At least 30 dead in Gaza from Israeli shelling after ceasefire collapses - Palestinian medical sources

Israel says it is resuming operations in Gaza after a planned 72-hour
ceasefire collapses.

The truce crumbled two hours after coming into effect at 05:00 GMT
after Gaza militants attacked Israel.

Some 1,460 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have died in the conflict,
health officials say. Sixty-three Israelis, mostly soldiers, have
died.

Peace talks in Cairo aimed at securing a more permanent ceasefire were
due to be held - they have now been shelved.

The current conflict is already the longest between Israel and the
Hamas militants in Gaza.

However, Israeli ministry of foreign affairs spokesman tells the BBC
that the talks in Cairo will still go ahead.
