2015 : We Won't Allow Zoning -Imo PDP

The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, has said it
would not zone its governorship ticket to any district , insisting
that all eligible aspirants will be given equal opportunity to contest
for the party's flag at the primaries.

PDP Sectretary, Imo State, Chief George Eguh who made the party's
position known when one of the governorship aspirants , Senator
Ifeanyi Ararume paid him a courtesy visit declared that zoning was
anti-democracy and would not be allowed in the party. He said all
contestants for the governorship and other elective positions in the
state for 2015 would "be taken to the field to test their popularity
and strength .

""When the contestants go to the field and Imo PDP members select
whoever they want to be their governorship candidate, we will now
give him both the ticket and our total support."Eguh harped on the
need for unity in Imo PDP to avoid a repetition of the ugly scenario
which made the governorship seat elude the party in 2007 when personal
interests set "some individuals who saw themselves then as demi gods"
at cross purposes.

The PDP scribe warned that if " the self-inflicted injury and crisis
of ego " currently bedeviling the party were not resolved ahead of the
poll, the party's fortunes might be endangered .

He said, "PDP is suffering from self inflicted injury and that injury
must be addressed so that the party can move forward. "Describing
Araraume as one of the PDP backbones in Imo State who had contributed
immensely towards the sustenance of the party since 2012, Eguh wished
the governorship hopeful well in his ambition.

Speaking earlier, Araraume appealed to the party's leadership to
ensure all aspirants were given level playing ground during the
party's primaries , expressing optimism that PDP stands a better
chance of reclaiming Imo State.Ararume, while addressing a mammoth
crowd of party faithful who had thronged out to receive him at the
Mater Dolorosa Field, said Imo people overwhelming voted for him in
2007 but regretted that a sitting President who was also of PDP stuck
frustrated his ambition.

He , therefore , appealed to the people to give him another
opportunity to prove his mettle.
