Tension As Jonathan Meets Imo/Other PDP Guber Aspirants

Ahead the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primaries
nationwide, an interface meeting between the national leader of the
party, and President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan involving all the aspirants
of the PDP seeking to carry the party's governorship ticket in 2015
election is expected to hold in Abuja before the end of this week.

The meeting, according to top party sources in Owerri and Abuja, is
expected to hold in Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, where it was learnt that
crucial matters concerning how to reclaim Government House, Owerri,
will be discussed.

Trumpeta reports that the meeting became necessary in view of
discordant tunes and disagreements that have been trailing the conduct
of the ward congresses to elect the three-man ad-hoc delegates for all
party primaries except the presidency with National Delegates from
each of the 27 LGAs in the state. Apart from protest letters, some of
the aspirants for various offices, especially the governorship mounted
pressure on PDP leadership and Presidency for cancellation of the Nov
1 delegates election.

Apparently worried by the unabated war of attrition in PDP ranks, the
Presidency is said to be have stepped in to act as the "last bust
stop" for the peaceful resolution of the matter.

Though, Trumpeta has not obtained official reasons for the meeting
believed to be an internal matter of the party, but grapevine sources
indicate that President Jonathan may have been disturbed by
developments in Imo PDP to intervene. This newspaper further gathered
that apart from instituting peaceful initiatives to guarantee harmony,
a guarantee that losers in the governorship primaries will be properly
accommodated in the scheme of things at both national and state levels
may be considered.

The highlight of the meeting, Trumpeta was told may also centre on
each of the aspirant signing an undertaking to not only accept the
result of the primaries but also work for the restoration of the PDP
in the Government House of the state.

According to the sources, the meeting to be graced by PDP national
officers will also act as a face-mending forum to avoid sabotage and
implosion ahead 2015 election.

No party official at the state level was willing to speak on the
matter except one who pleaded anonymity. According to the stakeholder
who spoke with our correspondent at the party secretariat yesterday
"yes, we have heard about the meeting but full details have not been
made public yet. But you know that there is little disagreement that
could be the reason why the President is asking them to come for a
meeting", he added.
