Panic Over Assassination Of Magistrate In Enugu

Panic has gripped residents of Enugu over the assassination of a Chief
Magistrate, Mr. O. J. Nwani.
It was gathered that the judicial officer, who was serving in the
Enugu South Magisterial Division, was killed by yet-to-be-identified
assailants.

It was learnt that the magistrate was murdered after he received a
telephone call from an undisclosed person, urging him to come outside
his house for an unspecified reason.

PUNCH correspondent was informed that the assailants did not collect
money or any other item from the chief magistrate.

The magistrate was reportedly rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where
he was certified dead.

The Enugu State Police Command, which confirmed the development, has
assured that it would get to the root of the matter and apprehend the
perpetrators of the crime.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebere Amaraizu, said the
police had commenced full scale investigation into the murder.

He said, "Magistrate Nwani was killed by yet-to-be-known gunmen on September 1.

"The command has commenced a full scale investigation with a view to
unmasking the perpetrators of the crime as well as the motive."
