Election Petitions Tribunal: Politicians File 37 Cases At Owerri

No fewer than 37 cases arising from the national and state assembly
polls have been filed before the Election Petitions Tribunal sitting
in Owerri.

Vanguard reports that at press time, about eight petitions for the
senatorial elections, 18 cases for the House of Representatives and 11
for the State Assembly election had been filed for adjudication.

Available information showed that the All Progressives Congress, APC,
which lost all the three senatorial seats to the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP, is expectedly the major challenger of the victorious PDP
candidates.

For Imo West senatorial zone, where Senator Hope Uzodinma smiled home
with the coveted senatorial seat, Chief Osita Izunasor of the APC,
ThankGod Ezeani of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and
Chief Felix Idiga of Accord Party, are all in court against Uzodinma.

In Okigwe senatorial zone, Dr. Clement Owunna of APGA and his APC
counterpart, Mr. Benjamin Uwajumogu, are contesting the victory of
Chief Athan Achonu of the PDP.

The story is the same in Owerri senatorial zone where Chief Uche
Onyeagucha of the APC and APGA's Mr. Paschal Nneji are up in battle
against the senator-elect, Chief Sam Anyanwu, of the PDP.

Meanwhile, at the maiden sitting of the tribunal, two of the five
motions presented before the judges were fully heard, while three were
adjourned till May 13.

Other members of the eledtion tribun al, headed by Hon. Justice A. Y.
Sanya, include Hon. Justice S. O. Falola and Hon. Justice P. P.
Idiong.
