Tinted glass controversy

In the last two weeks, it has been tough driving along Mile 12 –
Ikorodu Road and within Agric and Ikorodu town. The policemen are
demanding permit for the use of vehicles with factory-fitted tinted
side glass. It is so bad that a regular user of that road can be
stopped three to four times a day!

I had been delayed for this same offence at Ibadan a couple of times
too. The claim, according to the police in this area, is that the
Inspector-General of Police's order is that those who tinted the glass
of their vehicles locally should remove it while those using
factory-fitted vehicles must obtain permit said to be obtainable only
at Lion Building, Obalende at a whopping cost of N15,000! My appeal is
that there should be an urgent clarification as to whether
factory-fitted owners must get permit, if Obalende is the only place
the permit is obtainable and if the permit is truly approved for
N15,000! I will beg for leniency to drastically reduce the cost of the
permit as no offence was intended by the purchasers of "Tokunbo"
vehicles with factory-fitted tinted side glass.
