Gunmen kill police sergeant in Benue

Benue State Police Command has launched a manhunt for gunmen, who
killed a policeman, Sergeant Bawa Ekoja, attached to 'Operation
Dzenda' in Makurdi, the state capital.

The command's image-maker, Daniel Ezeala (SP), in a telephone chat
with Daily Sun, said Ekoja was going back home after closing from
night duty at a hotel located in Ankpa Quarters, Makurdi, when the
assailants in an ash Toyota Camry car shot him in his back.

Ezeala, explained that the deceased policeman was on his motorcycle
when the gunmen shot him and he died immediately, adding that his
corpse had been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre
(FMC), Makurdi.

He vowed that the command would not rest on its oars until the
criminals were apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law.

Although, it was not clear at the time of filing the report why the
gunmen were after Ekoja, it would be recalled that the state Governor,
Dr. Gabriel Suswam, had last week, raised the alarm over the spate of
insecurity in the state.

Checks by Daily Sun also revealed that cultists' activities had
continued to be on the rise in the state in recent times, with no
fewer than five persons already killed in the last one month in
cult-related circumstances.
