The impeached Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Mr Sunday Onyebuchi, has
said that he will seek redress in the law court just for formality.
Mr Onyebuchi was impeached on Tuesday, after the State's lawmakers
considered a report of the investigating panel set up to look into the
allegations of gross misconduct against him.
The impeachment was the first item in the order paper for the day's
plenary, as the lawmakers gathered at the State House of Assembly's
complex.
The leader of the House, Sunday Udeh-Okoye, sought leave of the House
to enable him move a motion for the House's resolution in line with
the constitution to consider the report of the panel.
The motion was seconded by the deputy leader of the House, Kelvin
Okota, before the leader read out the motion and the Speaker, Mr
Eugene Odo, took the voice vote and there was unanimous agreement for
the House to adopt the report of the seven-man panel which has
indicted the deputy governor.
All the 24 members of the house were in attendance.
The Court Of God
However, Mr Onyebuchi responded to his impeachment, saying: "The court
of man has spoken but I will leave the rest to the court of God".
"I knew that they were up to something. I expected it and I prepared for it.
"When you have a House of Assembly where members could sign an
impeachment notice without any allegation being made available to
them. I don't think you will expect anything different.
"From the time the panel that was set up to investigate the
allegations commenced sitting and proceeding shot out the members of
the press, I knew that they were up to something. I would have been
surprised if the report had come out with anything different".
Mr Onyebuchi also said that though the impeachment incident was
expected, he bore no one any grudges as nothing happens without God's
knowledge.
