The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has set up a
three-member fact finding mission to ascertain the veracity of the
allegation of electoral irregularities raised by the Rivers State
chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in respect of
saturday's presidential and National Assembly elections.
The Rivers' APC had petitioned the INEC headquarters, calling for the
cancellation of the outcome of the saturday's elections in the State.
The INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega acknowledged the receipt of the
petition at a press conference on Sunday in Abuja.
The three-man committee set up yesterday by INEC has the Commission's
supervisory National Commissioner for Rivers, Mrs Thelma Iremirem, as
head.
Other members of the mission, according to a statement by the
Secretary of INEC, Mrs Augusta Ogakwu are; Colonel MK Hammanga and
Professor Lai Olurode.
The fact finding mission is to ascertain the veracity of of the APC's
claims and allegations and to advice the Commission and the Chief
Electoral Commissioner/Returning Officer of the presidential election.
The members of the committee, according to the INEC statement, have
already departed for Rivers State and they are expected to submit
their report before the end of the collation of results of the other
States and the FCT.
