The Vice Chancellor of University of Benin, UNIBEN, Professor Osayuki
Oshodin, has resumed work.
The Vice-Chancellor was flown to London two months ago over ailment
allegedly connected to food poisoning.
Following his absence, some stakeholders commenced campaign for the
appointment of an acting Vice Chancellor, who will run the affairs of
the university until November when the tenure of the VC expires.
Vanguard learnt that the Vice-Chancellor's appearance at the office
yesterday shocked many, who thought he may have been incapacitated due
to the illness.
Professor Oshodin presided over the meeting of Appointment and
Promotion of Board of the University, where members of the management
staff sang and praised God for his return.
Meanwhile, members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian
Universities, SSANU; National Association of Academic Technologists,
NAAT and Non Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU, told newsmen
that the call for the Vice Chancellor's removal was selfish and driven
by greed.
They said it "smacks of mischief for anybody to claim that the absence
of the Vice Chancellor had slowed down activities within the
university."
Chairman of SSANU, Mr. John Alile, in company of acting Chairman of
NASU, Mr. Joel Idonije and NASU Chairman, Mr. Sunday Momoh, said in
the absence of Oshodin, UNIBEN completed its first semester, resumed
for second semester, mobilised students for National Youth Service
Corps, NYSC, and hosted the 11th Edition of Nigerian Universities
Staff Sports Asso-ciation games among others.
