Suleiman Abu Ghaith, a son-in-law of Osama bin Laden, was sentenced to
life in prison on Tuesday in New York following his conviction on
terrorism charges.

A Manhattan federal jury in March found the Kuwaiti-born 48-year-old
guilty of conspiring to kill Americans, conspiring to provide material
support for terrorists and providing such support.

US District Judge Lewis Kaplan, addressing Abu Ghaith, said it was his
"assessment that you are committed to doing everything you can to
carry out al Qaeda's agenda to kill Americans."

Abu Ghaith, who was arrested in Turkey, is one of the highest-ranking
al Qaeda figures to be brought to the United States to face a civilian
trial. Evidence against him included videos and audio recordings,
prosecutors said.

Abu Ghaith appeared in videos representing al Qaeda after the Sept.
11, 2001 attacks.
