Exercising is important for everyone at the workplace. To work some
exercises into your business activities:
Walk to the mall
Take a quick walk to the shopping mall close to your office instead of driving.
Take the staircase
Use the staircase instead of lifts.
Pick your trash
Pick up the trash and walk the extra distance to dispose of it.
Walk, don't drive to the office
Leave a bit earlier and walk to the office instead of driving. If you
live too far away for this to be a possibility, park at the farthest
end of the parking lot and walk the short distance to and from your
office. Brisk walking is a great way to get your heart rate up and
burn calories.
Go for lunch at a distance
Walk to a farther location for lunch.
Walk around while on phone
Do phone calls while walking around your office. Stand rather than sit
to take phone calls.
Visit office gym
If you have time, visit your office gym. Take a few minutes to stretch
and lift some light weights. Be sure to have an extra set of workout
clothes to change into.
Simple desk exercises
Hand stretches: Stretch your arm out in front of you, pointing your
fingers to the ground. Use your other hand to deepen the stretch, then
point your fingers toward the ceiling and deepen the stretch again.
Switch hands and repeat on the other side.
Make use of office space
Do not forget to take advantage of the office space. Rather than
sending an email to your colleague who works in the same building
(especially if they are on the same floor) take a few moments to walk
over to that their desk and pass along the message personally.
Invest in exercise ball chair
In order to continue working normally and still get in a little
exercise, purchase an exercise ball chair. This allows you to work on
posture, core, and balance while still sitting at your desk.
Shoulder shrugs: Help keep your neck and shoulders loose by doing
simple shoulder shrugs, up and down, to release tension and stretch
your muscles.
Arm circles:Start with small arm circles, fists closed and arms in
front of you. Gradually make larger and larger circles as you move
your arms out toward your sides.
Leg stretches:Loosen tight leg muscles by stretching your legs out and
pointing your toes up and down. Repeat for both legs.
Get good pair of sneakers
The dress code notwithstanding, there are moments your feet still need
a breather from regular shoes.
*.There are sneakers specifically made for each purpose of human activity.
Is it for aerobics or other gym-related fitness activities-jogging,
walking or running? Most people feel quite comfortable in sneakers
especially during after-office activities.
*.Don't be lured by the latest design or style. Find out if it
conforms to your own taste and style too. Emphasise on shoes that are
good for your feet.
*.Ensure fit and comfort while looking out for a pair of sneakers. If
comfort is what you are looking out for, then try out some specialised
sneakers.
*.When buying sneakers, take into serious consideration, the colour.
You don't put on a neon coloured pair of sneakers to your workplace
when activities there don't demand such. Reserve the dressy and
colourful ones, if you must do them, for the appropriate occasions and
venue.
