Imo State Polytechnic Rector Defies The gods, Rejects Invitation From Deadly Shrine

The Rector of Imo State Polytechnic (IMOPOLY), Umuagwo, Rev. Fr. Wence
Madu, has declined an invitation to appear at the dreadedOkija
Shrinein Anambra State.

Fr. Madu had in mid-May received a letter, asking him report at the
shrine after an unnamed complainant reported him to the shrine's
priests.

Speaking to the press in Owerri, Madu said he would not visit the
shrine, even though he received a letter reminding him of his pending
summons.

"As a Catholic priest, I am a priest of the highest deity. It is
absurd for me to honour an invitation from a lower deity," Fr. Madu
said.
He noted that the invitation is as a result of his action against fake
results at the institution.

"The origin of the letter is a ripple effect of what I am doing to
deal with the issue of fake results that is everywhere and to stop the
lecturers in their extortion, which has sadly become a widespread way
of life in the institution.

"The council was a bit lenient last week when they met and stepped
down some of the lecturers.

"This is why they are resorting to panic measures to intimidate the
authorities."

In the original invitation letter, signed by oneUkaegbu N. Ogidi,
Maduwas asked to either undo the alleged injustice or appear at the
shrined to prove his innocence at the risk of dying, if guilty.

"Ogwugwu kills only those whose hands are not clean, especially those
who committed evil against their fellow human beings at work places,
churches, mosques, markets and other public places," Ogidi's letter
read.

The Rector stated that those with genuine grievances should follow all
legitimate procedures.

With Madu failing to honour the invitation, there are fears that the
priests may pay him a visit as stated in the letter.

"But where you fail to come because of any reason, we shall come to
your residence or office," the letter had warned.

It will be recalled that a 2004 raid on the Okija shrine revealed
several human corpses and skeletons, leading to a nationwide outcry
and several arrests.
