Operatives of the Special Task Force have rescued Pa Dariye Defwan,
the father of former governor of Plateau state, Chief Joshua Dariye.
The police confirmed his release on Friday in Jos.
According to the police spokesperson in Plateau State, Abuh Emmanuel,
four persons were arrested in connection with the abduction.
The former Plateau state governor's father was kidnapped last Saturday
night at his village in Mushere, Bokkos Local Government Area of
Plateau state. Police had said the victim was abducted by nine
suspects.
Mr. Abuh said Mr. Dariye's dad has been reunited with his family.
"Police has formally handed over the man to his son, Sen. Joshua
Dariye, here in Jos," he said. "As I speak with you he is at the
Dariye residence in Jos."
Asked if ransom was paid before the freedom of Mr. Dariye's father,
the police officer said he was not aware of one.
"I believe his release was due to frantic efforts by the police and
concerned members of the public," he said.
The abductors allegedly demanded a ransom of $10 million through a
letter to the family.
