150 Cases Of Ebola Detected After Sierra Leones's Lockdown

International experts had warned there might not be enough beds for
new patients found during the lockdown that took place in Sierra Leone
from Friday through to Sunday and this rings true as 150 new cases of
Ebola have been detected.

Steven Gaojia, head of the country's emergency operation centre, said yesterday,

"We have an overflow of bodies which we still need to bury but this
has been an everyday occurrence since the Ebola outbreak . . . Now, at
least, we have about 150 new cases,"

The country's chief medical officer earlier said up to 70 bodies had
been uncovered, but these were in and around the capital, and results
for the whole country are likely to push up the figures significantly.

Karamoh Kabba, the Deputy Minister for Political and Public Affairs
reports that about 70 more suspected cases are still being tested.

However, an official alleges that authorities consider repeating the
unprecedented exercise as Health Minister Abubakarr Fofanah claims
volunteers had managed to reach around 80pc of homes and he deemed the
action and outcome a success.
