Certificate Scandal Rocks Imo Poly, As Rector Raises Alarm Over Insecurity

Imo State owned Polytechnic, Umuagwo has been in the news over the
past weeks following crisis ranging from certificate racketeering,
corrupt practices within the management that has been rocking the
premier institution.

Trumpeta reports that a high class-syndicate specialized in forging
the signature of the Registrar of the school Mrs Joy Njemanze has been
in operation dishing out fake certificate of the school to students.

In the same vein, some list of students who gained admission into the
school with fake OND certificates to do their HND has been made public
by the school authority.

Meanwhile some staff of the institution are said to be arrested and
interrogated by security agencies while others have been suspended in
connection with the allegations. Although some of those who claim
innocent of the accusation are threatening Court and EFCC action
against the Rector, some of the affected students and their lecturer
collaborators who issue the certificates are on each others throat
with threats and canter threats.

Investigation further revealed that the students of the school are
warming up for demonstration as most of them have not been issued with
admission letters after paying the mandatory N7,500 pre-admission and
N20,000 acceptance fees to the school management.

Worried at the level of crisis and possible break down of law and
order, the Rector Rev. Fr Wence Madu is said to now move in a Tinted
bullet proof official car even as he has mounted armed police and
orderlies at his official guest house near Concord Hotel, Owerri for
fear of repraisals.
