IPMAN Shuts Down Filling Stations In Imo

The Independent Petroleum Marketer Association of Nigeria Imo State
chapter yesterday shut down all the filling stations in Owerri, the
state capital and environs.

The marketers are protesting constant harassment by officials of the
Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) for selling above the approved
price of N87 per a liter. According to them, they bought fuel
(petroleum) from Aba and Calabar deports at the cost of N90 per s
liter.

The Spokesman of the IPMAN Mr. Christopher Amadi, accused the DPR
officials of shuttling down any filling station that sold fuel above
N87 and arbitrarily shut down the affected filling station and urged
them to pay the sum of N100,000 as penalty.

He therefore charged the DPR to regulate the price of petroleum
products from Aba and Calabar deports respectively, even as they
pleaded with the federal government to intervene on the matter.

Following the sudden closure of filling stations by IPMAN, commuters
particularly workers and students trekked to their different
destinations. Some of the commuters who spoke to our correspondent
condemned the action of the IPMAN for embarking on such drastic
measure without notice. Daily Times gathered that the protest may last
for three days.
