APC, Buhari Should Blame Themselves For Nigerians’ High Expectation – PDP Chieftain

Former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ekiti State, Obafemi Adewale, has lambasted the All Progressives Congress (APC) for causing the high expectations of Nigerians.

He also accused the ruling party for the “needless crisis in the National Assembly”.

Assessing the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain told Daily Independent that though it was too early for such, members of the public were being hard on him and his party because they promised heaven on earth during the electioneering.

“They promised Eldorado, they promised paradise and they consciously raised the people’s expectations in their attempt to pull down the PDP government, led by Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. One thing people don’t realize is that talk is cheap, but walking the talk can be a little bit difficult in the face of reality. Now that the APC is in power, it is faced with the reality of governance.

“They are faced with the reality of the consequences of the fallen petroleum prices on our economy. They are faced with the reality of the expectations of the people. And that is why the public is asking question, that we have done so much what are we getting in return? From the steps the APC-led government has taken so far, it gives the people the impression that it did not really mean what it had promised, or it was not being sincere with the people.

“To that extent, one cannot sympathize with APC because the party is a master of propaganda. It believes in the Pull Down syndrome. And that was what they did to former president Jonathan, because the man was doing well. Now the APC has realized that the problems Jonathan was faced with are beyond what could be trivialized. I think it is APC that must be blamed for the unnecessarily high expectations of the people.”

On recent events at the National Assembly, Adewale insisted that what happened at the National Assembly was quite legitimate.

“There was an official schedule for the event, and if the APC lawmakers chose to go for a meeting at that appointed time, I think they are the people who engaged in impunity. The APC has been talking about one letter going to the clerk, let me state clearly that the party did not control the clerk. What happened in the National Assembly, for me, was just a dynamics of politics. It was an indication that indeed our democracy is coming of age.

“The APC was prepared to bring the roof down on Senator Bukola Saraki, forgetting that it set the pace in 2011 when it collaborated with some PDP legislators in the House of Representatives to install Hon. Aminu Tambuwal as speaker against the zoning arrangement of the PDP. At that time, the APC claimed that there nothing like zoning and that zoning was a contraption of the PDP. Now the APC is faced with the reality of zoning. We must learn to accommodate everybody and the APC is unable to cope with it.

“The best thing for us, the PDP, is watch the APC and let it expose its true nature to the public. If the PDP starts assessing the new government under one month, it would say what do you expect from them? One thing is sure: that what brought them together will certainly tear them apart,” Adewale added.
