Okorocha Bans Fee Payments In IMSU

The incoming students of the Imo State University on Tuesday September
22 got a cheering news ahead of their admission registration when His
Excellency the Executive Governor of the state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha
banned the collection of N50,000 acceptance fee from it's new
students.

Gov Okorocha who made the declaration during the commissioning of the
institutions N150 million ultra modern recreation park re-iterated the
desire of his government to make education totally but informed that
only students who's accumulated General Point (GP) is above 1.5 at the
end of every session can access the free education.

The Grand Commander for Free Education among other promises ordered
the institution vice Chancellor Prof Ukachukwu Awuzie to ensure that
all students who's GP is below 1.5 be forwarded to him so they can
answer why the State should be wasting money on them.

He also ordered that hence forth, sales of textbooks, handouts and
other fees be stopped instructing that every approved book for each
department be sold in the school bookshop as any student caught
selling textbooks or handouts for lecturers will be expelled from the
school.

He however condemned the act of indecent dressing by the students
advising them to shun cultism and other social vices in the to answer
true son's and daughters of Okorocha.

In a related development and still on a celebrating mood, the school
also on Tuesday witnessed the commissioning and formal opening of the
N150 million recreation Park built by Chief Peter Sunday Owunna
memorial foundation.

In his address during the occasion which took place at the convocation
arena of the institution, Chief Owunna who is the Pro Chancellor of
IMSU stated that when he was called to serve in this capacity he did
so in other serve and truly serve informing that he became a "Chief
Begger: unashamedly at his own expense to attract projects to the
school community including the recreation centre that accommodates a
fast food, Business Centre, shops and other ancillary spaces to
argument the facility.

Earlier on, the vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Awuzie and
the chairman of the occasion His Lordship Most Rev Dr G.O Ochiagha
(Emeritus Catholic Bishop of Orlu Diocese) admonished the Owunna for
his selfless sacrifice and likened him to the Saint who used his
resources to build infrastructures that impacted positively to the
life of Romans while thanking the Gov for making a wonderful choice in
the person of Owunna as IMSU's Pro Chancellor.

The Gov who was the Special Guest of honour personally thanked Chief
Owunna who also is an aspirant for the Senatorial Seat of Imo North
(Okigwe zone) under APC for being Rescue Mission compliant.
