NFA Congress' Faction Sacks Electoral Committee, Fixes Sept. 4 In Abuja For Elections

A faction of the congress of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA)
has sacked the Electoral Committee of the football body, and fixed
Sept. 4 in Abuja for new board elections.

The congress, which met on Tuesday night in Abuja, cited gross
contravention of NFA Statutes 2010, NFA Electoral Code and the
guidelines for the forthcoming board elections.

The Amoni Biambo-led committee was dissolved by 40 of the congress
members present at the event.

The members had earlier condemned the committee's actions and
inaction, and noted that there was need to restore the confidence of
all stakeholders in the electoral process.

The congress went on to reconstitute the committee with the mandate
for it to conduct elections into the board on Sept. 4 in Abuja.

Seyi Akinwunmi, the Lagos Football Association (FA) chairman, who read
the communiqué to newsmen, said the new committee's members had a
herculean task of correcting the anomalies of the dissolved committee.

He gave the name of the new members to include M.T. Ahmed, Olumide
Oluyemi, Adams Osmond, Sadiq Zaria, Chimdi Ojiohu, Onyeaghala Obioma,
Adeola Adelawu and Sani Yakasai.

"Sampson Ebomhe will serve as the new electoral committee chairman,
while Musa Amadu, the NFA Secretary-General will serve as the
secretary,'' Akinwunmi said.

The congress also appointed a new Electoral Appeals Committee, with
Okey Ajunwa as Chairman, Dotun Coker and Sani Mohammed as members, and
Sanusi Mohammed as Secretary.

Akinwunmi also said chairmen of the three lower leagues would join the
new NFA board when inaugurated on Sept. 4.

The league chairmen are Emeka Inyama of the Nigeria National League
(NNL), Ahmed Kawu of the Nigeria Nationwide League (NNWL) and
Dilichukwu Onyedimma of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).

Akinwunmi said they would be joining the new board pending the conduct
of elections into the boards of the three league bodies in two years'
time.

"Congress affirmed that the three leagues -- the NNL, NNWL and NWFL --
will resume with the new board after Sept. 4 since they have two years
to end their tenure,'' he said.

However, while speaking, Musa Amadu, the NFA Secretary-General, who
presided over the congress, condemned the earlier congress which took
place at Chida Hotel.

He urged the new committee to abide by the rules guiding football
administration in the country.

"We have three chairmanship contestants in this house right now and
this will tell you the extent of illegality that took place the other
side.

"Mike Umeh, Amanze Uchegbulam and Taiwo Ogunjobi are the chairmanship
contestants that are here and I wonder who and who contested the
elections at Chida Hotel,'' Amadu said.

The highpoint of the meeting was the dissolution of the Aminu
Maigari-led NFA board and the appointment of an interim management
board to pilot the affairs of the football house.

The interim board members are Ephraim Chukwuemeka, the Abia FA
chairman, Abubakar Ladan, Kebbi FA chairman and Isaac Ayodele, the
Ekiti FA chairman.

NAN reports that another faction of the congress had earlier continued
on with the NFA General Assembly at Chida Hotel and conducted new
elections into the board.

The elections were supervised by the Amoni Biambo-led electoral
committee, and this was after Sports Minister Tammy Danagogo had
declared the assembly open.

He had in his address urged the congress to go on and conduct its
board elections since it was due for Aug. 26.

Chris Giwa, the proprietor of Nigeria Professional Football League
(NPFL) clubside Giwa Football Club of Jos, had emerged board chairman.

Eleven others were also elected board members at the occasion.
