Petrol Tanker Explosion Kills 69 In Onitsha

An explosion resulting from a tanker accident in Onitsha, Anambra
State, South-east Nigeria , has left 69 persons burnt to death.

The tanker loaded with petrol, was said to have lost control and ran
into Asaba Motor Park at upper Iweka, in Onitsha before exploding.

The 40-foot tanker according to an eyewitness, was descending from the
Army Barracks area in the Onitsha-Enugu expressway when the accident
occurred.

According to report, the tanker and 11 other vehicles mostly
commercial buses and two motorcycles inside the Asaba Park were burnt
beyond repair.

Governor Willie Obiano is said to have visited the scene of the
accident and was reported to have wept uncontrollably on seeing the
number of casualties.

The governor then urged the families of the victims to take heart.
