islamist party, Ennahda, in
October's elections.

"There is no future for Tunisia without consensus among political
parties and members of civil society," Mr Essebsi said in his
inaugural speech.

His critics say his election victory marks the return of the former
establishment, pointing out that he served under President Ben Ali,
and was also interior minister under the country's first president
Habib Bourguiba.

Journalist Naveena Kottoor in Tunis says that while this is a
democratic milestone for Tunisia, many in the country are arguing that
political transition will only succeed if newly-elected politicians
usher in social and economic changes.

This month's vote was the first time Tunisians have been able to vote
freely for their president since independence from France in 1956.

The new president will have restricted powers under a constitution
passed earlier this year.

He will be commander-in-chief of the armed forces but can appoint or
sack senior officers only in consultation with the prime minister.

Bishop Slams Obasanjo Over Constant Criticism Of Jonathan

The Anglican Bishop of Okigwe, Rt. Rev. Dr. Edward Osuegbu, has
described as shocking, the continuous attack on President Goodluck
Jonathan by Former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He accused Obasanjo of having done "similar or worse things while in office".

"Some of us who have been watching for many years now, know that it is
the kettle calling the pot black. Obasanjo did similar things he is
accusing the incumbent of and even worse", Osuegbu told Vanguard.

According to him, Obasanjo is now taking pleasure in criticizing and
calling Jonathan names. "That is most unfair," the cleric said.

Osuegbu noted that such criticisms had never come from any past
President of the United States of America, saying real statesmen only
advise the incumbents and nobody hears about it.

"They do not make noise if their advice is not taken by the incumbent.
It is also noteworthy that no former President of the USA has ever
castigated President Barrack Obama. This does not mean that Obama is
infallible," the Bishop said.

While past presidents of America respected the office of the President
of USA as if their lives depended on it, "in our own case, a former
president is at the fore front of criticizing, castigating and
attacking an incumbent President with a view to destroying the
system," the Anglican cleric lamented.

Nine People Killed In Canadian City Of Edmonton Mass Murder

Seven adults and two children have been found dead in the Canadian
city of Edmonton after a man carried out what police called a
"senseless mass murder" linked to "extreme domestic violence".

The gunman is believed to have killed himself after the murders.
Police are not looking for any other suspects.

The suspected killer, whose relatives said was "suicidal", shot to
death a woman in her 30s in the south of the city of nearly one
million people before heading to a residence in the north where he
killed another seven people - three women, two men, a girl and a boy.

According to witnesses cited by the Edmonton Journal, the owner of the
house where the seven bodies were found, had experienced financial
difficulties.

Police chief Rod Knecht said it was the worst mass killing in Edmonton
since six people were killed in 1956.

"This series of events are not believed to be random acts, and there
is no risk to the broader public. These events do not appear to be
gang-related, but rather tragic incidents of domestic violence."

Police say that the gunman used a stolen 9mm handgun and later killed
himself at a restaurant north of Edmonton. They have only released the
names of one of the victims and have not detailed the relationship
between the shooter and his victims.

Mr Knecht said that the man, who committed suicide, had a criminal
record going back to 1987.

Mass killings and gun crime are relatively rare in Canada compared to
the neighboring United States, where gun ownership is much more
widespread.

UNSC Rejects Resolution On Palestinian State

The UN Security Council has rejected a Palestinian resolution calling
for peace with Israel within a year and an end to Israel's occupation
by 2017.

The resolution failed to muster the minimum nine "yes" votes required
in the council for adoption.

The motion received eight "yes" votes, including from Russia and
France, two "no" votes from the United States and Australia, and five
abstentions.

Riyad Mansour, Palestinian ambassador to the UN, criticised the world
body for the failure of the vote.

"The Security Council has once again failed to uphold its charter
duties to address this crises and to meaningfully contribute to a
lasting solution in accordance with its own resolutions," Mansour
said.

"This year, our people under Israeli occupation endured the further
theft and colonisation of their land, the demolition of their homes,
daily military raids, arrests and detention of thousands of civilians
including children, rampant settler terrorism, constant affronts to
their human dignity and repeated incursions at our holiest sites."

Following the vote, the US, Israel's closest ally, reiterated its
opposition to the draft resolution.

Samantha Power, the US ambassador to the UN, said the resolution
undermined efforts to "achieve two states for two people".

"It is deeply imbalanced and contains many elements that are not
conducive to negotiations between the parties including unconstructive
deadlines that take no account for Israelis legitimate security
concerns," she said.

Gambia President Returns Home After Reports Of Attempted Coup

Gambia's President Yahya Jammeh arrived back in Banjul on Wednesday,
official sources said, one day after gunfire erupted around the
presidential palace and the government denied media reports of a coup
attempt.

Jammeh was in France or Dubai when violence broke out and he returned
home via N'Djamena, where he told officials from Chad during a
refueling stop on Tuesday evening that he planned to return home.

Jammeh, 49, himself took power in a coup 20 years ago and since then
has stifled dissent in his impoverished West African nation. He has
come under increasing criticism from abroad over issues ranging from
human rights to his claims he can cure AIDS.

Banks reopened on Wednesday, people headed to work and the city's key
Denton Bridge was also open, witnesses said.

On Tuesday, state radio played traditional music and an announcer read
a government statement playing down the incident.

"Contrary to rumours being circulated, peace and calm continue to
prevail in The Gambia," it said. "(The) government would like to urge
the public and all businesses to continue with their normal
activities."

Gambia, a splinter of land wedged into Senegal, has ocean beaches that
attract tourists, particularly during the northern hemisphere's
winter. They include about 60,000 Britons a year. The British foreign
office advised its citizens to stay indoors and avoid public
gatherings.

Witnesses in the centre of Banjul, which is situated on an island and
connected to rest of the city by the Denton Bridge, said on Tuesday
that security forces were stationed on street corners and patrolled
streets after hours of shooting earlier in the day.

This year the European Union withdrew millions of dollars in aid,
shortly after Jammeh signed into law an act that could imprison
homosexuals for life. In 2012, he was criticised for executing nine
people being held in prison.

Real Madrid End 2014 With Defeat Against AC MilanIn Dubai Friendly

Stephan El Shaarawy scored twice as AC Milan became the first side to
defeat Real Madrid since September in a 4-2 friendly win in Dubai.

With the trio of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and James Rodriguez not
included in Real's starting XI; Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock
for the La Liga leaders.

But El Shaarawy came up with goals on either side of the interval to
pull the Italians ahead before Frenchman Jeremy Menez and Giampaolo
Pazzini sealed victory.

Real came into the friendly match on a 22-game winning streak in all
competitions following a 2-0 win over Argentine club San Lorenzo de
Almagro at the Fifa Club World Cup final in Morocco.

Substitute Benzema converted from the penalty spot in the closing
stages but it was too little to stop the European champions from
ending 2014 with a defeat.

It was also the 'Los Blancos's' first match in their crested world
champions jersey.

"How My Husband Defiled Our 9-Yr-Old Daughter, Impregnated Another"

A 55-year-old man, identified as Osaro, has been arrested by men of
the Edo State Police Command for allegedly defiling his nine-year-old
daughter.

Osaro, according to his wife, Stella, had earlier impregnated their
17-year-old daughter, just as she told newsmen at the Ogida Police
Division, Benin, that she recently returned to her husband's house
after he said he had repented.

She said: "My husband wanted to sleep with my second daughter. He
later succeeded in sleeping with my other daughter. After impregnating
the girl, he begged me several times to forgive him.

"He started the church I attended and confessed what he had done. The
church members begged me and I accepted him. He has already paid my
bride price so I went back.

"After we had settled, my husband started with our daughter again. The
little girl told me what she was going through in the hands of her
father. I asked my husband, but he denied. He said he had stopped the
act since he repented.

"One afternoon, I caught him with our daughter. I went to the church
and vowed that I cannot continue with the marriage. I am tired of
forgiving him all the time.

"On Christmas Day, he drove me outside at about 8 p.m. He was alone
inside with the children. The next day, my daughter told me what he
did to her. When I decided to check my daughter's private part, he
wanted to beat me, but neighbours intervened."

The victim asked police to jail her father.

Justin Bieber Didn't Buy Any Jet, He Chartered It

According to new reports,JustinBieberdidn't buy any jet, he leased the
private jet. The singer who is worth about $200m shared photos of the
jet which costs around$60m.

TMZ revealed that Bieber posed with the jet and merely chartered it
for a Christmas flight from Canada to NYC.

"TMZ has learned the jet Bieber posed on is a G4, which is for sale
but was not purchased by JB. Sources with direct knowledge of the
aircraft tell us Justin merely chartered it for a Christmas flight
from Canada to NYC. In other words, just a really expensive Uber.

Justin captioned the pic "New jet for Christmas, and she's beautiful"
prompting many to believe he'd just made the biggest purchase of his
life. Not so though it's true that it was new to him, and the 22-seat
ride is undeniably beautiful.

We were always skeptical since Justin's reportedly worth about $200
mil and a brand new G could run up to $60 million. Even for Bieber,
that would be a huge hit.

Biebs pulled this back in April too posing with a Bugatti (it was
Birdman's) and a yacht (it belonged to a FL fam)

The good news? We're told the 1996 G4 is still on the market for just
under $60 million if you've got it like that"

I Don't Expect Your Praises Now; You Will Know My Worth After I'm Gone --Jonathan

The administration of President Goodluck Jonathan is arguably the most
widely criticized in the history of democracy in Nigeria, especially
due to the several economic challenges being faced at this time.
Regardless of negative comments about his administration, the
president has said that Nigerians will appreciate the good works he
has done for the country after he might have left office.

The president said this on Tuesday, when he received a delegation from
Bayelsa State who paid him a visit as part of the Christmas
celebration.

"The new year is full of challenges. Everywhere will be hot from the
2nd of January. I am here by the grace of God and the will of
Nigerians," Jonathan said.

He continued: "If I don't do well the shame will be on you. I will do
my best. I don't expect praises now. It's when you leave that people
will begin to compare you with others. I will do my best to address
all the challenges we are having. I will do my best so that when I
leave the people will compare what I have done and what others before
me have done.

"The seat belongs to the country and it is only the country that can
decide who occupies it," he said.

President Jonathan however enjoined the people of Bayelsa state to
pray for the country. He promised that he will continue to do his best
for the country.

Governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson, while speaking, said the
delegation visited Jonathan to show solidarity with him, as well as
express appreciation to Nigerians for supporting Jonathan thus far.

"We are here to show solidarity and to let everybody know that your
people in Bayelsa are with you. It is in the spirit of Christmas that
we are here on behalf of the people of Bayelsa to wish you, your
government and family compliments of the season and a very happy,
prosperous and victorious 2015," Dickson said.

"We bring you prayers and strong message of solidarity. We are here to
thank Nigerians for their support for your government," he added.

31 Dead, Seven Missing In Philippines Storm

Flash floods and landslides triggered by Tropical Storm Jangmi have
left at least 31 people dead and seven missing in the Philippines,
including in areas still recovering from last year's Typhoon Haiyan,
officials have said.

Jangmi, packing winds of 65 kilometres per hour and gusts of 80 kph,
had dumped heavy rains on southern Mindanao Island.

Floods destroyed bridges and highways, sending thousands of residents
to evacuation centres.

The storm then pushed its way through eastern and central islands,
where most of the deaths occurred on Tuesday.

The government weather bureau said that as of late Tuesday afternoon,
the eye of the storm was 140 kilometres southwest of central Iloilo
City, moving west at 19kph towards western Palawan Island.

Mayor Stephanie Uy-Tan said 12 people died when a landslide buried two
vans and six houses near a mountainside highway in eastern Catbalogan
City.

She said voices could still be heard from one of the vans and that
rescue efforts were ongoing.

Olive Luces, a regional civil defence official, said 11 members of a
family died after a creek-side house where they had gathered was
washed away by flash floods in central Cebu province.

Six other people were missing in the same town.

In eastern Leyte province's Tanauan town, which was devastated last
year by Typhoon Haiyan, army rescuers retrieved five bodies from a
house buried by landslide.

A 65-year-old man died due to drowning in southern Compostela Valley
province, while another resident remains missing after crossing a
swollen river.

In central Bohol province, an 80-year old man drowned to death, while
a 10-year-old girl died in a landslide that hit her home in southern
Butuan City, officials said.

Man Returns Stolen Tablet When He Couldn't Make It Work

A man has been fined for stealing a tablet computer from a charity
store and returning it eight days later because he couldn't get it to
work. UPIreports:

Christopher Hooson, 33, was recorded by CCTV camerastaking the Android
tablet from the window display at the Jonny Kennedy store in Whitley
Bay, England. Store workers recognized him from the footage when he
came back eight days later to return the tablet, which prosecutors
said he was unable to work because he did not have the necessary
"equipment."

Prosecutor Lynne Russell said the tablet taken during the Nov. 11
theft was valued at about $78.

"He was taken to the police station. He admitted taking the item. He
said he saw it in the window and thought it would be cheap or free, as
it was in a charity shop, so took it," Russell said. "He took it and
realized it didn't work without further equipment, so returned it to
the shop." Hooson initially told the court the theft was an accident.
"I didn't intend to steal it. I forgot I had it in my bag, so I
returned it when I noticed."

Hooson, who admitted his version of events "sounds ridiculous,"
eventually admitted during questioning by District Judge Bernard
Begley that his story was not true. "It's not very nice to steal from
a charity shop. At least some sense eventually returned to you and you
returned the item. However, it is a particularly mean offense," Begley
said.

AirAsia Flight QZ8501 Crash: 40 Bodies From Missing Plane Found And 'Emergency Slide And Plane Door' Spotted

At least 40 bodies have been spotted and six recovered from missing
AirAsia Flight QZ8501 amid reports that the plane door and emergency
slide belonging to the passenger jet have been found and a "shadow"
spotted on the seabed.

Around 10 objects have been found in the Java Sea, roughly six miles
from where the plane lost contact with air traffic control, including
what Indonesian air force officials claim are items resembling a plane
door and emergency slide and the shadow of what appeared to be the
outline of the Flight QZ8501 just under the water.

Rescue efforts are being hampered by 20 knot winds and strong waves,
however, additional ships are en route to discovery site according to
Indonesia's defence minister Ng Eng Hen.

A press conference held this evening (local time) said that permitting
weather conditions recovery teams would continue through the night
with additional divers and underwater survey ships arriving to help.

First Lieutenant Tri Wibowo, who was on board a Hercules during the
first search operation, described finding the debris: "We thought that
the passengers were still alive and waved at us for help. But when we
approached closer [we saw] they were already dead."

"As we approached, the body seemed bloated," he told national
Indonesian newspaperKompas.

National Search and Rescue Director SB Supriyadi later told reporters
in Pangkalan Bun that bodies had been brought onto an Indonesian ship.
The bodies, found off the coast of Borneo about 105 miles south of the
town, were not reportedly wearing life jackets.

Indonesian navy spokesman Manahan Simorangkir told AFP: "Based on the
navy radio, it has been reported that the warship Bung Tomo has
retrieved 40 bodies and the number is growing".

The bodies are due to be identified at Bhayangkara Hospital, Surabaya,
east Java, although the condition of the bodies remains unclear that
may affect identification.

my condolences". He has arrived in Surabaya to see families and is
reported as appearing "utterly dejected."

The company has released a statement confirming the find and offering
"sincere sympathies" to the families of passengers and crew members.

Indonesia's vice-president is due to give a press conference in
Jakarta shortly, as the president travels to Surabaya to meet families
and view the crash site.

Search and Rescue Agency chief Henry Bambang Soelistyo told reporters
"more than one" body had been recovered.

During the press conference, held at around 2pm local time, he said
that search teams had seen a shadow underneath the water, allegedly in
the shape of a plane.

Yusef Latif, a spokesperson for the Indonesian Search and Rescue team,
said an Indonesian military aircraft saw white, red and black objects,
including what appears to be a life jacket. AirAsia's livery is red
and white.

Relatives of the families were visibly upset when local TV channels
aired footage of the discovery, some of which appeared to show not
only the debris but also a floating body.

Very difficult to hear the screaming and crying relatives. They've
been waiting for a miracle, but had to watch the worst possible news.--

Ebola Case Confirmed In Glasgow Hospital

A healthcare worker who has just returned from West Africa has been
diagnosed with Ebola and is being treated in hospital in Glasgow.

The woman, who arrived from Sierra Leone on Sunday night, is in
isolation at Glasgow's Gartnavel Hospital.

All possible contacts with the case are being investigated, including
on flights to Scotland via Heathrow.

UK Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt confirmed that the woman would be
taken to a specialist unit in London.

She will be flown from Glasgow and taken to the Royal Free Hospital in
north London"as soon as we possibly can," Mr Hunt said.

The hospital has a specialist isolation unit and treated William
Pooley, the British nurse who contracted and recovered from Ebola.

Low risk

Mr Hunt said the government was doing "absolutely everything it needs
to be" to keep the UK safe.
He insisted NHS processes "worked well" after the woman starting
exhibiting symptoms.

The health secretary added: "We are also reviewing our procedures and
protocols for all the other NHS workers who are working at the moment
in Sierra Leone."

Charity Save the Children confirmed the woman was an NHS health worker
who was working with them at the Ebola Treatment Centre in Kerry Town,
Sierra Leone.

The organisation's humanitarian director, Michael von Bertele, said:
"Save the Children is working closely with the UK government, Scottish
government and Public Health England to look into the circumstances
surrounding the case."

At a news conference in Glasgow, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon
stressed that the risk to the general public was very low.

She added that the patient was thought to have had contact with only
one other person since arriving in the city, but that all passengers
on the flights the woman took will be traced.

Ms Sturgeon said: "Apart from other passengers on the flights and
obviously the hospital staff since this patient's admittance to
hospital, she, the patient is thought to have had contact with only
one other person in Scotland since returning to Scotland last night
and that person will also be contacted and given appropriate
reassurance."

Alisdair MacConachie, of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said: "She's
being managed in an isolation facility by staff who are comfortable
managing patients in such a situation. She herself is quite stable and
is not showing any great clinical concern at the minute."

NHS Scotland said infectious diseases procedures had been put into
effect at the Brownlee Unit for Infectious Diseases at Gartnavel.

Ebola is transmitted by direct contact with the bodily fluids - such
as blood, vomit or faeces - of an infected person.

The patient returned to Scotland from Sierra Leone late on Sunday via
Casablanca and London Heathrow, arriving into Glasgow Airport on a
British Airways flight at about 23:30.

While public health experts have emphasised that the risks are
negligible, a telephone helpline has been set up for anyone who was on
the BA 1478 Heathrow to Glasgow flight. The number is:08000 858531

The woman had been admitted to hospital early on Monday morning after
feeling unwell and was placed into isolation at 07.50.

What are the symptoms?

The Ebola virus causes a range of painful and debilitating symptoms
The early symptoms are a sudden fever, muscle pain, fatigue, headache
and sore throat.

This is followed by vomiting, diarrhoea, a rash and bleeding - both
internal and external - which can be seen in the gums, eyes, nose and
in the stools.

Patients tend to die from dehydration and multiple organ failure.

A British Airways spokesman said: "We are working closely with the
health authorities in England and Scotland and will offer assistance
with any information they require.

"The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our top
priority and the risk to people on board that individual flight is
extremely low."

Ms Sturgeon has chaired a meeting of the Scottish Government
Resilience Committee (SGoRR) and has also spoken to Prime Minister
David Cameron.

Mr Hunt is to chair a meeting of the Cobra emergency committee on
Monday evening.

Ms Sturgeon said: "Our first thoughts at this time must be with the
patient diagnosed with Ebola and their friends and family. I wish them
a speedy recovery.

"Scotland has been preparing for this possibility from the beginning
of the outbreak in West Africa and I am confident that we are well
prepared."

Cameroon Launches Air Strikes On Boko Haram

Cameroon says its military has carried out the first round of air
strikes against Boko Haram in northern Nigeria, after the group
overran a military base, and attacked five villages.

Army spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Didier Badjeck, confirmed that
about 1,000 militants attacked the villages, including Amchide, and
seized the nearby Achigachia military base, where they raised their
black flag.

He also confirmed the Cameroonian President, Paul Biya, had ordered
the Air Force to intervene, and force the militants out.

He said that the air strikes would be a lesson to Boko Haram that it
faced a hard reaction if it attacked Cameroon again, as the government
is determined to use all its capability to protect its territory.

Cameroon's Information Minister, Issa Bakary said that at least 34
militants were killed after the army raided one of their bases in
Cameroon, while another seven were killed in a separate clash which
also claimed the life of a soldier.

He said that the multiple attacks showed that Boko Haram had adopted a
new strategy aimed at "distracting Cameroonian troops on different
fronts, making them more vulnerable in the face of the mobility and
unpredictability of their attacks".

About a week before this, Cameroon said it had dismantled a Boko Haram
training camp on its territory, and had seized 84 children who were
being trained there.

Assassin Who Shot Pope John Paul II Visits Grave With Flowers!

A former Assassin, Mehmet Ali Agca, who shot and injured former Pope,
John Paul II in 1981 has laid flowers on the dead pontiff's tomb in
the Vatican.

56-year-old Agca told the police he felt the need to make the gesture,
according to a report by Italian media.

The visit comes 31 years after the late pope John Paul II visited Agca
in prison and forgave him for the attempt on his life.

The Pope was left seriously injured, with one bullet passing through
his abdomen and another narrowly missing his heart.

The former assassin served 19 years in jail for attempted murder but
the motive behind the shooting is yet to be uncovered.

He spent another 10 years in prison in Turkey on charges related to
the earlier murder of a newspaper editor.

Reports say Agca laid white roses at the tomb of the late Pope on
Saturday, in his first visit to the Vatican since his attack on John
Paul II on 13 May 1981.

However, Agca's request for a face-to-face meeting with Pope Francis
has been denied by Vatican officials a second time.

"He has put flowers on the tomb of John Paul II. I think that is
enough," Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi told La Repubblica
newspaper.

Bill Cosby Is Set To Pay Six Figure Amount To Discredit Alleged Rape Victims' Stories

Bill Cosby is definitely working hard to rid himself of the many
alleged rape stories thrown at him and his legendary career. He has
refused to give any official statements stating whether or not he was
truly involved but Bill Cosby Is Set To Pay Six Figure Amount To
Discredit Alleged Rape Victim's Stories.

According to the New York Post, the legendary comedian has paid
private investigators six-figure fees to dig up dirt on the many women
who have claimed to have been raped by him. The investigating firm is
said to be from Glendale, California.

The 77 year-old comedian spoke with his legal and public relations
team about the scandal, and this is what he had to say:

"If you're going to say to the world that I did this to you, then the
world needs to know, 'What kind of person are you? Who is this person
that's saying it?' ' Cosby said, according to an anonymous source who
was present at the meeting.

You can't say that I put something in your coffee, threw you in a cab
and then you go on and live a high-profile life, a famous life and you
never complain. You mean you never reported it to the police? You
never tell anyone?' Cosby continued, referring to one of his accusers,
Beverly Johnson."

One of the accusers, Johnson earlier claimed that he raped her after
putting a drug into her cappuccino during a visit to his home in the
1980s. Another source confirmed the tactic and said it has already
been successful in finding information to discredit both Johnson and
another alleged victim, Katherine McKee.

T.B. Joshua Releases Video In Which He Allegedly Predicted The AirAsia Plane Incident In Indonesia

The disappearance of the Air Asia flight Q8501 is no longer news. It's
really scary the rate at which planes are disappearing these days.

Anyway, Prophet T.B. Joshua has released a video via his YouTube
channel Emmanuel TV showing a purported prophecy he gave regarding the
mysterious disappearance of Air Asia Flight 8501 in Indonesia this
morning.

"I have a message for the nation, Indonesia," Joshua is seen telling
congregants in the video. "When it comes to this disaster issue, I
don't want to mention it," the cleric continued, before calling on the
faithful to pray for the Asian nation.

"It looks so nasty to me to mention - a situation where it will cost a
lot of lives, suddenly," he went on. "This is a crash. Why should this
continue to happen there?"

Joshua goes on to point to a problem in the 'geographical
atmosphere',calling on the relevant authorities to 'look into it'.

Early in the morning on Sunday 28th December 2014, an Air Asia
passenger jet carrying 162 people lost contact with Indonesian air
traffic control.

The plane went missing after pilots asked to change course to avoid
bad weather during a flight from Indonesia's Surabaya city to
Singapore.

On board were 155 Indonesians, three South Koreans and one each from
Singapore, Malaysia and Britain, plus a French pilot.

"We pray that God would strengthen the friends and family members of
all those involved in this tragic incident,"Joshua wrote at the end of
the YouTube clip.

T.B. Joshua is alleged to have prophesied two other major
plane-related incidents this year, namely the disappearance of
Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 and the shooting down of Flight MH17
on the border of Ukraine and Russia.

Lagos DPO Slumps, Dies In Office

(Photo: Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti)

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Ijede Police Station,
Nwaoha Uzoma, has died.

PUNCH reports that Uzoma's corpse was found in his office on Thursday,
a day after he entered and locked himself in.

It was gathered that after he did not pick his calls, anxious
relatives and policemen in the station broke the door open and saw his
lifeless body on the floor.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Uzoma, a Superintendent of Police, was
formerly heading the Anthony Police Division, before he was posted to
Ijede, in the Ikorodu area, early in December.

PUNCH correspondent gathered that the deceased, who was married with
children, was in his fifties.

A police source said, "The DPO was posted from Anthony to Ijede around
December 5. At that time, he had an illness, which was not very
serious. He was a friendly man who could sometime become angry and
that's when you offend him. But once he showed his anger and you
begged him, he forgave and that would end it.

"On the day of the incident, he entered his office and shut himself
in. People didn't suspect anything because he sometimes slept there.
People didn't see him come out throughout that day and then the next
day, they called his phone repeatedly but he didn't pick it.

"That was how people became suspicious and broke the door. They found
his corpse on the floor."

The police were said to have evacuated the corpse and deposited it in
a private mortuary.

Another police source, who claimed to be close to the deceased, told
our correspondent that he saw him few days to his death and he was
looking healthy.

He said, "I still saw him at a meeting where he was all smiles and
didn't show any sign of sickness. I was told he slumped and died in
his office."

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu,
while confirming the incident on Sunday, explained that the police had
yet to ascertain the cause of death.

He said, "On December 25, at about 8am, SP Nwaoha Uzoma, was found
dead in his office at the Ijede Police Station. His corpse was removed
and deposited at St. Raphael Hospital morgue for autopsy."

Incredible Uses Of Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is one of those plants that people have loved for centuries.
In fact, it was first found by Carl Linnaeus in 1773! Aloe Vera has
been used for many things including cuts, infections and burns. But,
this item is not used just for its medicinal benefits. It also has a
variety of health benefits as well. If you are interested in taking
aloe vera for any health related issues or you want to know more about
this amazing plant, continue reading below for some of the health
issues it can help with.

1- Incredibly Healthy and High In Vitamins and Minerals

Out of all the plants you should consider to include in your diet,
this should be one of them. Not only does Aloe Vera have Vitamin A, C
and E, but it also include folic acid, Choline, B6, B3, B2 and B1.
Also, very little plants actually have B12, but Aloe Vera IS one of
those plants.

2- High in Fatty Acids and Amino Acids

When it comes to amino acids, your body absolutely needs them. In
fact, for your body to function or even function correctly, it needs
around 22 amino acids and needs 8 that are essential. Scientists say
that aloe vera has one of the highest ranges and has around 18-20
amino acids including ALL your 8 essential amino acids. That's
absolutely fantastic and almost unheard of.

3- Aids in Indigestion

These days, almost everyone has a digestive issue, whether it be
something mind like acid reflux or something more serious like
esophagitis. When your digestive tract works correctly it usually
means you are healthy. When it doesn't work correctly, something is
obviously wrong with your digestive tract, esophagus, throat or
stomach. Having these health issues can really be upsetting and
stressful, but using something as simple as aloe vera juice is a
fantastic way to aid in soothing the tract and all the different parts
of your body where your food goes on the way down to your tract.

4- Detoxify Your Body

Like most other gelatinous foods like chia seeds and seaweeds, aloe is
very healthy and beneficial when it comes to moving through your
intestinal tract. Yes, gelatinous foods like these ones listed can
move through your tract and pick up any toxins along the way.

5- Curing Your Gums

If you have inflammation in your mouth along the gum line, aloe vera
can help with that as well as helping to get bacteria off of your
teeth and gums and because it ultimately has no taste it's a good
option for a mouth wash. Beyond just inflamed gums, it has also shown
evidence to cure ulcers and reduce bleeding from those ulcers.

6- Skin Cures

While this is not something you would drink, it is something you can
put on your face to help with things like sun spots, acne and
blemishes. It works internally and uses the vitamins and minerals in
the aloe vera to naturally fight inflammation, infections and bacteria
which is why it makes such a good option for derma-tissue. Aloe vera
also has a very high quantity of water, so while it can get rid of
acne and blemishes it can also help hydrate your skin. In its gel
form, aloe vera can be used to make your skin more supple, moisturize
your skin, and reduce inflammation from things like shaving.

7- Hair Benefits

Dirt, dust, pollution and the sun can make your hair dry and
incredibly brittle - split ends anyone?!?! Thankfully, aloe vera has a
lot of moisture which means it can get rid of split ends and dandruff.

What Happened To AirAsia Flight QZ8501?

A day after it disappeared en route from east Java in Indonesia to
Singapore, mystery surrounds the fate of AirAsia flight QZ8501 and the
162 people on board.

No debris from the Airbus A320-200 has so far been recovered, and
Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency chief Bambang Soelistyo
said Monday "the hypothesis is the plane is at the bottom of the sea".

Following are some questions surrounding the disappearance and search,
and answers by industry experts.

Q: What impact could bad weather have played on the plane's fate?

Air traffic controllers lost contact with the twin-engine aircraft
around an hour after it left Juanda International airport at Surabaya
in East Java at 5:35 am Sunday (2235 GMT Saturday).

Shortly before disappearing, AirAsia said the plane had asked
permission from Jakarta air traffic control to deviate from its flight
plan and climb above bad weather in an area noted for severe
thunderstorms.

Gerry Soejatman, a consultant with the Jakarta-based Whitesky Aviation
chartered flight provider, said the verdict is still out on whether
bad weather conditions was the "primary factor or just a contributory
factor" for the disappearance.

"Based on the public information we have, the pilots turned to the
left of its designated route, and also requested to climb to a higher
altitude," Soejatman told AFP.

"Approval was given for the left turn but there are indications the
plane climbed without approval. If that is the case, the turbulence
could have been severe and the pilots made a decision to save the
aircraft rather than wait for approval," he added.

Anthony Brickhouse, a member of the International Society of Air
Safety Investigators, said it "is not atypical to have a
pre-programmed flight path and then something happens and the pilots
try to adjust it".

"Airliners in general tend to avoid thunderstorms as much as possible
to give passengers a smoother ride," Brickhouse, an assistant
professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, told AFP.

"Right now, the fact that they were trying to avoid bad weather
doesn't tell us a lot in the grand scheme of things."

Q. Have there been other plane mysteries like this?

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared while flying from Kuala
Lumpur to Beijing on March 8 with 239 passengers and crew.

The Boeing 777-200 aircraft is believed to have crashed in the Indian
Ocean far off Australia's west coast after diverting off course for an
unknown reason and flying for several more hours over the remote
waters.

An intense air and sea search failed to find any wreckage from the
aircraft, while an underwater search has been underway for weeks with
no result.

Air France Flight 447 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in June 2009
while on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, killing 216 passengers
and 12 crew. Debris was not found for days and it took years to locate
the wreckage. Investigators eventually concluded that both technical
and human error were to blame.

Adam Air Flight 574 with 102 people on board disappeared from radar in
January 2007, also at its cruise phase during a domestic flight in
Indonesia. Debris was found nine days later after an extensive search
and it took months to recover the plane's black box.

Indonesian authorities said the pilots lost control after becoming
preoccupied with malfunctioning navigational equipment.

Was Flight QZ8501 flying too slowly when it disappeared?

Some experts have said initial readings of radar data have shown the
plane was flying much slower than it should have been when it
disappeared.

In the Air France Flight AF447 crash in 2009, it is believed a
build-up of ice on "pitot tube" instruments caused the pilots to
receive distorted data on airspeed before the aircraft went down.

"Although any attempt to explain the reason for the disappearance of
the AirAsia flight is pure speculation at this time, we can't but
notice at least one apparent similarity with another famous crash: Air
France 447," wrote aviation blogger David Cenciotti on
theaviationist.com

He added that low ground speed could have been caused by strong headwinds.

Soejatman said early readings from a leaked air traffic control image
circulating online showed Flight QZ8501 was "extremely slow".

"If the plane happened to be going below stall speed, then well, you
will fall out of the sky," he said.

Can we rule out terrorism or a hijack attempt?

Experts say it is too early to rule out any possibility.

"As an investigator, I am trained to keep all possibilities on the
table until evidence suggest otherwise," said Brickhouse.

"Right now, I have not seen anything that could be associated with any
kind of criminal act."

Patience Jonathan Replies Gen. Buhari On Scrapping The Office Of The First Lady

General Buhari stated yesterday in an interview with Weekly Trust that
if elected as president in next year's presidential election, he would
abolish the office of the First Lady. The office, though not
constitutionally recognized, has been maintained by past and present
administrations and is even seen as being key in policy decisions. He
said that ministries, which are constitutional, should be allowed to
play their roles instead.

"There is the Ministry of Women Affairs, and so on. I was raised by my
mother, as I lost my father when I was under 6 yars, so I know what a
woman can do if given the chance".

In a subtle way of replying Buhari's comments, First Lady Dame
Patience Jonathan, emphasized the importance of the office of the
First Lady in the Nigerian politics, saying that the office has been
an avenue for mobilizing women for mass participation in politics.

She said this in Abia state during a reception organized for her by
the Ohuhu community, her maternal home in Umuahia North Local
Government Area of Abia state, yesterday.

She said the bid by politicians from the opposition camp to scrap the
office of the First Lady would amount to sending the Nigerian women
back to the kitchen if such came to fruition, adding,

"It is not our portion to go back to the kitchen. We have women that
are capable. We can contribute our quota to the development of
Nigeria".

She also told the women not to vote for any politician who doesn't
respect women.

The First Lady had veered off from the address she was reading at the
occasion when she directed the attention of guests to Buhari's idea
which she said was not practicable in the ongoing political
dispensation because of the critical role women have been playing in
politics.

In keeping with the spirit of boxing day on Friday Dec. 26th, some

disagreement in the constitution of a delegation to go for an
assignment. Some lawmakers ripped microphones off their tables and
used them as weapons to fight their colleagues.

10 Health Benefits Of Carrots

Forget about vitamin A pills. With this orange crunchy powerfood, you
get vitamin A and a host of other powerful health benefits including
beautiful skin, cancer prevention, and anti-aging. Read how to get
maximum benefits from this amazing vegetable.

Benefits of Carrots

1. Improved Vision

Western culture's understanding of carrots being "good for the eyes"
is one of the few we got right. Carrots are rich in beta-carotene,
which is converted into vitamin A in the liver. Vitamin A is
transformed in the retina, to rhodopsin, a purple pigment necessary
for night vision.

Beta-carotene has also been shown to protect against macular
degeneration and senile cataracts. A study found that people who eat
the most beta-carotene had 40 percent lower risk of macular
degeneration than those who consumed little.

2. Cancer Prevention

Studies have shown carrots reduce the risk of lung cancer, chest
cancer and colon cancer. Researchers have just discovered falcarinol
and falcarindiol which they feel cause the anticancer properties.

Falcarinol is a natural pesticide produced by the carrot that protects
its roots from fungal diseases. Carrots are one of the only common
sources of this compound. A study showed 1/3 lower cancer risk by
carrot-eating mice.

3. Anti-Aging

The high level of beta-carotene acts as an antioxidant to cell damage
done to the body through regular metabolism. It help slows down the
aging of cells.

4. Healthy Glowing Skin (from the inside)

Vitamin A and antioxidants protects the skin from sun damage.
Deficiencies of vitamin A cause dryness to the skin, hair and nails.
Vitamin A prevents premature wrinkling, acne, dry skin, pigmentation,
blemishes, and uneven skin tone.

5. A Powerful Antiseptic

Carrots are known by herbalists to prevent infection. They can be used
on cuts - shredded raw or boiled and mashed.

6. Beautiful Skin (from the outside)

Carrots are used as an inexpensive and very convenient facial mask.
Just mix grated carrot with a bit of honey.

7. Prevent Heart Disease

Studies show that diets high in carotenoids are associated with a
lower risk of heart disease. Carrots have not only beta-carotene but
also alpha-carotene and lutein.

The regular consumption of carrots also reduces cholesterol levels
because the soluble fibers in carrots bind with bile acids.

8. Cleanse the Body

Vitamin A assists the liver in flushing out the toxins from the body.
It reduces the bile and fat in the liver. The fibers present in
carrots help clean out the colon and hasten waste movement.

9. Healthy Teeth and Gums

It's all in the crunch! Carrots clean your teeth and mouth. They
scrape off plaque and food particles just like toothbrushes or
toothpaste. Carrots stimulate gums and trigger a lot of saliva, which
being alkaline, balances out the acid-forming, cavity-forming
bacteria. The minerals in carrots prevent tooth damage.

10. Prevent Stroke:

From all the above benefits it is no surprise that in a Harvard
University study, people who ate more than six carrots a week are less
likely to suffer a stroke than those who ate only one carrot a month
or less.

New Year Resolution: The Best Way To Make Your Resolution Stick

It is the end of the year--a time when millions of people make promises
to improve their lives and themselves. According to a recent Marist
Poll, 59 % of people kept their New Year resolutions in 2014. So what
is it that makes a resolution stick? One expert, Judith Beck, Ph.D. ,
president of the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy in
Philadelphia and a clinical associate professor of psychology at the
University of Pennsylvania, explains the benefits of a buddy system
and why vague goals fail.

For All Those Procrastinators
New Year's resolutions tend to encompass big commitments that people
have put off. "Usually these are things that are difficult to do,
otherwise we would have done them already," explains Dr. Beck.

The most common January goals focus on weight loss and better general
health, but nearly all of them fit into one of seven categories:
physical health, organization, relationships, how to spend leisure
time, spirituality, creativity and work. "Some people want to get back
to the way they used to be, and are committed to making a full-fledged
effort," Dr. Beck says of the goal-setters. "Others want to expand
themselves and feel more fulfilled in life."

The Stickiness Problem

As any visit to a gym in January will attest, most people can persist
with a resolution for a few weeks. But by February, that drive is
often depleted and the treadmills go empty. "There is some research to
show that people who start trying to lose weight because they've had a
medical scare are more successful than people who do it for another
reason," explains Dr. Beck. In other words, "Often the resolution will
stick if the stakes are very high."

Typically, though, people fail to stick to their annual goals because
the resolutions are too demanding, vague or unrealistic. "There can
also be external factors. If your objective is to spend more time with
family, you may need the cooperation of your teenagers to plan more
outings, for example," Dr. Beck says.

Learning to Cope

When people feel unmotivated or discouraged, says Dr. Beck, they have
unhelpful thoughts that interfere with working toward their goal. "So
you need to predict in advance what thoughts you might have, when
you're feeling more gung-ho--like now, before you've even started--and
write them down," says the cognitive-behavioral therapist. "Nobody is
taught how to get back on track when they make a mistake," she says,
but a person can take control of sabotaging thoughts by reading those
responses daily.

Dr. Beck also advises clients to imagine themselves in a year or five
years, both having reached their goals and establishing them as habits
and having failed.

"No-Choice" Category

Most people have some positive behaviors that they might not
consistently want to do but they decide to always do anyway. Dr. Beck
calls this the "no-choice category," and places putting on a seat belt
or getting dressed for work in this column. "We do them without
struggle because we don't give ourselves a choice," she says. "It's
the choice that makes sticking to a resolution so difficult." She
suggests putting positive behaviors on a mental "no-choice" list and
reaffirm them daily. "If you never give yourself the option to eat
dessert, you'll never have the struggle," she says.

Don't Wait to Motivate

Dr. Beck has witnessed firsthand that taking action sparks motivation.
"Once you actually get to the gym, the first minute may be difficult,
but it almost always gets easier," she says. She also says that the
best way to stick to a resolution is to have an accountability system,
whether that is an app or a partner, she says.

When you do put on those gym clothes, she adds, you need to
congratulate yourself. "Constant affirmation is essential to success,"
says Dr. Beck.
