Anambra winning war against crime - Attorney-General

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Anambra, Mr.
Anali Chude, has said that the state government is winning the war
against crime, especially in Onitsha, its commercial nerve centre.

Chude told the News Agency of Nigeria in Awka on Monday that the state
was no longer safe for the criminals.

He commended Governor Willie Obiano for making security a top priority
since he assumed office in March.

He said the security situation had improved, particularly at the
popular Upper Iweka axis in Onithsa, which was notorious for crimes.

"Any regular visitor to the state can testify to this. Onitsha used to
be a heaven for crime but today the story is different. The governor
has worked hard to clean up the city from the Bridge Head through
Upper Iweka to the Zik's Mausoleum.

"The governor has also cleared other such flash points, making it
impossible for the criminals to operate,'' he said.

Chude said the security network of the combined forces of the police,
army, civil defence and other security agencies in the state had done
well to ensure peace in the state.

He commended the forces for standing by the government in the war against crime.

He said the communication network for the forces in Awka, Onitsha,
Nnewi, Aguleri and other communities had been improved to for
intelligence gathering.

The attorney-general said that some high profile armed robbers and
kidnappers were arrested within one month of the improved
communication network.

Chude said the arrested persons included the suspected kidnappers of
the father of Super Eagles star, Mikel Obi.

"The security has greatly improved and I pray for more communication
facilities from the governor to sustain the war," he said.

He said the ministry of justice was working hard to strengthen the
legal system in the state to boost the governor's effort in the war
against crime.
