Contrary to reports that over 72 people have been killed by the twin
explosion that rocked Kaduna Metropolis on Wednesday, July 23, the
Federal Government has announced that only 20 people were killed and
14 injured.
The Co-ordinator of the National Information Center, Mr. Mike Omeri,
disclosed this to journalists at a news conference in Abuja.
"20 persons were killed in the blast and fourteen people injured," he said.
He added that the bomb was said to have been concealed in a parked
vehicle about two kilometres from Murtala Square - venue of a Ramadan
lecture, where majority of the casualties were returning from.
Meanwhile, spokesperson to the Department of State Services, Ms
Marylyn Ogah has assured citizens of continued efforts by security
operatives to stop terrorism in the country.
Ms. Ogah however resorted to the use of pidgin English in an attempt
to plead with citizens to take charge of security in their
neighbourhood and provide the necessary information that could assist
the security agents to wipe out terrorism.
