FIFA Approves Four Candidates For Presidential Election

The FIFA presidential election will be contested by four candidates
after their election oversight panel validated the quartet.

Sepp Blatter, who is looking to secure a fifth term in the role, will
therefore be challenged byMichael van Praagof the Netherlands, former
Portugal playerLuis Figoand FIFA Vice-PresidentPrince Ali bin
al-Husseinof Jordan.

The election will take place on May 29, where FIFA's 209 member
federations will vote at their congress in Zurich.

The oversight panel scrutinized the candidates' nomination papers and
received integrity checks conducted by the FIFA ethics committee.

Former Tottenham and Newcastle winger David Ginola had initially
intended to stand before he dropped out of the running, as did former
FIFA official Jerome Champagne.

Player agent Mino Raiola also considered standing before deciding to
throw his support behind Van Praag.
