Capt. Ihenachos Kinsmen Sue Inec For Non Provision Of PVC

The people of Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State have
sued the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to be allowed to use
Temporary Voters Card during the oncoming general elections for the
commission's inability to provide Permanent Voters Card (PVC) for the
people of the area.

In a suit filed on behalf of the area by Barr. Chinedu Nmezu and
another in the Federal High Court Owerri, the people of the area among
other things alleged that it would amount to breach of the fundamental
rights of the people of the area for the commission to insist on the
use of the PVC for the elections when it was obvious that the none
provision of the PVC was the commission's fault.

In his reaction, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate
who is also from the area Capt Emmanuel Ihenacho, lamented that it was
an irony that he does not have the PVC even when the elections were
around the corner.

Capt Ihenacho who spoke through his media aide Barr. Emperor Iwuala
said that it would have been a big embarrassment if the election had
held as earlier scheduled.

'Owerri North is a highly populated area with very high number of
concentration of voters. But as I am talking, our principal does not
have his own PVC and so to majority of voters in Owerri North.
Therefore, it is very embarrassing and also worrisome that INEC cannot
provide the area with the PVC four years after voters' registration
was concluded. Our principal has approached the commission severally
but the commission has kept on procrastinating. Hence, because of the
series of procrastination that never brought any result from the
commission, we are now bound to suspect foul play and sabotage. This
is because our principal is from Owerri North and the area is one of
his strong holds. Therefore, it is a puzzle that of all areas, it is
only Capt Ihenacho's L.G.A. that has no PVC up to this moment. It
would have been a disaster if elections held as earlier slated.
Therefore the suit is in order and is highly commendable. If the
commission cannot provide the PVC, why make its use compulsory during
the elections....' Barr. Iwuala queried.
