Second Republic President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, said he is hale and
healthy against the backdrop rumours making the rounds in the social
media that he is dead.
Shagari gave this clarification yesterday while briefing newsmen in
Sokoto. He also used the opportunity to appeal to all Nigerians to
continue to give peace a chance, especially during the forthcoming
elections.
"I thank you heartily for your visit. Let me use this opportunity to
appeal to you and through you to all Nigerians to continue to give
peace a chance, especially during this election period. Long live the
Federal Republic of Nigeria," Shagari appealed.
He enjoined the political class to unite the country in all their
deeds, while reminding politicians in the country of the need to put
Nigeria first no matter their ambition.
According to him, nobody should sponsor or perpetrate violence in the
name of politics, as it is not a do or die affair.
He emphasised that anybody who sponsored or perpetrated violence was
working against the interest of Nigerians.
"God gives power to whoever He wishes and takes leadership. Nobody
should sponsor or perpetrate violence as the country belongs to all of
us," he explained.
