The Police detectives attached to the Agbara Division of the Ogun
State Police Command on August 12, arrested four suspected cultists at
Igbesa Agbara in Ado Odo Otta Local Government Area of the state, over
the death of their colleague.
This is contained in a statement by the state's Police Public
Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi.
He said, the rival cult groups in the area had engaged themselves in a
battle leaving one Adeyemi Yomi, 22, student of the Gateway
Polytechnic Igbesa dead on August 11, at about 6.30pm.
The police placed a manhunt on the suspected cult members before one
Ologunlagba Timilehin, 21, a confessed member of Airlord confraternity
was arrested by the police.
The arrested cultist, Timilehin, had engaged the Doro confraternity in
a gun battle for some hours before they were checkmated by the police.
The arrest of the suspect has led to the arrest of additional three
members of these groups who are helping the police in its
investigation.
He said, "Those additional suspects arrested include Anifowose
Adewumi, 21, Ekundayo Oladapo, 30, and Aina Owolabi. Efforts are still
in top gear to get other fleeing members of these cult groups
apprehended."
According to the statement, the Ogun State Police Command had, before
now, declared a war on cult groups in Ogun State and arrested more
than 200 cultists belonging to various groups in major cities in the
state including Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, Ibafo, Otta.
The state's Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, has ordered the
Divisional Police Officer in charge of Agbara Division to transfer the
matter to the Department of Criminal Investigation Eleweran, Abeokuta,
for thorough investigation.
He said, "We shall continue the fight against these cultists who
create brouhaha in the state and make innocent people of the state
uncomfortable."
