Four people have been declared dead after a suicide bomber attack at a
bus station in Potiskum in Yobe State.
According to police and hospital sources, about 48 others were also
injured in the tragic incident that happened moments ago.
"We have evacuated four dead bodies and 48 injured persons from the
scene of the suicide blast,"a police officer informed newsmen.
The bomber "blew up his car at a bus station," said the officer,
asking not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to
the media.
Alao, a nurse at the Potiskum General Hospital gave a similar death
and injury toll, and said local residents had rushed to the hospital
in search of their loved ones.
Though details of the attack are still coming in, many people believe
it was carried out by the Islamist militants' group, Boko Haram.
The group, led by Abubakar Shekau, has claimed responsibility for such
attacks in Yobe and parts of northern Nigeria.
Only last week, Shekau, in a video posted online, threatened to carry
out more terror attacks in Nigeria as part of Boko Haram's aim to turn
northern Nigeria into an Islamic caliphate.
The Boko Haram sect has claimed tens of thousands of lives across
Nigeria since it began its insurgency in 2009.
Two weeks ago, no fewer than 150 people were killed in Baga Town in
Borno state by Boko Haram insurgents.
