NLC Election Ends In Stalemate In Abuja

The Nigeria Labour Congress election, which began smoothly in the
early hours ofThursdayin Abuja, the nation's capital, has been
stalemated.

The whole process of the election has been suspended following some
alleged irregularities that were uncovered.

The leadership of the NLC and the delegates are currently locked in a
meeting with a view to seeing how the election crisis could be
resolved.

The meeting is holding at the Labour House in the Central area of Abuja.

Two candidates are vying for the Presidency of the NLC, after the
President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association
stepped down.

The two candidates left in the race are Comrades Ayuba Waba and Ejiro Joseph.

Waba is the outgoing National Treasurer of the NLC as well as
President of the Health Workers Union of Nigeria, while Joseph is of
the Textile Union.

The PENGASSAN president had earlier withdrawn from the race for Waba,
shortly before the commencement of voting.

However, problem, it was gathered, began to brew when some
irregularities were noticed by some delegates who are sympathetic to
the aspiration of Joseph.

These irregularities, it was leant, later led to the election being stalemated.

The emergency meeting of the NLC leadership and the delegates is
ongoing as at the time of this report.
