Flood submerges schools, communities in Imo

Schools and communities in Imo State have been submerged by flood
following what some respondents termed as three days of torrential
rain in their areas.

Commuters now pass through the stretch between Akabo andUzoagba to Owu
Amakohia, all in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state, with
extreme difficulty as flood has taken over the road.

The story is not different for people living in Oforola, Owerri West
Local Government Area, as residents toldVanguardthat they were tired
of complaining to people who are not interested in their plight.

"The road from Avu to Oforola is ordinarily bad, even during the dry
season. The matter worsened with the advent of the rain. Honestly, we
are tired of complaining to people, who are definitely not interested
in ameliorating our sorry situation," a passenger, who simply
identified herself as Augustina, said.

Vanguardnoticed that the driver of a fully loaded commuter bus was
forced to offload its passengers at a muddy spot to scale through the
deep, muddy hurdle.

The pupils and teachers of Orji Town Primary School in Owerri North
Local Government Area toldVanguardthat they have been praying for
God's intervention over their predicament.

Little Onyinyechi said she has been praying for the long vacation to
come, so that they will escape from the flood that took over their
school compound.
