Imo Workers Mobilieze Against Sale of State Secretariat, As Labour Meets

Apparently disturbed by unconfirmed reports that the Imo state
government is planning to sale the state secretariat to private
operators, workers union in the state is mobilizing for a showdown
against the action.

Trumpeta learnt that the Joint Negotiating Council, JNC of the labour
union in the state will be meeting with workers to brain storm on
several issues.

Latest report has it that all the existing ministries in the old Port
Harcourt Road secretariat complex will be relocated to allow the
suspected investors take over.

The JNC will be meeting to among other things also highlight the non
implementation of new pay roll to reflect recent promotion extended to
the workers in the state. Apart from non implementation of 2013 and
2014 promotion, it was learnt that staff in some government parasatals
are still receiving salary with old rate.

Government organization like IWADA and Water Corporation are worse
hit, where several backlogs of salaries are owed them.

Other matters the labour union may also consider is the problem in Imo
State House of Assembly where the workers are yet to gain from the
promised Overtime Allowance due to workers in the state. While other
departments, ministries and government agencies enjoy the Overtime
Allowance Imo State House of Assembly staffers are starved of the
payment.
