Intending Pilgrim Slumps, Dies In Ogun

Tragedy struck in Abeokuta on Thursday when an intending aged
Muslim woman identified as Oladokun Silifat Ajinni slumped and died
during the seminar organised by the Ogun State

Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board to sensitise the intending pilgrims on
issues concerning the 2014 Hajj exercise.

The seminar which was held at the Secretariat Mosque, Oke-Ilewo
area, Abeokuta was the last in the series of programmes held to
prepare the intending pilgrims from the state towards a hitch-free
2014 hajj.

Saturday Vanguard gathered that the deceased had been diagnosed of
high blood pressure during the medical screening held in August and
had been advised to seek medical attention.

Meanwhile,no fewer than 2,200 pregnant women and nursing mothers in
Olose community in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State benefitted
from the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P
maternal and child health programme.

The Chairperson of the Board of Directors of National Ear Care Centre,
Kaduna, Dr Abisola Sodipo-Clark who disclosed this yesterday, said.

The initiative was part of President Goodluck Jonathan
administration's effort to reduce maternal mortality in the country.

Sodipo-Clark said , "Let me therefore enjoin the beneficiaries to
ensure that whatever amount of money is given out to them here is
expended on their individual antenatal and postnatal care.

"Please and for the sake of your baby and your own health and well
being, avoid a situation where you treat the CCT payout as your own
share of the 'national cake' which you can expend on 'aso ebi' uniform
for the next social ceremony or party you plan to attend.

"The Federal Government should be commended for this magnanimity
towards the pregnant women and nursing mothers. So, you should
reciprocate this good gesture by ensuring that they spend the money on
what it is meant for and wisely,too."

She promised to facilitate the the establishment of zonal Ear Care
Centre in the South West with Ogun State been the headquarter.

She also advocated for the support of the people of the state to
return President Jonathan in office in the 2015 elections to reap more
dividends of democracy.

Sources at the event claimed that she was looking restless, as she was
breathing and panting heavily.

The deceased who was accompanied by her son that Brough food for her
which she ate before she slumped .

She was later died on the way while she was being rushed to the hospital.

The head of the board's medical team, Dr. Nasirudeen Bello, who
confirmed the incident described it as "unfortunate."

However, the chairman of the state Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Dr.
Isiaq Yusuf, charged other intending pilgrims to abhor all acts that
could tarnish the image of the state and the country while in Saudi
Arabia.
