Imo Police Command Launches Manhunt For Accountant's Killers

THE Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdulmajid Ali, has directed
police officers in the state to fish out the killers of a Cash Supply
Officer at the office of the Imo State Accountant General, Augustine
Nwugo.

The ugly incident, The Guardian gathered, took place shortly after
the Christmas holidays in the presence of the family members, amid
excruciating, gory and anguish situation.

Nwugo, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria
(ICAN), was reportedly shot several times at his residence in Ulakwo,
Owerri North Local Council of Imo State, but did not die immediately,
until his assailants applied club and axe on him severally,
dismembering parts of his body till he breathed his last.

Disclosing this to The Guardian yesterday, the Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Andrew Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent
of Police (DSP), said though the matter was yet to be reported at the
office of the CP, officially, he had directed the officer-in-charge of
the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB), to commence investigations
into the details of the alleged killing, hoping that the report would
be submitted as soon as it is concluded.

The PPRO promised to communicate to the media as soon as graphic
details of the incident were made known to the Command.

Sources told The Guardian that the deceased was enterprising in his
duties; hence the Accountant General of the state entrusted him with
the Cash Supply Office portfolio.

The sources who stated that the deceased had other businesses and
sources of income, further disclosed that the late accountant had just
finished building a high brow hotel in Ulakwo, which had been
scheduled for inauguration this month before his death.
